another fun thread, stolen from another board.
THE RULES: state your opinions and do not argue with others. if you find an individual topic or opinion sparks your interest enough, dedicate an additional thread to that topic to carry on that specific debate / discussion there.
some samples to get things started:
Dragon Ball Z is incredibly lame and the action stinks.
Wonder Woman’s costume looks really stupid for an ambassador from an ancient Greek type country.
Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, Diana should age, die, and be replaced; almost all superheroes should age and die.
The Golden Age wasn’t that great, the stories sucked.
The Silver Age wasn’t that great either.
Comics today are better than they have ever been: stories, artwork, and character development are excellent compared to previous effort.
The vast majority of anime and manga sucks; the art is god-awful.
All the Star Wars movies really aren’t that good; the newest three just had better effects.
Hal Jordan & Oliver Queen should have remained dead.
Wolverine is totally and completely overrated.
Alex Ross is holding back the progress of the DC Universe by pandering to the fanboy that're stuck in the Silver Age.
Kevin Smith is a talentless buffoon.

I agree with almost all of the above... and can't be arsed to start threads on the topics I don't agree with...

I too agree with almost all, except for the last one. I ESPECIALLY agree with the first.

The Unltimate universe is the worst thing to happen to comics.
The portrayal of women's breasts in today's comics are rediculous and juvinile.
Image comics were never really that cutting edge.
buying single issues is a complete waste of money. The story's not going anywhere so you can wait a year to read it. Nothing will have acctually changed.

Erik Larsen's run on Aquaman was brilliant.
The X-Men, as a concept, are no longer socially relevant.

Stories should be told in as few pages as necessary. If the story can be told in an 8-page story, don't do a full issue. If the story can be told in one issue, don't spread it out into 6 issues.

Ultimate Marvel is better than 90% of DC's current crap.
Geoff Johns is a hack writer who ran out of ideas his second year.
Vertigo is the best thing to ever happen to comics.
Alex Ross is only amazing when you first see his work, then the novelty wears off.
Infinite Crisis is an incredibly stupid name.

JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice is a horribly written comic.
(That one started as a more general Geoff Johns bashing comment, then I realised I hadn't read enough of his stuff to say that authoritatively and so picked one comic.)
Thing is- I can’t spell or type. I spell so badly my spell check doesn’t even know what I was trying to spell. And I have five Eisners HAHAHAHHA!!

Avengers Dissasembled was a piece of crap. So is New Avengers. Actually all of Bendis's comics besides Daredevil completely suck.
The Ultimates is the only good Ultimate Marvel book. Period.
All you fans that support these mega crossover events by buying all the tie in issues so you can have complete sets, and still bitch about it, are the very ones that are cause of the shitty state of the industry.
Watchmen is good, but not as great as hyped. And it's really sad that it's used as the prime example of the genius the comic industry has when it was published 20 years ago.

I think there are comics for everyone. I think there are writers, artists, characters, companies for everyone. It's like saying hondas or fords suck???? Who cares some people like them?
Anyway I'll add my fanboy spiel....
Darwyn Cooke is the greatest writer/artist working today.

Peter David is still great. John Byrne hasn't done anything good since Man of Steel. Kingdom Come was only good because of the art, otherwise it was mediocre. Superman and Batman would never be friends. Batman hasn't been good since Brubaker/Ruka left. Willingham writes great Fables but can't write a decent superhero book to save his life. Devin Grayson's Gotham Knights series was great, everything else she's done has been shitty.

The Cyborg got lame after Hunter/Prey. Ben Reilly was an interesting character. He may have been better off as the Scarlet Spider though (who had a neat costume). However him as Spider-Man was cool too, though he got the short end of the stick being a clone and all. The Electro-Superman saga had good subplots. Az-bats was over rated.

Geoff Johns is overrated and his writing on JSA is bland.
I want Barry Allen back in the DCU.
I have mixed feelings on John Ostrander's the Spectre. Making Jim Corrigan sort of a jerk and a humorless brooder was bad. I also hated Ostrander cutting off his emotional ties to the JSA and killing off Amy Beitterman.
You can write stories about the Golden Age Spectre and Dr. Fate without distancing them from their humanity.
Just because a character is really powerful does not mean you can't write a good story about them. Ever heard about emotion conflict anyone?
I also want Jim Corrigan back. I like the guy.
Greg Rucka's writing on Superman sucked.
I hate Pat Mills' comic series Marshal Law.

Yeah, I wasn't blown over by Watchmen although I did like the fiction bit very much.
Oh, I forgot to add one more thing to my list: Mark Millar's Wanted SUCKED!

Jim Lee's art isn't really very good. The same also applies to Frank Miller.

Frank Miller's art sucks. Have you seen the way he draws Elektra, WW, and...well all women? It's Gob awful. I like Lee's art, but like Alex Ross's art it gets old after awhile. I've been picking up IC comics with Perez covers cause: a) I don't like Lee's covers and b) Perez's covers just have that good old classicy look to them.

Smallville can be a great show when they try. I don't care if they change things in movies, as long as its not drastic (ala Catwoman)
