this is an opportunity for the republican party to take out the trash and clean up its act. we talk about how things were stacked against us, and yeah, a lot happened that we couldn't control - but how much of that could the GOP have avoided by addressing complacency and corruption a lot sooner? the election wasn't lost because of john mccain - although admittedly he shouldn't have brought a knife to a gunfight - it was lost because there aren't enough john mccains in the GOP. the republicans have two years to get back in touch with the principles and values that really matter to us - smaller government, less spending, less taxes, defending democracy, fighting socialism, and encouraging the improvement of society through hard work and responsible citizenship - and step up to the plate with real answers to the problems America faces both at home and abroad.

The republicans probably did need to lose to rebuild. i have read for ages that a lot of people within the party wanted a big clean up, but when you're in power it's hard to get the support together to rock the boat.

Hey, even I wouldn't mind seeing a sane conservative party re-emerge in this country.

But the Republicans need the Religious Right crazies too much to make that happen. They can't afford to sacrifice those votes for something as trival as sound policy and positions!

another positive thing about this election is my wife has broadened her views. She used to vote strictly Democrat, she voted for Kerry in her first Presidential election and said she would always vote Dem for President, she voted Dem in the primary for Hillary, but she voted for McCain in the general. So Obama has bridged some ideological gaps.
