Sure prime killed a bunch of characters, but he did it in a comicbook, in a universe he was fully conscious existed as a comicbook. Does that mean Geoff Johns should be brought in for war crimes at the Hague too?

Remember, Geoff did bring him out of limbo and had him turn evil. Before that, Prime was pretty much the same as the Earth-One Superboy. And remember, people on Earth-Prime do have the ability to influence comic reality. It's different than the comic writers on Earth-One, who were merely low-level psychics who tapped into alternate universe. No, with Earth-Prime, writers can and HAVE affected events. Cary Bates, as I often mentioned, was once turned evil and killed the JSA with his Earth-Prime powers (which I bring up at any possible opportunity, since it's freakin' awesome).

Since Morrison's Animal Man is in continuity, Prime is, in fact, not responsible for his actions. No character is (with the exception of the main versions of Superman and Batman, as they can influence creators and we have a sense of what they would and wouldn't do), which in a way makes every writer Parallax.

I'm only half-serious here, of course, but it does raise some interesting issues: Is it wrong to turn a good character evil just for a crossover? Do we have any duty to respect characters even if they aren't real? Do we deny or give them free will?

It's perhaps easier when the character isn't well known enough to have a large fanbase. Prime was known by a few hardcore fans (and, as I recall, many really liked the concept--I know I did), but was pretty obscure. But, as is often said, every character is SOMEONE'S favorite, which makes me skeptical of the "turning heroes evil" concept (oddly, I like the opposite--turning villains good). But I can only imagine the outrage if say, Conner Kent or Barbara Gordon became a serial killer. Would fans be justified in complaining about that or not?

Also, I don't feel the Superboy-Prime concept has ever gone far enough--either as a hero or a villain. I loved the setting and updated setting Clark-Prime was born into and think it was rich with story possibilities; however, it was destroyed in the Crisis, and we only got to see Prime as a brief hero. On the other hand, as a villain, his motives seem too fickle. For instance, at first he saw himself as a hero, but regularly teamed with known villains--even ones with "villains" in their name title. That always seemed kind of odd to me. (Not to mention his insults seemed designed not to offend fans of the characters he hated. I think he should've said far harsher things than he did--art can sometimes be offensive, and many of the best is.) But after IC, he seemed to just want to mess stuff up, except for some flashback scenes in SCW (which was probably when the character was at his creative peak--as a villain, anyway), and he had a way of justifying his behavior to himself. But now, with Earth-Prime back, he has no motivation at all. He's become LESS interesting as a character, which is never a good thing.

I don't know, it seems like Prime has never lived up to what COULD be done with the character. He's unique, so why have him just be cruel for fun, now? There are plenty of characters like that.

I mean, compare the horrified after killing Prime in the early issues of IC to the current one. I find the first example much more interesting as a character, instead of the "I hate everyone but me" Prime we have now. That Prime actually had opinions that a person going through his circumstances might have, while the current one has become evil for the sake of evil.

Having said all this, I'm still mixed on the ending. They were parts I liked about it, and parts I didn't like. Most fans will probably be polarized on it, but I seem to be struck in the middle.

If it happened in the Politics forum, then yes I did. Still, there were plenty of times that he did link his source, even when all he was doing was copying and pasting. Doesn't change the fact that whomod is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge pussy and Sikkbones is a lousy plagiarist.

Adventure Comics #4 (Blackest Night tie-in): Superboy Prime is reading his own comic book. And he doesn’t like what he sees.

Jeez. They took what was a joke, a shitty joke at that, and now it's going to be a recurring plot point in the DCU? Damn.

Ten to one, they're copying that Amazing Stories episode about the lady going through a library full of books with names of people still alive, then finds one with her own name. She opens the book to read it and the last page ends with "She opens the book and reads it." Then she uses white out to alter her own timeline, again and again.

DC won't get too far using an old Steven Speilberg story to give themselves more publicity. After all, when was the last time you heard anyone talk about "Stone Cold" Shark Boy?

Actually, there's an old Bob Haney/Jim Aparo issue of Brave and Bold where some terrorists find a way to get to Earth Prime and plan to kill Batman by making Haney and Aparo write/draw his death into a comic book. That issue predates the Amazing Stores series.

Superboy Prime didn't seem to think so. He flipped to the last pages of the comic and went "No! NOOOOO!".

Superboy Prime besides being evil has bad taste in comics though.
