Hehehe. You know I saw that and though it's not EXACTLY something to be laughing at, I could not help it. The helicopter got his arm, then he chickened out at the top of the elevator and went to the bay and it still got him. ...Sorry.

I only watch "ER" 'cause I'm forced to, and it really just made me think how ridiculous this show is.

On the show. Believe me, I wouldn't be cheering for the death of a real person, but the writers made Romano so unlikeable that it was a mercy killing.
Not to mention a relief to the rest of the staff.
But someone should tell that poor guy waiting for him to come back. He kept sitting at the nurse's station the whole time, "Romano told me to wait here." I guess nobody knew Romano was under a flaming helicopter.
Okay. End of jokes. It really isn't funny, but nothing they could do could humanize this guy, so in my opinion, they had no choice.

cheering?!?!

man, i loved romano!! embittered short people are the greatest things on the planet!!

he was my favorite character on the show! he was so fuckin funny, always diggin on people and delivering insults. he had some of tv's greatest one-liners.

"you couldn't see the ruptured spleen in this xray?? my gardener could have, and his head was run over by an ice cream truck!"

that guy fuckin ruled.

i can't believe they (potentially*) killed him off!!!

*note: as with comics, you should always hold true to the rule that "no body = no death"

how they'd explain how he survived, i have no frickin clue. maybe it was a dream sequence (he did just take a joint away from the med student ... maybe he was high?)

I laughed when it happened. I agree though with what NurikoK98 said about what they did to his charecter recently. Makes you wonder who's idea it was to do that. I coudln't help but think/wonder if the actor was getting tired of what became of his character after he lost his arm. Although I gotta say, that plot line gave us some great lines by the other guys. [wink] Course I can't think of any off hand, but then again, I'm debating on wether or not I should give into this cold and call it an early night, or push it and stay up late.

I gave up on this show last year. But Romano was the only saving grace on the show before then.

This show has been on an ever accerating downward slide since Carter's first drug addiction.

This show is currently no less a soap opera than Knott's Landing was.

Normally, I don't watch this show, but I was intrigued by the clips of the helicopter crash. The irony of Romano's death is unmistakable, yet like Rob says, no body, no death. For all we know, he's off in the alley trying to clean up the shit he deposited in his scrubs...

As someone who has been to the ER too many times in my short life, I would agree. But, I was told by a doctor who has worked in a county ER that this is actually close to how they are.

Now, that said, this is a drama, so yeah, everything gets blown way out of proportion.

G-man,

I gave up on ER a long time ago, but I still watched it b/c there was nothing else on. I think this season, after a slow start, has been the best in years. In fact, I think they finally got back to focusing on the show as a whole, instead of boring us with one character, for example, oh I don't know, uh, Carter.

That's what killed this show. When Clooney left, they started focusing on just two or three people, and they got away from the cast as a whole, and the main star, the ER.

Now, I thought that with Carter away, the show would suck, but, they have found a way to maximize each character's strengths in each eppisode. I know they will screw this up when they start writing Carter back in, but, I hope they don't.

There is so much going on with each character right now, and it wouldn't be right to let one character dominate screen time. Ever again.

As for Romano, they really messed up with him. He was the guy everyone loved to hate. It was fun. He was the ultimate arrogant ass. But, he was such a good doctor that he could afford to be. So, what did they so? The chopped his arm off. They thought that would create an interesting dynamic to his character. Unfortunately, what they really did was murder him, and then they forced us to watch a corpse until now.

You don't do what they did to one of the greatest antagonists I have ever seen.

And, while they kept their mouths shut about who was going to die (unless they play by comic book rules), unlike when they killed off Lucy (that could have been one of the show's greatest moments, they really blew it by announcing that she was leaving), as the eppisode went on, I kind of guessed that the helicopter would fall on him.

The irony.

Whether or not ER has improved (a point I am not willing to concede), I have started watching "Without a Trace" on CBS Thurs at 10 pm and enjoy it immensely. So the gang at the ER will just have to get along without me.

'ER' Flirts with Thandie Newton
(Tuesday, November 18 12:00 PM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - NBC is hyping the big helicopter crash in Thursday's (Nov. 20) "ER," but the episode will also mark the return of one of its stars and the debut of a new character.
Thandie Newton ("Mission: Impossible 2," "Flirting") will join the cast in a recurring role as Makemba "Kem" Likasu, an administrator in the Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry who works with Carter (Noah Wyle) and falls in love with him. Wyle is returning to the show after some time off with his family.

Kem will also accompany Carter back to Chicago when he returns to County General.

"I've been a fan of Thandie Newton's work for many years," says "ER" executive producer John Wells, who wrote Thursday's episode. "She's a remarkable young talent, and we're delighted she agreed to join us for several episodes."
Newton's role on "ER" will mark her first appearance on a U.S. series. Her only previous TV work had been on a couple of movies in England, where she grew up after being born in Zambia.

Her other credits include "The Truth about Charlie," "Beloved" and "Jefferson in Paris."

Trust me,Rob,when Romano shuffled off his mortal coil the only thing ER lost was a millstone around its neck. His one-liners were about as funny as Franz Kafka.
