I used to read wrestling magazines like crazy when I was a kid so I read about him well before I saw him wrestle. The way the magazines portrayed him he was a wrestling god, so i think that influenced my perception even when i did see him wrestle.
Those magazines were hard as fuck to get over here but when I saw them I would pick them up - it's how I followed NWA at the time.
I used to love these magazine because of the old photos and history. This was at the time the WWF didn't acknowledge anything more then a few months old.
It was cool to learn where people had wrestled before - I remember Dusty Rhodes joing the WWF, everyone I went to school thought he was some fatass gaylord until I showed photos from his NWA days of him bleeding all over the shop.
Superstar at the time I was watching was some old due shuffling to the ring - to see the pics in his heyday _ I couldn;t believe it was the same man!
