so, with these new boards finally coming to fruitionityness, i'd really like to clamp down on the amount of moderators per forum, to keep things neater and tidier (and better for the new control panel coding).

so, what're the odds of limiting the number from 6 to, say, 2?

discuss

I don't think the number needs changing. The number of moderators represents a good cross-section of established writers on the boards. 'Course, I'm hardly a veteran round here, so I'm willing to hear the counter-argument

I never really understood the need for 6 moderators.

Keep one from the JLR group and one from Vanguard, I'd say.

I fully agree. Let TTT be the Vanguard one and I don't really know any JLR members...?

Thanks. As for one from the JLR, Wednesday would be a good choice.

Give it to Cowgirl. She posts in both Vanguard stories and the JLI. Then give Stupid Dogg a modship for the indie stuff since he's been the biggest contributor of that material.

ideally, methinks it should be ttt, cj, stupid dogg, and myself, but rob is aiming for a smaller number.

6 moderators is ridiculous and always has been. I quit being a mod for that very reason. It's not a status symbol and it's not a position of leadership, I don't see why people get so chuffed about being a mod. Make it two and be done with it.

IF, and I say if because in the end, I really don't care, it should be two mods, one from Vanguard and one from JLR. Then I'm afraid that CJ isn't viable anymore, because she has long since stopped posting for the JLR!

That is, she's not an option for who should represent JLR, that is. Obviously she could be a mod for Vanguard.

To be quite honest, how about choosing mods who will actually do something for the forum? TTT and Grimm have done a shitload to help new people come in find stories or know what's going on with either group. They've also cleaned up the forum after spammers and trouble makers. That's what a mod should be for, which is something that helps everyone despite what they're writing here. I understand wanting a mod from each group, but I think this is a better use of the powers.

I agree. All we really need mods for is to keep spammers away, headline hot or ongoing threads, unheadline dead threads, and basically just keep this board functioning properly. Representation is not an issue.

go.

thats more or less the point.

mods will now have actual power (mwahahahha) and abilities, so its beyond the paper status of the now-distant rkmbs v7. stickying threads, moving things around, removing off topicness, etc.

thus, the two selected should be people that are (1) always here and (2) don't mind doing the extra work that the forum wants of them.

which has largely been TTT and myself so far.

But I don't mind a representative moderatorship.

Wednesday, for instance, is always around and always pushing JLR posters to keep their stories and group alive. I see that as an example of good moderating as well.

And also, you're going to have times when mods are not able to post/get to the boards for whatever reasons. So an extra or two is not a bad thing.

Personally, I wouldn't mind something along these lines:

TTT-Vanguard Main/old school MBL

Grimm-Vanguard Europe

Wednesday-JLR

Stupid Dogg-Indies/Toughened Glass

Just one thing. I think that, at the moment, Britannica is a moderator, as well as being the current leader of the JLR. At the moment, though, he's been very ill, and before that he was getting married, so his appearances on the board have been sporadic for a while. However he has done a great job o keeping people involved, and I think it's only fair that somebody fights his corner. After all, without him I wouldn't be on these boards

Okay then, how about we have both moderators be from the JLR?

I didn't think so.

The fact is that the JLR, Vanguard, and Vanguard Europe work separately. Most people in one group don't even know what's going on in the others, and that's especially true between the JLR and Vanguard grouping.

There are certain things that the JLR does as a group that we should have our own moderator for. So far we've run two polls, one for our annual awards and one for leadership, and we have another coming very soon. We sticky our current stories, unsticky the old, and do whatever's needed to keep the mess we make to a minimum. We use our limited moderator powers, and I wouldn't really want to count on someone outside the group to do our work for us any more than you would want to count on us.

Also, as someone said, Britannica has done a great job of bringing in new people when needed. We've also worked to keep our stories going whenever things got slow. It's not like we're standing around doing nothing. The JLR and Writer's Block is something we both care a lot about (countless hours have been spent discussing these stories on IM, trust me), and others in our group have proven that they feel the same way.

Gosh, I'm long-winded .

Stupid Dog is in the Toughened Glass?

About the moderators, I suggest TTT and Stupid Dog. TTT for both Vanguard and JLR, and Stupid Dog for JLR and indies writings.
They both represents writing activity beyond the boundaries of the two main universes.

Not that I know. He has not posted in the thread, nor has expressed interest into join. Sadly, because people like him or you would be great to have in the story.

alright, well... seems to be, via majority rule, we'd go grimm and ttt. hows about we start with that now, and see how it goes. if changes are needed, we'll address as such.

and how, says i. award me a kampy!

Yeah, that seems like the best system, though I do think it should be regularly reviewed to ensure that we're not cutting anyone a raw deal
