Seeing as how the book is complete and utter shit, I don't read Ultimate X-Men. Good to see Millar is implimenting rational characterization into his stories, though.
I bought the series for the Ultimates and, for that reason, was a mite disappointed. Frankly, I would've wanted the fight scenes to continue for a couple more issues before ending the whole thing so abruptly. All the brawls seemed to start and end in the same panel, which was the most disappointing thing of all. All that build-up to end in that way... just seemed like a shame, really...
From what I can tell the Ultimate Avengers can beat the Ultimate X-men, The only guys to look out for are Storm, Wolverine, and my homies, Iceman and Colossus. Cyclops would probably try to get even with Howlett (Wolverine) if he's still alive, so that could divide the team. But let's face it Colossus was ruling ass on Thor and Iron Man, the big Russian was intense.
But I think the Avengers would win for the mere fact that they are more tactical. The X-men have more power hitters, but the Avengers seem to have precision strikes down to the letter, when needed.

(I thought so. They have the stink of poop on them. Good thing they won't know what we're saying with these paranthesis around our setences. We could say anything and they wouldn't know. Hehehe.)
What do you expect? Marvel and DC always do that shit. For Example, the Mageddon arc in JLA. Everything looked pretty good, the public was interested in it, and whudda they do to end it? Every body's a superhero now! Then there's OWAW; that had potential to have some Crisis-type impact. Crap. Zero Tolerance. Crap. Genesis. Crap. The Age of Apocalypse. Megacrap. Why build a major storyarc if it isn't going to matter and/or flounder near the end?
Hopefully, The Return of the King will end with long-lasting repercussions.
I think when Jean gets back from carrying off that nuclear power plant she is going to want to have a word with the dude who left her boo for dead and tried to get into her panties for some sympathy sex.
