New England won the Super Bowl, the Red Sox are in first place with one of the best starts in team history(AND they spanked Roger Clemens at Fenway), and the Celtics are BACK, two games away from the NBA Finals, thanks to the greatest comeback in playoff history at the Fleet Center.

Boston fans are getting a REAL treat this year! Is it fate? Is it God making up for all the screw-ups? Or is this just another rise to an inevitable fall?

And finally, even if the Celtics and Red Sox win it all, will Bostonians stop complaining? Ha, I think we all know THAT will never happen....

nets took tonight, and bring the series back home. yanks laid the smack down on the bosox in the more recent games.

they got nothin, they'll have nothin.

Ah, the eternal war between New York and Boston, or, as it should be known as, the eternal arsekicking of Boston via New York.

in baseball, definitely. yanks / bosox are prolly the greatest sports rivalry of all time.

in basketball? never.

for starters, the nets are a jersey team. secondly, the nets are a scrubby team -- this being their first ever run this deep in the playoffs.

the celtics are a great match for the lakers, as far as history is concerned.

too bad the nets'll take that from'em. [Wink]

NJ and NY will forever be considered one.

Besides, you're forgetting the Knickerbockers!

Also, there's the Rangers and the Bruins(both great franchises, historically at least).

for baseball, thats one thing. there's no jersey team, so the 'local' teams are just the closest (yanks, mets, phillys, etc). for football, nj can just route for the two new york teams that play in jersey, jets and giants.

but there are eeeeeenormous differences between the knicks and nets.

The Knicks will be back, and soon.

Sure, they're not great, but they've still got talent, Houston, Camby and Spree are still young by normal(non athletic) standards, if they get a real steal in the draft I can easily see them back in the playoffs(and actually competing).

Two things to address:

Knicks-they got McDyess, who if he decides to play is a franchise player and makes a KILLER combo with Spree if he stays. Frank Williams could also prove to be a good addition.

Red Sox-after the Colon/Stevens deal with the Indians and Expos, it looks like Jim Thome is on his way to Bean Town, for Tony Clark and Trot Nixon. This makes the Red Sox lineup VERY dangerous. Observe:

1.Damon(batting .312 with 5 HR, 17 SB and 38 RBI)
2.Nomar(batting .315 with 9 HR and 59 RBI)
3.Manny(batting .359 with 9 HR and 37 RBI...in just 37 games)
4.Thome(batting .283 with 23 HR and 56 RBI)
5.Hillenbrand(batting .308 with 13 HR and 49 RBI)
6.Daubach(batting .246 with 9 HR and 32 RBI)
7.Sanchez(batting .318 and an excellent defensive 2nd baseman)
8.Varitek(batting .268 with 28 RBI and an excellent defensive catcher)

They also have Rickey the ageless wonder and Carlos Baerga on the bench, both of whom would be starting on most other teams.

This makes them the most dangerous hitting team since the Indians of a few years ago, with one "slight" difference:

The Red Sox have Pedro Martinez.
