This is one of those topics that have come up in a couple different threads. Who here has lost weight and what are some good ways of doing it?

Proper diet and regular excersize.
On a consistent basis.
Thats pretty much the only thing that is guaranteed to work.

Heroin will get you there faster though..
Plus instead of the stigma attached to crack, you can bask in '70's New York chic with heroin.

Two drastic ones that work:
1. Eat a bunch of veggies and nothing else. Take multivitamins for your B intake. Then run a couple of miles every day. Drink lots of water and tea.
2. Smoke cigarettes (which suppress appetite) and lower your food intake to simple stuff that gives you only 800 calories per day. Drink plenty of water and tea.
Bow ties are coool.

Right now I'm trying to lose weight. I haven't had fast food in over a month and have cut back on sada drastically. I've tried walking 20 hours everyday but its gotten too cold to do that.

Do you have access to a treadmill or stationary bike? Indoor stairs?

I'll write more later, but a few things first:
Lifting weights is ineffective for weight loss. You would have to do approximately one bazillion reps on the bench to lose a pound of fat. You're much more likely to gain weight than lose it if you do just that.
2 hrs is a helluva long time to devote daily. You don't need to devote that much time if you do it smart. But like you said, you can't do that anymore because of weather, so it's not a concern.
Sounds like you'll have to rely on diet alone until your area warms up.
There are a few basic numbers that you should know. You probably know most of these, but I'm gonna list 'em just in case: - There are 3500 calories in one pound of body fat (which is what I'm guessing you're trying to lose). In order to lose one pound, you must intake 3500 calories less than your body burns over any given period of time.
- Adult men and women burn anywhere from 2000 to 2500 calories per day, depending on their activity levels (men also use more calories then women). There is an equation to figure out how much YOU specifically use, but I'll only post it if you ask. Generally, you can just figure out your own activity scale and round off to the nearest appropriate hundred... unless you're anal.
- The reason most of diet advice you will receive won't give you long term results is because of the magic number: 1200. If you eat less than 1200 calories per day, your body will enter what is called "starvation mode". Once you get to this point, your body will automatically store EVERYTHING you eat. That's survival programming. First, that's bad because your body can't get everything it needs if you intake only 1200 cal/d. It just can't. And even if you lose a drastic amount of weight by crash dieting for a one-week period or one-month period (God forbid), you will most likely gain it right back once you get off the diet, since your body will continue to store everything you eat until you reach your "normal" weight.
- So, basically, your body isn't made to lose too much weight too quickly. The safe number is 1 to 2 pounds per week and that equates to eating 300 to 500 calories less per day than you're eating depending on your level of exercise. So if you're an inactive male, you want to keep it to about 1500 calories per day. If you're active, 2000. But remember, under no circumstances should you go below the 1200 c/d mark, and it's a very good idea to have that 300 c/d buffer.
Okay, that's, like, the basics. I'll post more about different types of diets (I've seen 'em all, trust me) after I've had breakfast.

I'm unemployed right now so I have the time to walk. I also take the bus everywhere and the main station is about a mile from where I live. I'll usually walk there if I am going anywhere. So walking is part of my everyday routine. I have no interest in lifting weights. When I do get in shape, maybe, but not right now.

When I was in high school I used to play basketball after school and ride my bike everywhere. Then I got a job, which cut down on my basketball time, and my friend got a car, which made me stop riding my bike. I do not know how to cook so If I have money, I end up getting fast food. I know to some people this might sound like something small, but it is really hard to break habits that I've had for ten years. Last time I weighed myself I was about 300 pounds. I know I have lost weight since then, but I don't know how much.

I was pushing 200 lbs for a 6 foot asian dude, so when i wanted to lose the gut I dropped soda and dranked primarily juices and water. That by itself really cut off some mad calories. Then I just stayed active regularly. Your body notices when you walk/run on a regular basis and starts altering metabolism. Metabolism is your best friend when it comes to weight loss. I lost like 30-40 lbs.
Holiday weight and sitting indoors in the cold has let me slip a bit. Ah well, more new years resolutions.

Believe it or not, we were just talking diets at our New Years party. One of the guys in my group is a personal trainer and he and one of the girls were talking about her diet. She's on the South Beach which is better for you than the other one, forgot the name of it off hand.
According to the guy, if it's white, don't eat it, like rice, white bread, whole wheat is better. Also, believe it or not, he said carrots have a lot of sugar in them.
As for me, I've found that excercise is the only way I lose weight these days, and I've been really wanting to sign up with a gym and work out, but lack of time, and mostly lack of extra money have kept me from doing it. Sure we have a stationary bike in the basement, but I was never a fan of bikes for working out, for me it was the precore machines.
As for pop, I only drink it when I'm at work, I generally don't drink it at home, and though I drink it when I'm out, I'm not a coffee drinker so that's how I take my caffine, really on a normal day, I only have 2 cans tops, at the absolute most.
Back in the days when diet used to work, I went a week with just having a salad for lunch and lost a little weight, don't know how much, but I could feel it in my clothes and my co-worker said she could tell I lost some.
I know all too well what it's like to have been active years ago then stopped, and gained weight. That happened to me when I stopped playing volleyball and hanging out with my friends constantly. Because we'd do more than the once a month volleyball, depending on the time of year, we would also do stuff Sundays after church.
But I digress. I have noticed at times when I'm running up and down the stairs at work that I'm shed a little, but it doesn't last because it's not conistent, and I usually get stuck at my desk trying to get caught up on stuff. But every little thing helps.
I noticed that with all the walking I did on vacation, I could feel a bit lighter that week, but again, it didn't last. When I came back home, it was back to the grind. It's funny, with all the running up and down the stairs I do at church you'd think I'd have dropped more than I have, but I'm statring to think I'm gaining muscle and so I'm not going to see it on the scale so I have to rely on my clothes for that.
But anyway, I was watching tv this afternoon and happend to watch a little of the Windsor Pilates infomercial and was thinking about renting it, see if I like it or not. I hear you can lose weight with pilates, so who knows.

That is so true, the more active you are, the faster your metabolism is. You should have seen how thin I was even 10 years ago, nothing I ate made me gain weight. I mean I'd gain weight very gradually, it wasn't noticable at all. The only way you could tell was by comparing clothes over the years. I couldn't fit into my prom dress any more but I had no problems with some other dress or skirt, I could wear them for years and they'd still fit.
I'm telling you, mono really screwed me up. Or should I say the steroids I had to take for toncilitis screwed me up. I had lost 10 pounds, gained that back plus 25 on top of that. That excess weight gain was almost overnight too and it wasn't anything I was eating. If anything I ate less than normal because I was severly depressed at that point.

I really wish I had access to some stairs. I really need to get a picture of the stairs I have at my house. I live in a two story duplex that used to be one house. Its a very common thing here. My landlord was too lazy to remove the stairs so right now we have a staircase that leads nowhere.

Well, that's a start. If you can still climb them and go down, then it's better than nothing. What will also help is to add some weight the more you do. I know it's helped that I climb stairs carrying both my (full) laptop case and my briefcase.

I can stand on the bottom step. Anything farther I have to bend over. The only stairs I walk on now are the ones at the library which are has three floors and very high ceilings.

Me in 2000 at almost 500 pounds Me in 2004 at 250 pounds sorry I don't have any recent full body photos, but here's how I did it. I used to take Stacker 2 with ephedra, and that dropped me from almost 500 pounds to 330 pounds in about a year. unfortunately, it also caused mental problems so I had to quit. Then I started working out and completely altered my diet about a year and a half ago, and I dropped from 330 to my current weight of 240. I eat a lot of vegetables, tuna fish, chicken, and steak occasionally. I completely cut out all fast food restaurants except for Subway (and I only eat from their 7 grams of fat and under menu). A small glass of juice in the morning with whole grain cereal, eggs, and a muffin or toast. I load up on carbs in the morning because it gives me energy for the day and I'll burn it off anyway. I stopped drinking soda and drank only water. For a water chart divide your weight by 3, and that's how many ounces a day you should drink. I drink a gallon of water in a day. Beer is okay, but not in large amounts. Maybe a couple bottles a week, if that. Vitamins and supplements. Very important. I take 2 megavitamins a day, one in the morning and one at lunch. I drink a protein shake after every workout. It's very important because when lifting weights you want to slightly tear your muscles, and the muscles need protein to rebuild, and the more muscle you have the more fat you burn. For that I drink Nitro-Tech with 2% milk. Milk is also very important to your diet, and should not be ignored. Just don't overdo the protein shake because you'll just shit it out and waste it. I also take 3 capsules of Muscle Jack and a handfull of creatine tablets a half hour before every work out. The reason for that is, the Muscle Jack increases testosterone output and the creatine increases anabolic insulin, and the combination creates muscular hypertrophy, which is a fancy way of saying maxiumum muscle growth. A good work-out routine I use is Body for Life. That site will have everything you need and answer any questions you have.

I figured you must have been Grimm-size, you looked really thin for 250(and pretty thin for 500, too).
I'm around 5'9/5'10 and I recently went over 200 pounds for the first time in my life(I was so mad I think I actually picked up the scale and threw it). Not good. Took me a few weeks but I'm back under 200, though not quite where I want to be yet.
There are people who can eat enormous amounts of food and remain paper thin. I am the exact opposite kind of person.

Seriously it's not. The reason I ask is simple. I've caught bits and pieces of the Biggest Loser recently, as well as had seen this one similar show on MTV, just after it started (while channel surfing) and I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid, for lack of a better word. I weigh more then some of the women on those shows, yet they seem much bigger than me. So I'm curious to see what others think I weigh, and no I probably wont reveal my actual weight, call me self concious for it, but I guess I feel like that because I used to be much thinner just 10 years back and so there are times when I think of the actual weight, in terms of numbes, I feel bigger than I really am.
And I'm the one with glasses, the tall one.

It's not a good picture to guess weight. I have no frame of reference as to height, bone structure, etc. That said, if I were to guess, I'd say between 150 and 165. And, judging by your face, neck, and upper body, I'd say you were working your way down.

He is far above mentions in so-called "blogs." RACK him, lest ye be lost! "I can't even brush my teeth without gagging!" - Tommy Tantillo: Wank & Cry, heckpuppy, and general laughingstock
