Im suprised theres not already one of these, but you know the drill... The Obvious Spoilers Enjoyable movie! Before the complaints, i'll address the good bits. 1] The Anakin and Obi-Wan fight 2] The emotional ending to the Anakin and Obi-Wan fight 3] The planet Anakin and Obi-Wan had their fight on 4] The awesome and dramatic moment when the clones turned on the Jedi The complaints 1] I simply didnt buy Anakins turn to the Dark side. He was with the council, even telling Windu about Palpatines Sith Lord status, then suddennly he's pledging allegance to a loser and agreeing to change his name and slaughter kids. I dont get how Windu about to kill Palpatine would change anything in his mind, especially when he knew Dooku served Palpatine and even excecuted Dooku himself after knowing it was wrong 2] All the villains sucked big time. I know it was about Anakins decent into darkness, but Dooku was easily killed by Anakin 10 minutes into the movie, Grievous got slaughtered by Obi-Wan [even though he was defeating and killing Jedi-masters for fun in the comics and Clone Wars cartoon], and Palpatine became a complete mess, looking like a complete prick while using a lightsaber with his lame-ass technique, looking like he was fighting in slow motion, and that stupid smile always on his face was just lame. I cant believe he lost to Mace Windu [that means Samuel L probably could have taken Yoda ] 3] Anakin went to the dark side to help save Padme. How come he never got the lessons to save her, and why the hell would he continue to serve Palpatine in Episodes 4-6 when he was clearly stronger and even says he will betray Palpatine and rule the galaxy himself Overall I thought it was very good though, especially the last 20 minutes and the way it ended Lucas is apparently doing something Star Wars animated and producing a TV show that deals with some of the lesser known Star Wars characters who were barely noticable. Dont really know why he's doing this, but i'll check it out seen as im in Star Wars withdrawel mode now that its all over

He said all the crap about defeating Palpatine because he believed he had Padme at his side. Although he was being more selfish at that point, he still cared enough for her, as you saw by his reaction when he was 100% Vader ("NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!") *cough*
Once he believed her to be dead, he was trapped, physically and mentally. He had nothing else to live for except Palpatine's orders.
Plus, he didn't need the orders since he was in such a rage that he choked her and couldn't remember it.

Saw the 12:01am showing . . . and ended up falling into bed just before 4am (by the time I got home and ready for bed). I also saw a 2:40pm viewing (non-digital) and I'm totally wiped out. I need a nap, but I won't because I'm going to bed soon anyway. If you don't want to know what I liked then don't read any further! Alderaan - I've said many, many, many times to my friend Lee, "If Lucas ends this without showing us a glimpse of Alderaan I'm going to be extremely ticked-off." Let's just say that I'm not ticked off and the words from my mouth were, when I first saw it, "Oh my God. Are you kidding me?" and I had a huge smile on my face. R2-D2 - Is there any more doubt that this astro-droid is the most awesome mechanical being in the entire Star Wars galaxy? Palpatine - Holy hell! Evil this the only single word that can begin to describe this character. If you thought you saw glimpses of his "Evil" in AOTC you're going to be blown away by this. Mace Windu - He went out in a harsh way. Harsh. Jedi Purge - Wow. I got teary-eyed once Order 66 was given and they went after Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Kloon, Ayla Secura, etc. Wow. Yoda - Truly a Jedi Master . . . and I felt so sad after his fight with Palpatine. Wookies - Lots of Wookies! Chewie! Yoda riding Chewie's back! I actually got a little teary-eyed at Yoda's farewell to Chewbacca and Tarfal. Bail Organa - A lot more interaction with characters and a lot more screen time. We also get to see his wife. The Tantive IV - Holy hell does that bring back a sense of deja vu. Seeing a young Captain Antillies and the familliar halls... I'll be watching ANH tonight after I catch up on Alias. Anakin - Emotional conflict is the only way to describe him throughout this movie. Wanting to do good at every turn but terrified of losing Padme the way he lost his mother is ultimately what does him in. The fact that he killed the Younglings was a lot to take in even though they didn't show it. Obi-Wan - "Well, hello there." "You were my brother! I loved you!" Man . . . this speech to Anakin at the end on Mustafar . . . tears were running down my face. I could just feel the anguish coming from Obi-Wan. Vader - Before the suit there was still a little bit of Anakin in there and it just kinda twisted the knife a little more. But when he chokes Padme and then blames Obi-Wan for turning her against him... After the suit well, what can I say? As they were lowering the front of the mask onto him the look in his eyes made you think that there was still a lot of Anakin left inside. And yes, there was a Frankenstein moment when he asks about Padme and coming off the table.

Saw it. Really liked it. The opening sequence was exactly what I have been waiting for since I was little. I wish there was more space battles.
The acting was horrible. Definitely the worst part of the movie. It was so bad me and some others in the theater were laughing.
Seeing Chewbacca was cool. Another part that should have been longer.
The Anakin/Obi-Wan duel was okay. I liked the Yoda/emperor battle better.
Anakin being cut up and burnt was a little over the top. It could have been done much better. The looking through the mask part was really cool.
All the scenes at the end were great. Those are the scenes I've been waiting more than twenty years to see.
I'll have to see it again at a better theater before I pass final judgement, but I think Episode Two was better than this one.

Another thing, why the hell did Lucas make Palpatine Anakins father? that made absolutely no sense. Why does everyone in the movies have to be related?

The emperor said it during the opera scene. The emperor was talking about himself when he was talking about the sith lord who killed his master while he was asleep.

But he said his master was the one who was able to create life. And later he told Anakin that together they could discover the secrets of life and death together. I took that to mean that Sidious' master had orchestrated the birth of Anakin.

That's a stretch. I didn't get that at all. Of course he was talking about himself, but how do you go from there to creating a baby? Plus, that would negate the whole seduction of the innocent angle, if he was born to be evil. More than all the justification and the lame "Ok, whatever, I'll join" 2 minute conversion in this Episode did, I mean...

The books aren't... what's that word? cannon? Not oficial continuity. I bet Lucas doesn't even read em.

Canon.
And I thought Lucas didn't consider Timothy Zahn's excellent books canon.
But novelizations of his stories are different.

Petty Annoyances:
- Okay... we get it! Yoda talks weird! Do we really need every line to be absurdly incomprehensible?
- R2-D2 (a.) should not have thrusters and (b.) shouldn't go "WEEOWW!" every other line for the first ten minutes of the film.
- The fact that the vulture droids and half the alien races all sounded like Jawas. Originality much, Lucas?
- Chewbacca. There was no reason for him to be in this film at all, other than to appease the ravening fanboys.
- What the fuck was that iguana thing Obi-Wan was riding? It also made annoying noises.
- If Padme dies during childbirth, then how does Leia 'remember' her mother in Return of the Jedi? From that one measly little encounter? I have my doubts...
The Good Stuff:
- One line and seven seconds of screen time for Jar-Jar! My prayers were answered!
- The battles - Anakin v. Obi-Wan and Yoda v. Palpatine. Just too sweet!
- Palpatine's transformation. Wicked awesome and the most frightening part of the whole film!
- General Grievous. 'Nuff said.
- Dooku's demise. Beheading in a Star Wars film? Phenomenal!
All in all, I'd say this is the best of the "new trilogy" mainly because of the violence. That really made the movie ten times better for me.

That part was to set up the relationship between Chewy and Yoda in the original trilogy.

The Wookiees were fluff.
Order 66 was a well-done scene. I actually felt emotion!
The best acting from Hayden and Nat was the one scene when they didn't say shit and both were looking across the Coruscant skyline.
General Grevious, in the end, was a pussy-ass villian.
The Yoda-Palpatine duel was almost more exciting than Vader-Obi Wan.
The split scene between Anakin's Transformation and Padme's Delivery was great.
R2 seemed to be the most natural character in the film. Ironic.
TARKIN!
Alderaan.
More of Bail. Less of Jar Jar.
Palpatine's 'fight style' was suspect. I couldn't suspend my disbelief with him as I couldn't with an ancient Chris Lee doing backflips.

Palpatine Anakins father?! WTF are you guys on?! Palpatine was obviously the one who killed his master, Darth Plaugus, but Plaugus keeping his loved ones alive with the force and creating a baby with it is a bit of a leap. I prefer the rendition that he was the chosen one for the side of good and was just twisted by circumstance, that is what the film's meant to be about
I dont know whether to blame Lucas or Ian Mcdiarmid [Sideous actor] for the part of Palpatine. Sith Lords shouldnt look like they're fighting in slow motion, especially when they are meant to be carving up 3 experienced jedi-masters, and his dodgy technique where he pulls the lightsaber back for a thrust just isnt a move that would be useful when wielding a lightsaber [thrusts are useless when all you'd need to do is touch the enemy with no power behind the saber in order gain a huge advantage or even win]
Why wasnt Mace Windu the highest ranking jedi? He smoked palpatine in a saber battle, something even Yoda couldnt do. Luke should have visited a grumpy old black man for knowledge in Episode V instead

I was under the impression after the first film that he and Yoda were of equal rank, which makes a bit more sense. Yoda is more the sage master whereas Windu is more the warrior - which explains how he was able to bitchslap Palpatine while Yoda was not.

Have you considered the fact that Palpatine lost on purpose in order to push Anakin further to the dark side?
I think it was made pretty clear who was the real master between Mace Windu and Yoda

I dunno,Mace looked like he kicked ass pretty good & built up a sweat doing it.Yoda was stronger in the force probally because he'd been alive for 800 years training jedi & such. What got me a bit was that Dooku took out Obi-wan twice(Episode II & this one)pretty quick, while Anakin kicked Dooku's ass,cut his hands & head off & yet fighting Obi-wan took longer & he lost.

I have no complaints about this movie. Star Wars has never had any real depth of plot or acting, no matter the 'Episode'. Therefore, this was probably one of the best action films I've seen in years. The fact that it ties so inherently to a nostalgic film franchise of my youth, made it doubly sweet. I simply can't find anything to complain about, really. Loved it. Will see it again, and own it when it hits DVD. BTW, I took it that Leia must have been talking about her stepmother, or something. Either that, or Lucas just said "...eh..." *shrugs*, and let it go. I found it very interesting that Yoda said Qui-Gon had found the way for dead Jedi to appear as apparitions. That was a nice tie-up-touch for all the phatom Obi-Wan's in the original trilogy. Is it me, or, was James Earl Jones' age showing through his voice? It didn't sound nearly as.....deep. Perhaps they were just softening it to make it sound 'young', or something. No complaint really. All in all, the best Star Wars movie ever made without Han Solo...

I just re-watched the scene in Return of the Jedi and Luke asks her if she remembers her real mother. So it was another mess up.
But, in the books it says how a mother has a very strong bond with her children before their born, so in a way she could remember her, but probably no more than Luke does.

I liked that also. Its kinda cool to know that Obi-wan had someone to talk to all those years. It was kinda sappy, but cool.

I blame that on the script. Those weren't the best lines he could've said... it sounded unnatural coming from the voice we all know and love. Especially that "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!". I cringed in my seat from its sheer chessiness.

I find it funny how everyone places this stuff under a microscope. 28 years of story telling. I'd like to see each of you tell a story you have lived over that long a period and get it as tight as you want SW to be. Lets make it fun. Every time you screw up you get John Holmes in the not so fun place. This stuff is great. All of you are BITCHES! lol Not all. hee hee
