Holiday shopping for hot items at a bargain price took on a new form this week as rumors flew on the Web about a 4GB iPhone to be available at Wal-Mart for $99. That phone was initially to be rolled out at a $399 price tag.

it's been fun so far. i really like the idea of the apps, and that is what eventually sold me on the iphone direction. above and beyond the screen (which is fun) and music and all that, the apps really make it possible for the phone to be continually updated and perfected. (in a nerd-similar note, stuff like facebook apps and wordpress apps are really in the same vein, giving smarter reg'lar folks out there the ability to develop cool new features for the mass audience)

i already have like 50 apps!

Here Wal-Mart does all the major carriers. Also I think the exclusivity was two years so it may be close to passing or passed.

I sort of hope you're right if, for no other reason, so all the Wal-Mart hating urbanite bohemians who are craving an iPhone are forced to make their deal with the "corporate devil."

The AT&T exclusive runs out in August 2012 so there is still a very long time before other carriers will see an iPhone.

Application add ons are pretty much the standard with all smartphones, and have been for years now.

Apple may have a new mobile phone to compete with--one that runs on its iPod Touch.

The MP3 player can be transformed into a mobile phone with the help of a free app from Internet telephone company Truphone. The new app allows users with a Wi-Fi connection to make and receive phone calls via voice over IP with other iPod Touch owners, users of the Google Talk's messaging service, and customers of Truphone's Internet telephone service. The company said it expects to add the ability to handle landline calls.

The app creates a virtual keyboard on second-generation iPod Touchs to dial calls and requires the addition of a headset and microphone.

However, Apple doesn't appear to be too threatened by Truphone; the application is available for free download at Apple's App Store.

While the app could work with any device with Wi-Fi access, the company said it has decided to focus on devices with connections to an apps store.

"We've decided to focus on devices that are Wi-Fi-enabled and have an apps store," Truphone CEO Geraldine Wilson told the BBC. "For the consumer, there has to be an easy way of downloading an application."

Other planned features include the ability to phone and IM Skype and MSN VoIP users, and to check and set Twitter and Facebook.

I have more applications available for my phone than I know what to use.
It came with a variation of microsoft office, that allows me to view word and excel files, and for a small fee, you can even edit or create them as well.

Then theres the N-gage application, that allows you to play N-gage games (unsurprisingly).
The app is free, but you have to buy the games.

The youtube application is free.

personal computers, or "PCs", and modern day telephones might look similar, what with all their fancy buttons and such, but they aren't the same. for example, a lot of the new telephones are not connected by any cord and can be brought with you anywhere you go. these "cellular" phones offer many features that computers do, such as "electronic mail." however, unlike modern day computers, cellular phones can often carry with them various charges for usage by ma bell and the rest of the telephone posse. my goal is to avoid these charges through the proper cellular phone settings, and access electronic mail for free.
