what was your favorite gaming system ever? not the best ever, but which one was the most exciting when you got it? my favorite gaming sytem was the Bally Astrocade: all the cool games in the arcade exceot for pacman were made by bally, and this home system had them all. we ordered it out of a Montgomery Ward catalog in like 80 or 81. there was an optional cartridge where you could write your own programs in BASIC, youd spend three days entering code and when you were done youd have a green line that went from side to side or some nonsense, but it was cool as hell. i was sure i could hack into NORAD and start WW3!

I'd have to say it was the Amiga 500+
As I'd previously owned a few C64s, when I finally saw my friends Amiga 500, I had to have one, but was unemployed at the time, and they were bloody expensive. I managed to get one by paying in installments, and got the + version, which had double ram (which I later doubled again). So many of my all time fave games came from this era, and funnily enough, I have finally git WinUAE working on my PC, and got hold of a shit load of roms, and have been playing them today!
A lot of these games are still so damn playable!

I'd go for the genesis since it was the only gaming console I ever owned when I was a kid. I literally bought the console and the bundled sonic cart with my own money by saving up all my allowances, skipping lunch, and sucking many priests' dicks for a nominal fee.

the system i got the most fun play out of... might be nintendo 64. that was 1996. i think timing wise, it perfectly worked out that i was in college at the time, and it had some amazing 4 player games on it.
i loved the pre-atari odyssey II, but i don't remember getting it, so i don't remember being excited for it. atari, too (i think i had atari 400)
i waited online for gamecube and nintendo wii, but that was more being retarded than being excited. i can't imagine doing that again (waiting in line, not being retarded)
i guess i was most excited to get the NES. my dad's family had worked with/at sears roebuck for years, so my family was able to get one of the first systems available in the states -- months before it went public or anyone knew what the fuck a "nintendo" was. back in 1985, if i recall correctly, so i guess i was in first or second grade.

The NES hands down. It's the one I got the most use out of. Getting it with Super Mario Bros, Top Gun, and Mike Tyson's Punch Out made it one of the best Christmas presents OF. ALL. TIME! Sadly the sumbitch finally gave out on me 3 years ago, but I still own it, and refuse to get rid of it. The SNES comes in second cause I bought it myself. It still works as well.

What I also loved about the 500+ was that I could take it round to my friends, connect it to his 500, and we could do like a lan party. I remember playing one of the Lotus challenge games, with four of us able to play against each other (two on each computer).
Of course on top of everything else, as it was more of a computer than a console, you could also do word processing and spreadsheets etc.
I also remember going to another friends house and seeing an early version of the internet on his as he had a modem connected to it (which was totally amazing at the time).

I'd have to say the NES with the 64 a very close second. With the NES a friend of mine and I used to ride our bikes down to a store that rented games for $2 a day. Get it on a Saturday, and it wouldn't be due back until Monday because the store was closed on Sundays. For that reason I owned very few games but played a shitload.
The 64 for pretty much the same reason Bobo stated. I was in college and 4 player on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were big favorites with my group of friends. Not to mention the WCW games from THQ as well as their Wrestlemania (where we all began to create crazy fucking characters to fight one another with).

I'd have to say the PS1. Not only was it my first non-handheld console, but also I have many many fond memories of some of those now-classics.

I don't have a favorite console. A console is nothing without its games.
Since Knights of the Old Republic is my favorite console game I would have to say that the xbox is my favorite console.
A close second would be the Gamecube because of Metroid Prime.
