Having already influenced the heart and mind of one good man in "Forrest Gump," Sally Field is set to play the nurturing mother figure all over again with a role in director Marc Webb's upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot.

Just hours after the announcement that Martin Sheen is in final negotiations to play Uncle Ben in the relaunch of the "Spider-Man" franchise comes word that Field is set to play his wife, Aunt May. Field is reportedly in early talks to play Peter Parker's beloved aunt, reports Heat Vision, with the casting not completely finalized at this stage.

Aunt May was played by Rosemary Harris in Sam Raimi's previous "Spider-Man" trilogy.

In the comics, Uncle Ben and Aunt May raised Peter as if he was their own son. After Uncle Ben is murdered by a burglar, May becomes Peter's last and only lifeline to family life. Despite having a wealth of friends and even love interests such as Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson at his disposal, Peter's relationship with Aunt May remains a critical one throughout the "Spider-Man" mythos, so much so that he was willing to give up his own marriage to save May's life in the relatively recent "One More Day" story arc by Joe Quesada.

If Field does indeed join the cast, she'll swing alongside an impressive lineup that already includes "The Social Network" actor Andrew Garfield as Spidey himself, "Easy A" actress Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as the movie's currently unidentified villain and Sheen as Uncle Ben.
