Marvel has just fired Jim Starlin from THANOS.
[eh?]
Here's the linx:

Jim Starlin s page
Comicon WTF were they thinkin ?
I have been a Starlin fan since I first read the Infinity Gauntlet way back then.
I know a lot of folks think he lost his magic touch or something, but I liked MU:The End and the first issue of Thanos was a very intriguing read IMO. Maybe the House of Ideas had the brilliant idea to use those Thanos pages for some more X-Men material or they didn't think it would meet their high standards of useless violence and a society that fears and loathes them...

Well, that makes it even easier for me to cut down on Marvel titles, with the demise of Thanos and the Crew, I'm down to only Ultimates and Captain Marvel.

Is this for real? Other than the current Nightcrawler arc in Uncanny this was the only Marvel title I pick up on a regular basis. I was getting into Thanos since Marvel: The End. He is a good character. Damn. [no no no]

Question:

Where was it ever said that the book was cancelled?

I've seen plenty of talk that Starlin's gone after issue #6, but the book hasn't been cancelled?

If I've missed the word "cancelled" anywhere, please, tell me. But I don't think I have.

Answer: good point. [worst. icon. ever.] Worst presumption ever on my part. [worst. icon. ever.]

...but can Marvel find another writer in 5 months who pitches a Thanos-story they would like to publish or will the series just go the way of Marvel Knights "Undead Punisher"?
My guess is they'll grab the money from Starlin fans up to issue 6, then, when fans demand the storyarc be properly finished, pretend the series never happened .
But who knows, maybe they'll surprise me...

You know "unforeseen circumstances" could also mean they hired Robs Liefeld or Marz to write it (shudder), I guess we'll find out soon.

Lookee, the pic of Thanos waving goodbye from atop a mount of skulls has been replaced by a Dreadstar ad!

The Pulse just revealed Keith Giffen is gonna be the new writer. Hm, so it's not cancelled. I think he'll do a good job on ol' craterface giffen his experience with intergalactic maniacs. This might actually be funny.
Interesting tidbit: Giffen started his career over at Marvel pencilling Wood God in Marvel Spotlight. -
