(ocean's eleven discussed at this link)
Ocean's Twelve
It's been three years since Danny Ocean (Clooney) and his crew - fronted by detail man Rusty Ryan (Pitt), up-and-coming pickpocket Linus Caldwell (Damon), explosives expert Basher Tarr (Cheadle) and safecracker Frank Catton (Mac) - pulled off one of the most audacious and lucrative heists in history, robbing ruthless entrepreneur Terry Benedict (Garcia) of every dime stored in his impenetrable Las Vegas vault. After splitting the $160 million take, each of the infamous Ocean's crew have tried to go straight, lay low and live a legit life... but that's proven to be a challenge, much to the chagrin of Danny's wife Tess (Roberts). When someone breaks Rule Number One and rats them out to Benedict, going straight is no longer an option. He wants his $160 million back - with interest - or else. And, as the gang quickly discovers, Benedict isn't the only powerful person in the world looking for Ocean's Eleven.

(partial spoilers below)
saw the movie last night.
prefacing this by the fact that i absolutely loved the first adventure, and grew to regard it as one of my favorite all time movies...
twelve is not the new eleven, as promised.
in fact, twelve is much more like deleted scenes from eleven, and those deleted for a good reason. yes, its all the great stars and all the great banter and the slick moves and cool music and hip shots and all that jazz. yes, there's memorable one-liners and set ups and fantastic interactions. but thats it.
the overall plot is somewhat weak and somewhat lost. the "oh thats how" moments are entirely missing. the resolved moments can be seen miles away, thanks to their cliched baggage.
i wasn't expecting all that much, because i knew it could never live up to the original. however, i was hoping beyond hope i'd be blown away again by something i could never have guessed.
i was not.

it's very difficult to make a sequel that blows people away, especially when the first is written without sequels in mind.
i'll probably see it next weekend pending more reviews on this thread.

I'd like to see it, but if it's as predictable as you say, Rob, then I may wait until it hits the cheap-o theaters. Or until someone else pays for my ticket.

i don't want to sound too negative. its still fun and enjoyable, especially if you're a fan of the first.
the problem being, like i said, its really like a supplement to the first movie, rather than a compliment. like "ocean's eleven and a half." its all the music and dialog and plots you want, but i don't feel it was enough to hold its own and, rather, would have been a great second DVD disc included with the original.

It's got George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in it, meaning I think I'll have to suffer through this damn thing twenty times when my wife and daughters buy the DVD...

Sucked big time....two of my best friends went to see it and came home and warned me not to waste my money! Having a lot of famous people in a movie doesn't guarantee the plot's going to be any good-just that they all got paid quite a bit. I don't think I've read a good review yet for Ocean's Twelve from the critics or heard one from anybody I know!

George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, and Matt Damon together in one movie, and Rob *didn't* like it?

"Ocean's Twelve" Heists Box Office By Bridget ByrneOcean's Twelve flat-out soaked the competiton. George Clooney's and his abettors heisted a whopping $39.2 million over the weekend, according to final studio estimates Monday.
Watertight in the face of lukewarm reviews Ocean's Twelve, which adds Catherine Zeta-Jones to a star-studded mix that already included, among others, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon, the PG-13 Warners release scored as the fourth highest grossing December opening ever--topped only by The Lord of the Rings troika.
Swamping screens at 3,290 locations, Ocean's averaged $11,901 per site. Its haul was slightly lower than some box-office analysts had expected but still better than Ocean's Eleven, which set sail in 2001 with $38.1 million and eventually grossed $183.4 million domestically. However, ticket prices are a little higher than back in 2001 so fewer customers checked in this time around.
With audiences swept up by Ocean's, there was little left for Blade: Trinity. For the franchise's third outing, Wesley Snipes and vampire-slaying cohorts only managed to slash up $16.1 million in second place.

I liked it. Okay, so it wasn't as good as the first film, and CZJ was (I thought) a waste of space, but it was good.

I saw it. It was meh. Was Julia Roberts auditioning for Skeletor while filming this? Could they have at least put one attractive woman in the movie? The Topher Grace cameo was funny, but not much else was. What a waste of talent.

I saw this tonight, and while I enjoyed it, and the end I wondered what was the point of the whole thing. Why did they have to try to beat that other thief when they already had?

Mrs. G got the film from "Netflix" tonight and is watching it even as we speak.
Despite the fact it stars Clooney, et al, she thinks its a crappy, boring, film.

It is. Eddie Izzard's cameo is the best part of the film...
