You know, if you explain it that way, LOST sucks.

the recaps make me feel formerly-impossibly nerdier for following the show.

was the runway on island two that the plane landed at the thing kate/sawyer were building a few seasons ago when they were captured by the others?

Yes, they said so on the podcast.

What do you want to bet it was a production crew member, the director hoped no one would notice him and now the producers are saying "oh shit, now we have to write an explanation for this"?

also, im wondering if there's a connection between only jack, sawyer, kate, and hurley being in the dharma photo and those same 4 being on ben's "list" that he wanted michael to collect. jin, sayid, and sun were noticeably absent from both.

I really want to go back and watch the first couple seasons again. Just to see all the stuff like this.

i've been DVR'ing (verb form!) the "lost rewind" stuff on abc, saturday nights. its two back-to-back episodes every week. right now they're towards the beginning of season three, but i think they are only going through season three before they repeat again.

the negative about reliving the series is much of the early part is very slow. season 2 and 3 is really 15 episodes stretched out to be 40. nothing happens for such very long stretches of time between them pushing the 108 button and later, kate, jack, and sawyer being captured.

the positive is it's cool to see how much of the storyline really holds up through the seasons. while i do think they're making up a good amount (if not most) of the details as they go along, the really basic elements of the plot take form very early on -- smoke monster in episode one, hatch in like episode 6, etc.

spotting stuff, like ben's list and comparing it to the dharma photo little ben clearly must have seen, is great.

another bit i remembered because of the replays; radsinski, the crazy guy that wanted to shoot sayid, is also the name of clancy brown's partner that painted all the crazy shit on the hatch door before desmond got there.

which also just reminded me that clancy brown's character used a different name on the island than when he was in the army with sayid -- perhaps a tie in to sawyer's name change.

I never paid that much attention to the old Dharma and others stuff. I didn't know it was going to be brought back. That's the stuff I want to see again.

Yeah, I think the producers have admitted that and that it was due to not knowing how ABC expected them to run. They didn't have a clear end date in sight and were afraid to move to quickly and then run out of story.

I had a feeling the list was gonna be explained this season due to time travel.

Another plot point that was planted very early on was Jack's dad being alive on the island. Jack saw him in an early episode.

I think they have a broad story mapped out, with important plot points that need to be reached at the end of each season. How they get there and what happens in between, they improvise.

btw, where the fuck are the other like 80 cast members from the original few seasons? the ones that should be on the island still in 2007. rose and bernard and all those folks. has that been discussed?

Not yet. Most of the past few eps have dealt with Jack and company in the past. I assume that Locke, et al, will be looking into this issue in the near future.

not locke, im talking about all the people who haven't been in this season, at all -- if 40 or so people were camped out on the beach, we're now only dealing with like 6 of them. where are the others like the black chick and mr. dewitt from growing pains?

They were all included during the first time jumps (remember they went back to the beach and couldn't find their stuff), then we sorta lost tracks of them. In theory they should be in the same time period as Sawyer and the other guys, but, you know, fuck it. If they say they somehow ended up back in the present, I'm not gonna complain.

I understood that. I was stating my suspicion that they're in the same time zone as Locke and we are going to find out what happened to them at the same time he, Jin and Ben do.




Not necessarily. Just because they're jumping doesn't mean they'd end up in the same era. It's possible that their encounter with Sawyer and company was just a result of them coincidentally jumping to the same time once or twice. After all, "team Jack" and "team Locke" were both on the same plane but ended up on the island thirty years apart. So obviously the time jumps might not affect everyone uniformly.

Still on the main island, presumably on the beach. That is other than the ones like Frogurt who got flaming arrows shot into their head.

There's an oft-repeated rumor or theory, in fact, that Rose and Bernard got thrown to the past and were the "Adam and Eve" skeletons found in the cave early on in the series.

- Apparently, an older version of Ethan's mom, Amy (or Amelia), visits Juliet at the beginning of Season 3. Bobert, do you remember that? What does she say?
- Harper (um, whoever that is) tells Juliet that Ben is obsessed with her because "you look like her". "Her" is actually Juliet herself, who young Ben met as a boy.

I remember that one now. I thought ben was saying he looked like his mother.

That's what they wanted us to think at the time.

i don't remember the specifics, but i know there was an older woman at the book club meeting in juliet's darma house. whether or not she's the same "amy", i dunno, but now that you mention it, she did pass comment on ethan not doing a good enough job as a plumber (which sounds naggingly / mommish)

one question that came up in a conversation this weekend... during... something much cooler than talking about a weird scifi show, of course... where was ben during the plane crash?

in the episode from a few weeks ago that first showed the time flash/crash, ben was talking to jack in the back of the plane when he said he'd give jack some privacy, then left. it was when he left that the plane went all wonky. in the episode from this week, we saw the crash more so from the pilot's perspective, but also saw glimpses of the island folk and the rest of the first class, with no sign of ben.

ben only later appeared after the crash, completely unharmed and unnerved, when talking to sun and frank.

did he maybe have something to do with the crash, knowing that the flash would bring back the rest of the group? (and forcibly countering his previous statement that the island would not allow him to return?)

Ok, So Ben can't be dead, because Ben grew up, he has to survive because he did survive.

It's a paradox.
