Starring: Robin Williams
Directed by: Mark Romanek

 -

Review:
One of Robin Williams most surprising performances. he has moved away from his typical children roles and transformed himself into a man with a psychotic and obsesive behavior. I think he plays the role beautifully

The movie is full of a disturbing asmosphere of suspence that captures you from the start, taking you into a weird journey of the reality of loneyness and obcession. Makes the simple art of taking a picture into a more meaninful project and teaches you the value of some things that we take for granted.

the negatives:

Im getting a bit tired of movies that starts with the ending of the movie. I think is allright when the ending is exciting and helps you want to see more about it. This was not the case. It was totally unecessary and the actual end leaves you somewhat incomplete, Unresolved. Leaves questions unanswered but perhaps thats the point. There is a lesson to be learned in this movie. ....to value your family, cause some dont have any....that is all.

Starting with the ending, like Fight Club?

I liked this movie alot, Williams was great, and I think the filming itself was superb, very haunting at times. A great thriller. Good review, Butterican.

well done, butter!!

i dig the rating scheme :)

i havent seen this movie, because of its decision to not play in any theater near by. ... frustrating.

however, i really WANT to see it. ill prolly just end up taking the path into NYC this weekend to check it out, cuz i've heard nothing but good about it, in a dark and disturbingly mysterious way.

plus, robin williams, in my mind, is a phenomenal actor -- one of the best in the industry. id love to see this movie simply because of the setup, and the fact that he's this crazy guy -- a role which seems to force good acting.

so i hope.

I understand Willams Next movie will be called "Car Wash Blues". Co-starring with Willams in this movie will be Kevin Costner and Polly Shore. This movie will be a drama about three men and their efforts, pains and triumphs they experience working at the car wash. The movie is rated R for language and brief nudity. The one controversial sceene in this movie is where the 3 guys are behind the car wash with their pants down taking a leak, smoking cigerates and telling dirty jokes. The camera gives you a view of all three bare asses. Manny groups have boycotted this movie because they don't wanna see Polly Shore's ass.
The movie is directed by Ron Howard.

i saw this for the first time last night on dvd (it became available yesterday, nationwide)

good frickin movie. very, very disturbing.

having just re-watched insomnia this weekend, i was already freaked out by williams dead-on "crazy-ass-mo-fo" character. he's a great actor, lemme tell ya. incredibly underated (really, because his comedy just outshines it).

i really liked one hour photo, and im actually kinda amazed it didnt get more coverage or promotion. tho it was an indy, it was easily a better movie than most that was released in the same year.

very haunting, very disturbing... lotsa little stuff, but pulled together very well.

For me, the ending ruined the whole movie. I mean, it builds up very well, and it's certanlly beautifully directed, but the ending isn't malicious enough. It feels like the writer chickened out and took an easy way out, cause otherwise it would have been too disturbing. They needed a malicious son of a bitch willing to play with the viewers emotions to write the ending of that movie properly.

Of course, maybe that isn't possible because it would have changed radically William's image, even more than it alredy did.

well... just in case...

SPOILERS BELOW HEEYAH!

i thought the ending was pretty spot on.

sure, everyone was waiting to find the ravaged slaughter and bloody carcasses, but... that didnt fit the character. sy (williams) wasnt a murderous psychopath -- he was a regular psychopath.

he wasn't deviant or perverted in the natural respects of those words. he wouldn't even allow his art to be ruined by taking photographs of the sexual acts.

all he wanted in the world was normalcy: a perfect, balanced family, and every day life that others take for granted. the most "savage" thing he could comprehend was to ruin that perfection -- to destroy a family by exposing an affair.

I've seen things on this movie on HBO and other programs, but never a commercial. It didn't play here, either. A lot to be said for advertising.

it was only in a few select theaters in a few select cities. pushed, mostly, by word of mouth in its indy status -- tho it never came off as indy quality (nor indy cast, with big names like williams)

Yeah, I thought he was gonna go on a murderous rampage, but I didn't like that option either, because (as you say) it would have been out of character. What I would have found more interesting would be the character turning into a murderous psychopath. He should have been taken to a limit beyond the one he was taken on the movie.
