I don't think the drug use was an issue at that time, mainly because I believe they were still legal and the side effects were not well known back then.
I was just thinking that some one so jacked up might be having extreme mood swings, hence taking the belt off of him - even though they may not have known of the side effects, they just thought he was an arsehole!
I guess we will never know because none of us were there to see how over he was!
