"The Constant" and Desmond reuniting with Penny should have been the end of their arc. If she's dead that would really shit on one of the best eps of the series.
It would be a nice surprise if they gave them a happy ending. Can't say I cared much for Desmond until they developed his relationship with Penny.
in desmond's first "time travel" incident, desmond tells elloise that he's going to spend his life together with penny.
she replies, "no, you're not"
she goes on to tell him that it might not be what he chooses, but rather what his path is. so, like, a pre-determined fate. which, if that is what's steering the show, could be why some people are seemingly unable to die (richard alpert, eye patch guy, locke, ben, michael, etc). and maybe even something like the smoke monster exists just to make sure everything lives up to what its fate is sposda be.
