Hmmm, okay lack of knowledge in the video game industry, not as much backing as Sony's PSX2 and NINs Cube, fucking bulky. Not going to be as graphically advanced as GCN. Hmmm.

I remember seeing an earlier prototype for it. It was featured in Time Magazine. It was basically an "X" in a bulky 3d pattern. Hence the name, X-box. Now it looks more friendly, but still very large. Obviously they are trying to learn from Nintendo and PSX2 on the concept of multiple ports.

There were all kinds of problems with Microsoft's original designing phase. I am not sure it won't have some level of success, but similar to PSX2, they don't really offer any in-house developers, which was something that Nintendo had for ages, and also offered as a sign of strength, in terms of the Rare division and Mario, Zelda, and the various spin-offs.

xbox will be an incredible system!

but... you dont buy a system for the system. you buy a system for the games.

and, bottom line, nintendo will have the best games, both from their exclusive first and second party designers, as well as their (now) ability to have designers do cross platform games, bringing every game from the ps2 onto the gamecube.

but, based on systems alone, xbox is probably the most powerful. it also has a price tag of 100 bucks higher. and, lets not forget, with mircosoft backing it, it will, by far, have the most advertising / hype behind it -- more powerful than every existing system, combined.

Advertising and long term potential, it could be powerful, but experienced software makers who have worked making games with the X-box vs. games with other systems. Express doubts. At IGN, someone from... was it Konami? Dammit one of the big ones. He blasted the XBOX. Tried to be nice about it, but said the system was not all it's hyped up to be.

well, bottom line, the japanese hate it. whether its hard to design for or not, its an american system, trying to break "traditional rules" by entering into the business, and thus, isn't making too many friends.

so, traditional japanese designers (70% of the market) are either completely upset, or just not-too enthralled with the system, before they even check it out.

but, yeah, the system is definitely much more difficult to design for than the gamecube, a system quoted as "a designer's dream."

and, tho i'd never buy one, i still say that the xbox looks pretty cool, and i think it'll be one amazing system. but fortunately, i already have a computer.

How much is an X-Box supposed to cost? That looks like it'll be llike 700 dollars... which was how much damn near every system cost that came out in the mid 1990s...

That's right, you're 8 years old. The only system that cost that much was Neo Geo, which was a colossal waste of space. I think SNK was calling it the big thing, but its games were over twice as much (150.00) as Genesis and SNES and Turbo Graphix (heheheh) games. Hey Rob, remember NEC? Bonk? LOL! Every other system hit 200-300 dollars. Neo Geo cost 500-600. What was SNK thinking? No one will ever know...

I know there were some other doomed systems out there... Atari Jaguar, or was it the Panther? Some company made something I saw at Electronics boutique, but I can't remember what it was called... I think it had a bunch of triangles on the pad as part of the symbol. Didn't really launch too well.

Eight years old?

I remember the Neo-Geo. Then came the Neo-Geo CD, which was less pricey.

Atari Jaguar, Jaguar CD, Real 3DO, and Phillips CDI were the short-lived game systems.
