I like Gary Frank but, I really didn't like his and Johns run on Action comics. Frank's Superman, IMO, looked far less like he grew up in Kansas and more like he grew up on the Cahulawassee River.

His intentional Chris Reeve Superman was cool, at first. Then, it was respectful. Then, it started becoming so prevalent that it removed me from any "story" Johns had hacked together in five minutes by masturbating to a life-sized idol of Richard Donner.....

I've come to the conclusion that Shazam..aka captain marvel can't work anymore. Mostly because people don't like children anymore.....and very rarely do they even like their own.
Fanboys don't want stories about a good-hearted, noble kid. A kid, embarking through a world of adults inside a super-powered body of an adult seeing through the eyes of a child.
No, they want super-babes with butt floss costumes, big titties, and lots of whoring around. Or they want convoluted back history and continuity that makes no sense except to anal-retentive 30 somethings.
Or they want every mother fucking hero and villain to be in some gray area of morality...where everyone has a dark side and a nice side...depending on the day.
It's a fucking joke....

However, I think he took his small town yokel models from a good reading of Deliverance.

It's a fucking joke.... Hmm... I hope you're wrong. Adults do like the new Chronicles of Narnia movies, right? And here I hoped the previous Shazam! comic book would bring more kids to read comics.

lot of adults are into Harry Potter. don't why see Shazam! couldn't have a similar audience. DC's just clueless about handling their characters.

Fanboys don't want stories about a good-hearted, noble kid. A kid, embarking through a world of adults inside a super-powered body of an adult seeing through the eyes of a child. i think the best example of a captain marvel type "corniness" clicking in today's market is batman: brave and the bold. the toon, frankly, is awesome - filled to the brim with over the top cheesiness and nods to old school fans galore, but there's an underlayer of story to support and stand on its own. appeals to kids cuz its kid aimed, but adults get in on the fun, too - old school fans or otherwise - like a pixar movie. captain marvel could (and probably should) exist in this regard. in other words, don't try to reinvent or update the character. i think they should play into the simplicity as a strength.

Indeed. A Shazam cartoon would be an easy sell. Surprised that they didn't do it around the time they did the Krypto one.

Yeah. I've said all along that DC need to realize that Cap only works as a character for kids and just market the hell out of him that way. Other than the odd "one off" version that does something interesting with an adult version but can't be sustained due to the subject matter (primarily Kingdom Come but also TDKSA), Cap has never worked as a character for (non infantile) adults.

They did have an all-ages Captain Marvel book, "Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam". Unfortunately Shazamgrrrrrrrrrrrrrl bought every copy and hid them in her pooper.
