I just saw this.
Now as a GI Joe movie, it falls short.
It is very Star Wars. Episode 1-3 anyway.
Actually, I think it was better than the Star Wars prequels.
Especially since GI Joe had to produce large scale obvious cgi battles without the resources of George Lucas, and Industrial Light & Magic.
I enjoyed it more than Terminator Salvation.

I will say one thing about the reviews. I read Ebert's and it is obvious he didn't even watch the movie. That is ridiculous.
I liked it for what it was...I really only had 3 problems with it...
Channing Tatum sucked ass as Duke.
The CGI was gawd-awful.
It had so many Star Wars rips/riffs it was a shame.

I fully enjoyed this, tbh. I mean, I steeled myself against the cheese by watching old eps of the cartoon all week before going.
Sienna nailed it as Baroness (despite the lack of accent...although, I'm not entirely sure that's a bad thing), so that made me willing to forgive a tonne of flaws. Seeing your favorite character done justice covers a lot of evils.
I didn't mind Tatum as Duke...but I already liked him for reasons most of you don't much notice (hahaha), and I was never fond of Duke as a character.
The only real GLARING miscast in my head (other than Ripcord...but I really couldn't give a rats ass about the character) was Hawk. I dislike Quaid, and he fully didn't fit the role in my head. He and what's his fuck (dude from Encino Man) didn't belong on the set.
All told though, I liked it. I'll be going to see it again this weekend.

Joe 2. The search is underway for a new director to lead the follow-up to Stephen Sommer's 2009 release, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, though previous reports suggest that helmers Jon Chu and F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) are in the running for the lead chair.
Goldner also went into spoiler territory by telling the website that this sequel would begin where the first film finished off, exploring the link between the presidential imposter and the Joes' enemies.
"Obviously, we know coming out of the first film that the president is an impostor," Goldner said, "You might begin with the knowledge of having your president as an impostor. What would that mean? From that, you can tell a very big story without only having to rely on the chronology of the first film."
