So, it seems like Legion writers traditionally have a problem coming up with new villains. Here's your chance! What sort of excitingly new villain would you like to see the Legion face?

I actually wouldn't mind seeing the old "one-of-us-is-a-traitor" storyline revisited -- as long as it's done well.

There are enough prickly relationships within the Legion that the idea of a traitor in the midst could lead to all sorts of interesting accusations and suspicions... plus, the characters are pretty well fleshed-out and three-dimensional, and many have been shown to have petty, less-than-heroic moments... developing interests counter to those of the Legion wouldn't necessarily be out-of-the-blue, as long as it's done well.

Something really alien would be nice, like an energy being (without the humanoid containment suit) or a collective being (which the Blight was I guess). The writers say fans have troubel identifying with non-humans, but who wants to identify with the bad guy anyways?

Someone wrote a fanfic Legion story about a guy who was just an incredibly smart embezzler, no powers just very clever. If the Legion is always taking on these mega-threats, maybe they're getting a little cocky and could severely underestimate an "average" bad guy.

Then there's the 31st century tax auditor, who arrives on Legion World one Monday morning....

I dunno -- The Progenitor's still pretty fresh in my mind and in terms of traitors, that was a big one. I think I'd rather see a Legionnaire have a genuine moment of weakness where they do something bad and get thrown out rather then be an out and out "traitor". It'd certainly be a harder decision for the teammates to make.

Remember when Brainy was on trial for using the Infinite Man against The Time Trapper? Brainy wasn't insane or evil, but there was a genuine disagreement whether or not he breached their code of ethics and we got to see how each Legionnaire voted.

I know, but I still think of the Progenitor as something entirely different from Jan -- he became that way really against his will, not because he wanted to be a power-hungry god. I still think it was crummy that most members of the Legion didn't acknowledge Jan's death as much as it did the others.

Still, I think the "moment of weakness" idea is a good one. Imra's conjuring of Tinya during the Lost episodes touched on this, but the consequences of that really haven't been felt as much (yet) as one would think they would be.

Whatever happened to Thunder? I wonder if some of her teammates would be resentful of the fact that she left in a moment of crisis for the team. (Plus, if she's from the future and can time travel to any point in the past, why hasn't she returned yet? Does this mean that she's never going to come back?)

Generally I'm not quite as down on ANY Legionnaire as I am about to be, but... to answer that last question... I sure hope the hell so. I don't know if I've ever had less interest in any comic book character than Thunder. (Well, maybe Spawn. Or Maggott.)

Still, if DnA could turn Monstress into someone I genuinely cared for by the end of Legion Lost, I suppose anything is possible.

As far as ideas for villains? Actually, Dirk wouldn't be bad as, if not a villain, a McCauleyish foil... at least he would be around!

I have to admit, though, I have an odd fondness for Thunder's I'm-from-so-far-in-the-future-that-fashion-is-completely-different costume, including the headband and, most of all, those distinctive yellow house slippers... which she apparently stole from Iron Fist's wardrobe...

I'd like to see villains from the millenium between our time and the Legion's. The Robotica arc touched on this briefly, with those robot things from the 25th century, back in Legionnaires # 78. Also, the preboot story, "Soljer's Private War," often cited here, featured a character from the 28th century. But what other dangerous contraptions from the past could be lying around? What other villains could be waiting to be awakened? What else can we learn about how mankind survived between the Age of Heroes and the advent of the Legion?

I'd like to see some good, old-fashioned larcenous crooks. Not a whole species of alien invaders. Just some dishonest people trying to make an unearned credit.

We could do with a few stories about super criminals, like Tarik the mute, Black Mace, maybe a few stories involving SilverSlasher, Lazon and that ilk, talking on individual legionnaires, or small groups.

I quite liked the idea of Magpie, being able to break into and steal from the Legion HQ.

Also it’s about time we had a good old fashioned bank robbery, just so I can see those wonderful interplanetary bank guard beasts again

Nanotech and "grey goo," a threat that someone unexpected -- Violet as a shrinker, again? -- could counter on a small scale.

Pirates of the Sargasso Nebula! Some really unabashed, vicious mercenaries might be able to corral technology that the Legionnaires might not have heard about.

Eccentrics are needed. Maybe not as much as Dr. Mayavale {urrrrrk} but demented notions of karma, retribution, personal score-settling.

The early reboot was ambitious with the White Triangle and racism. I wonder if that episode of relative editorial courage could be continued. Inter-species prejudice, not just differently cultured humanoids?

Simple thieves would be a refreshing change, though few would merit more than a backup-story-length treatment, and they just don't do backups any more ... but they should.

Internal planetary conspiracy would be intriguing. Just don't do it on Imsk again.

I suspect we might, F.C., but you know somethin'?

"The crash of the whole solar and stellar systems could only kill you once." -- Thomas Carlyle

Words to live by. Kim Jong Ill-in-the-head could soon be able to send a nuke to Los Angeles, as well. I'm not going to lose one particle of sleep over it. I'll be just as dead.

Interesting Carlyle quote. I read a lot of Carlyle in my misspent university years, but don't know this one. (Then again, it has been 27 years and I did lose a few brain cells to the demon drink....)

Ladies & Gentlemen, tune in next week when Cramer and Greybird discuss Goethe's Multiverse: Should it be Rebooted?

I like the idea of the Workforce being the LSH opposite. They are also out to help people, but for a fee. And, they don't have the ethical code. Sort of a Punisher-style team. Always causing problems for the Legion.

A Khundian Legion. You'd think the Khunds would make their own in response to the U.P. forming the LSH.

And how about the OTHER half of Evillo's Devil's Dozen? We only saw six in their one appearance.

Some of the Khund "legionnaires" featured in the later 5YL stories were interesting - especially Veilmist - but they were never developed further. Too bad.

A Khundian Legion is interesting. I like the idea that there are other heroic groups out there that are more local. Seeing one or two when the Legion visit various UP planets could be cool

Great pics, 9Jack9. You have a great touch for communicating the energy of these characters.

Too bad we don't see more of Wildfire.

The Legion foes tend to be either low powered or omnipotent. (Grimbor - Time Trapper) How about a foe that is a hybrid from Colu & Daxam? A combination of brains & brawn that would give the team a run for it's money.

Well, Brainy's nutso mom did say she might like to try for a daughter... I really hope we haven't seen the last of her. She was carted off to a psychiatric facility, but you've got to figure that someone with her smarts could break out of there.
