Recently purchased a copy of the TRANSFORMERS THE MOVIE soundtrack CD recently released by Rhino Records, and was incredibly impressed by the quality. I've owned a vinyl of this soundtrack for what seems like an eternity (I bought it around the time of the films release, around 1986 or so, so do the math), and found myself in awe by the fact that the songs were clear and crisp, without the cracks, hisses and pops that come along as a given with vinyl.
Tracks to listen for are "Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way" and "Hunger" by Spectre General (a highly underrated big-hair band...
this soundtrack is full of 'em, what with Lion, a truly shitty one, doin' an excellent heavy metal take on the classic Transformers theme) and Weird Al's classic "Dare To Be Stupid". Stan Bush (a lesser known vocalist from the David Coverdale school of singers) cranks out the films two anthem-like songs "The Touch" and "Dare".
Interesting side note: According to the recent Rhino DVD release of TRANFORMERS: THE MOVIE Special Edition, Vince DiCola (a Tangerine Dream wannabe film scorer whose only other big credit (other than TTM) was "Rocky 4"'s synthesizer heavy score) remarked that Stan Bush and himself have recently formed a band that performs songs from the soundtrack of this flick at numerous Transformer conventions, the biggest bein' known as BOTCON. Now, if someone can just think of a way to get John Moschita (the voice of Blur from said flick...y'know, the Micro Machines guy) on backing vocals, then I would be interested in seein' these guys perform. Hell, for about a hundred bucks, they might even do a set in my backyard.
