Here's a list of my favorites: The Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941, Republic Pictures)- the greatest cliffhanger serial ever made. You can see where Jerry Ordway got alot of his ideas for Cap's new origin as depicted in th POWER OF SHAZAM! hardcover grahic novel by watchin' it. Superman and the Mole Men (1951, Desilu Productions)- George Reeves was the man. Barbarella (United Artists, 1968)- Hee hee...Duran Duran... Danger Diabolique! (1967?)- I remember the first time I caught this on the late movie (sometime around 3 am, a local Fox affiliate, WXIX Channel 19, used to run old flicks after prime time) about 10 years ago. Based on the French comic strip, this film served as an inspiration for the Beastie Boys "Body Movin'" video Superman the Motion Picture (1978, Warner Bros.)- It's surprising how well this flick holds up today. I cannot wait for the Special Edition DVD that'll be released this summer. Howard the Duck (1986, Universal Pictures)- sure it sucks, but I enjoy it for the same reason horror novelist Clive Barker does....it has one of the coolest stop-motion monsters ever during the climax. Batman (1989, Warner Bros.)- This is the big movie that me and bsams and our assorted friends gauge any superhero flick against. Sure, it's kinda dated now....but probably the best of the franchise (though in my opinion, Batman Forever was the one that came the coolest to being a live action version of the comics. How Schumacher could go so wrong with that whole Batman and Robin fiasco is beyond me.) The Rocketeer- (1991, Walt Disney)- one of my top three. I love this flick, but my opinion is biased because I'm a long time Dave Stevens fan. The Crow (1994, Miramax)- just a cool flick. The Phantom (1996, Paramount)- another of my top three, because I love the character. It surprised me how close to the source material they stayed with this one. Plus, it funny as hell...Zane is such an incredible smart-ass as the Phantom. Blade (1998, New Line)- one of the few instances in which the film was better than anything that was ever done in the comic. Snipes was perfect as Blade. Eagerly awaiting: From Hell- the film adaptation of Alan Moore's award winning comic about Jack the Ripper, directed by the Hughes Bros, of Menace II Society and Dead Presidents fame. Spider-Man- Sam Raimi is the coolest director around, and being both a comic fan and a fan of his films (THE EVIL DEAD trilogy, DARKMAN,THE QUICK AND THE DEAD, A SIMPLE PLAN, FOR LOVE OF THE GAME, and the recent THE GIFT), this is the next big one for me. I may not agree with some of the casting decisions, but what the hey? It'll be an incredible flick. Blade 2: Bloodhunt- because the first one was so cool... What are some of yours?

superman, 1978. christopher reeve looked disturbingly similar to the comic book version of superman. just a cool ass movie, that i think worked well on all audiences(young, old, boy, girl, etc). batman, 1989. again, i think this movie worked well on all audiences, just in a different time period. both fit incredibly in their own time period. i do think that this movie was more powerful, tho. superman was a cool movie. batman was a cool event. the crow. nuther good flick. more of a cult following, than the bigger bugetted batman. mask of the phantasm. good stuff. a little short, and not enough time spent smoothing out the animations, but, this told a really good tale and fit in really well with the then-running BTAS. world's finest. again, a great movie (tho only aired as a 3 part tv show). again, not enough time smoothing out the animations, but this was a dini original, greatly characterizing both supes and batman. excellent.

Superman - the first movie I ever saw! My Dad used to take me to work all the time, (I was too young to help but he had to do his fair share in looking after me) on this one occasion we went to see the film. Superman 2, the lois and clark gayness removed this is a great film - you gotta love Zod! And what a great fight with the Renegades! Batman as has been said, it was an event - I have to say I was disappointed with it although now it has grown on me! Hulk, for some reason when the series was at it's most popular, they gave a theatrical release to the first double length episode! As it is my all time favourite show, it deserves a mention!

World's Finest is available on VHS from Warner Home Video under the title of "THE SUPERMAN/ BATMAN Movie"...they released it shortly after it aired on television. I picked up my copy at Wal-Mart around the time it was first released. Speaking of animated tv shows, recently seen in my local Wal-Mart a DVD version of the "BATMAN BEYOND" pilot movie, which included 4 more episodes on the disc, for 9.99. Cheap way to get an introduction with this series if yer unfamiliar with it.

I have seen the MST3K episode (called Diabolique) of this movie and it was a stinker, not as bad as the usual repertoire but quite cheesy. Still stylish though! A poor mans Arsene Lupin, maybe... My faves: Ghostworld, cause Buscemi is great, it has the nunchuck wielding Redneck and is a damn cool movie! The second Batman: Nice atmosphere, less cheesecake, these movies just keep getting worse, it seems, like with Jack Black as Green Lantern, get outta here!! Hellboy: No fuss, nice action adventure with great characters.
Think clean thoughts, chum.

I enjoyed the parts of The Shadow that didn't make me hate it. Another plus is Sir Big Gay Ian Mckellen.

I never really got why MST3K showed Diabolique, it's probably one of the most influential movies of the last 35 years. Tim Burton said it was a big influence on his movies, including Batman.
I haven't seen the Shadow in years, but I remember liking it when I first saw it.

I don't know, but this D-guy, his character seemed very shallow and his babe only had one defining characteristic too. She was all: "Gimme the bling-bling."
I gave this episode to a friend of mine, who disliked the movie too, but she went nuts over all the cool furniture and D's secret hideout, so I guess I can see why Burton would like it. But one of the most influential movies of the last 35 years, naaaah. Are you talikng on pair with stuff like Shining, Eraserhead, Empire strikes back, Deliverance, Cloackwork Orange, The Godfather, The Big Lebowski etc.?

I'm not saying it's a tremendous movie or anything, but it was one of the very first psychedelic action thrillers, a style most commonly found previously in British tv shows like the Avengers and Danger Man, and one that was extremely prevalent in the 70's.
As a story, yes, it's awful, but it's still one of the first of its kind. In terms of quality, it doesn't compare to something like Big Lebowski, but at the same time I wouldn't say the Big Lebowski was an extremely influential film(unless you count inspiring dozens of RKMB posters to recite lines).

Which could explain why the first Batman movie actually sort of sucked
