In recent days past, I have been reminded that some things are indeed worth fighting for. This realization has resulted from...a custom action figure. Does that strike me as peculiar? Not at all. Custom action figures are fast becoming a staple of action figure and fantasy fandom, as much a part of the culture as fan art. For their creators, customs represent something more: The expression of ideas and desires. In that regard, custom action figures are to comic books what sculpture is to art; A tactile manifestation of mood and expression. as well as a venue for ideas. For every misunderstood or poorly done figure, there is another which is properly constructed. In rare cases, there is a figure is absolutely brilliant in virtually every regard. I have had the good fortune of bearing witness to such a work. The above figure was created by Matt Cauley of Iron-Cow Productions. As with many Batman fans, Matt considers Neal Adams to be one of the Dark Knight's most influential artists. The cape's design was based on his desire to create a "silhouette" Batman, one who is enveloped by his cape and (usually)covered in shadow. He achieved the appearance through by utilizing vinyl as a material for the cape. The results of his work is an inventive homage to two comic legends. Neal Adams Batman has become so well received by action figure collectors and Batman enthusiasts alike, it has inspired two informal petitions on DC Comics' message boards for DC Direct to produce Neal Adams (Bronze Age), Modern Age and JLA Batman figures, respectively. Those who would like to see the figures become a reality post their ideas on their construction. quote: I took the SA down from its curio perch and again with this look it would be so easy to make one, very close to this one.. Longer ears.. Longer cape, smaller belt, a bit taller, leaner.. and a Neal Adams Batman is born..
Possibly sculpt the face so that the eyebrow part of the mask is a bit furrowed, making him very intense and stern looking.
I definitely would not want a cloth cape. They look inferior, and considering the majority of the figures have vinyl capes it would just look silly.
Slap on the correct emblem and give us TWO CAPES! I beg of you, I dont care if this has to be a deluxe figure, but there must be a cape than can be draped over his front, as well as one slung back.
Why not simply have a soft vinyl cape which draped over the shoulders but could be folded back to create the "slung back" look? IMHO, that would be cooler and a bit more practical than two capes.
How about this? Modern Age BATMAN: Black cowl, cape, gloves, trunks and boots, gray tights and tunic, oval-less bat symbol, bulky, brown utility belt with pouches.
JUSTICE LEAGUE BATMAN: Dark blue instead of black, same bat symbol, bulky yellow utility belt with pouches.
Though support for these figures continues to accrue, their production remains uncertain at best. As recently reported by American Dream Comics & Collectibles: quote: Word has been circling the net that DC Direct was planning on releasing a line based on Bronze Age and Modern Age Batman figures. We went straight to Adam Philips at DC Direct to see what we could find out about this latest rumor. According to Adam, there are no set plans for figures of this type. It is something they have thought about doing, but have no specific plans at this time.
This has only aroused further imploration from the petitioners, which now include the custom, figure's creator, Matt Cauley: quote: Okay, I admit it: this is a bit of a shameless plug, but certainly don't mean any harm by it. For those of you who don't know me, I do a lot of DC Direct styled customs, and I can't agree with you more. I'd love to see a Neal Adams Bats as much as a Bob Kane Bat-Man, among others.
Thanks again, and here's hoping DCD will make official versions in the near future!
In recent weeks, I have contributed my support to the petition threads. Despite the efforts of all involved, their rankings continue to diminish. As a fan of Neal Adams, Batman and action figures, I urge those who read this column to offer their support and encourage anyone else who would enjoy owning these figures to follow the same course of action.

I make custom heroclix. I love doing it too.
All those figures are done with style and care. Excel;lent figures...although 17.00 is still a bit much I'd rather buy a $45.00 mini statue....

Hey I like those little Stikfas thingies. Those are pretty cool.
And remember, however bad you think they look, they are probably a hundred times better then anything I could make.
