I was watching TDK earlier and I had a thought.
That plane Bruce hired to get him in and out of Hong Kong, didn't they say they were pirates?
The plane flew to Hong Kong on Auto-Pirate.

True, but the "Harvey is dead" statement comes directly from Aaron Eckhart.
Of course, I wouldn't put it past Nolan to have Eckhart and company start spreading that rumor so that his return in the next film is a surprise. Ekhart contradicts himself anyway. He states a fact that Dent will not be back, but then goes on to say that nothing has been decided about the movie. How can he say with any conviction that Dent will not be back? The only thing he would be able to say is he would not be back as Dent if he has already decided he does not want to return. Of course, as G-Man said, it could all be smoke and mirrors, to cover up any storylines from the next film, especially after all the stuff that they circulated prior to the last film. Like TDK, nothing will be certain until we all see it, so any speculation or rumour is pointless at this moment in time!

during a random read through of some pages here, there were two points brought up a few times that i wanted to discuss:
1) that the whole "hong kong" thing didn't need to happen
in addition to providing some very, very kickass scenes (diving off the skyscraper, the hookshot, etc) i think the driving purpose of this scene was to stress batman's heroic role not only to gotham, but the world. ironically two fold, it also served the purpose of proving to harvey dent how great / important batman was. it was an example of how harvey could use batman to solve a problem he couldn't solve himself -- the money was purposefully taken out of gotham, out of dent's reach.
2) the "timing" of the hookshot was a bit too perfect
first off, that seems a little movie nitpicky to me. but, even still, the timing works out. for starters, batman did wait by the broken window for a few pauses, as the beacon calling in the plane had its chance to ...well, beacon. and secondly, the entire thing was timed: before leaping into the building, batman shot the glass where he'd escape with timed explosives. he, presumably, gave himself enough time to hop in, grab the chinamen (who was the issue) and bounce.

so there. For point one, yes! It enforced the aspect that although Batman works with the law, he still works outside it. For point two. What people are also missing the point of, is this is based on fact and was actually done, so yes, of course the timing would be spot on as thats how it was planned. You wouldnt plan something like that and not have your timing spot on. Do people think that when anyone does some crazy stunt in real life, that they dont work things out so timing etc is perfect?

More importantly, it's part of the whole conceit of Batman (not to mention James Bond, Indiana Jones, Die Hard and about a million other action movies) that those "perfect timing" things work out when the plot requires it.

Published by Brian Jacks- With nearly a billion dollars in the bank since the film’s July release, Warner Bros. has announced that its box office juggernaut “The Dark Knight” will be hitting store shelves December 9 as a two-disc special edition, available in both standard DVD and high-definition Blu-ray (as well as a special “Batpod Edition”).
Trumpeting over three hours of bonus material, the collection will include a bevy of special features including two documentaries surrounding the film, the character and his gadgets, six episodes of “Gotham Tonight” (”Gotham Cable’s premiere news program”), Joker cards, concept and poster art, production stills, and more.
