We need more ben and locke episodes. Desmond is a total bad ass. This is what happens when they focus on entertaining characters.

The interlude aboard the freighter last season where Desmond and Sayid were engaged in all sorts of badassery was one of the best parts of the season.

ben just blowing away caesar with calculated ease was pretty damn awesome.

s'more egyptian / horus connections from this episode through out the temple, and a bit more clarification on the smoke monster ("the judge judy monster?").

i thought the previous two episodes were kinda slow in comparison to the entire season, but last night was awesome.

So... the new crash survivors -- Ilana and her compadres -- are gonna be the new villains?

And what's up with the Egyptian-like hieroglyphics in the temple? Was the island founded by Egyptians, or was it founded by a group obsessed with all things Egyptian (like the Dharma Initiative was obsessed with Buddhism)?

She's either working for Ben or someone that works for Ben.

well, we've seen that giant statue ...thing, that looked like the standard dog-faced egyptian god. then there's the theories that "horace", the current others leader, is a play on words for "horus". the smoke monster temple had some hieroglyphics, as did the 108 countdown clock when it hit 0. the mayor from the dark knight also looks creepy and egyptian.

so, essentially, no one knows what the fuck is going on.

I think SOMEONE in the plane must be working for Widmore. That's why he wanted to help Locke get back to the island: he wants to find out where it is now. I thought it was Cesar, but it looks like he's dead. So maybe it's the cop girl and that other guy.

YAY! I hated that guy. It took evil Ben to do it,but it got done.

It was cool that Ben saved crazy French woman and her baby. Just when you think Ben is totally evil he does something good like that.

Where did Guyliner's group come from and why re they always fighting with the Dharma group? Probably an episode I missed that explains all that.

bah, i meant "current" in the "shows we're watching now" type way. the dharma of 1974/1977. the only other eras in which we've seen horace are when ben was born (circa 1964?) and when locke saw ghost-horace on the island (in 2004)



the bounty hunter chick was hired by family of the man sayid shot on the golf course, and because sayid was hunting widmore's guys, there could be a connection there. and ben's whereabouts during the second plane crash are still unaccounted for, in a potential lost-like plot twist.

no episode really explains it.

that group, the others / hostiles / natives, has just been on the island for a long time. since at least the 50s, theoretically hundreds of years earlier. when dharma moved in around 1965 or whatever, they tried to take over, and the natives fought back. they always seem willing to set up a truce or co-existence with visitors to their island, but y'can't break their rules, or they go all whispery on you, with electrocuting darts. yeah.

The natives are from the black rock freighter or whatever it was called. They've never said when it came to the island.

it's possible that some are from the black rock, or maybe even the originals, but many from the group are not. there are some theories, especially now, that they've been there way back into egyptian times. we also know that richard has recruited a number of them from various regions abroad, like juliet.

tom is from somewhere in the US, the indestructible eyepatch guy was from somewhere in the soviet union, widmore obviously from scottland, ethan and ben were from dharma, etc. they're a nice little UN of hostiles.

this probably creeped me out more than any other lost storylines

Fuck yes! No doubt, man. I could watch an entire SERIES of Ben Linus just being the badass Michael Emerson makes him. That guy is awesome.

But, the awesome award is split this week with Desmond. Like Knut, I laughed my ass off when he tore Ben to pieces with one arm. That was fantastic and totally unexpected. I really didn't think Penny was going to live. I'm glad she did, though. I doubt that's the last we see of Desmond, however. Maybe?

As for the "disease" that Desmond and The Kurgan were worried about, I'm pretty sure that was something to do with the nerve gas that Ben used to kill Dharma. Those guys in the stations probably assumed it had something to do with the island, and started using the hazmats all the time. Remember, Clancy Brown was waiting for someone to relieve him, and used the disease excuse to keep Desmond pushing the buttons.

The button-pushing station was some kind of electromagnetic field experiment thing that was attached to the island, and when it wasn't released on schedule (a.k.a. Locke stopped pushing the button) the station imploded.

The "infection" that French Lady was talking about screwed her husband and his crew, that as something to do with the Smoke Monster.

The Smoke Monster has nothing to do with Dharma at all. It seems to be part of the island (defense mechanism?), and The Others (whether from the Black Rock or not) seem to "worship" it perhaps? It lives under their temple (not that Ben knew that), so I'm feeling it has some connection to whatever it is they worship or the reason for the temple's existence.

"What lies in the shadow of the statue?" I would guess the Bounty Hunter from ROME and her guy are part of Widmore's group, backtracking against Ben. Why they asked that question and what it means, I have no idea. Maybe it's the "Temple" that lies in the shadow of the statue? Maybe a spaceship lies in the shadow of the statue? Maybe she and her posse are part of an entirely new contingent that's just entered the fray?

What is the Smoke Monster?

Who is Richard "Guyliner" Alpert and why doesn't he age (whereas the rest of his group does)?

Speaking of Widmore....am I to understand that he came to the island with an army contingent? I can't remember. I remember the h-bomb the army brought with them, but it seems that Richard's group was in control of that one, right? So, was that army group killed and their stuff taken by The Others? Was Widmore always an Other, or did he come with the military?

And is it me, or are we seeing a slight Christian religion analogue?

I'm sure that's on purpose, as are the rest of the religious amalgams we've seen on this series.


I'm still of my original Season One mind that the island is the original, Christian "Garden of Eden", the Smoke Monster being the Angel with the Flaming Sword that guards the Gate of paradise. I could be wrong, but it fits. As do a couple of other things, of course.

Man, I wish Jeph Loeb had never been part of this show. This season feels as exciting as the first one. Thank god his mediocrity has been removed from the show. Go Brian K. Vaughn (with his well-deserved "Y: The Last Man" plug a few episodes back)...

Hurley was reading one of the trades in the airport a few episodes back. The moment the scene came up, it was a 'Y' cover, which slowly lowered to show Hurley reading it...
