Today it's been Giles, Giles, & Fripp's _The Brondesbury Tapes_, some 1968 recordings by the band that would become King Crimson.
I'm thinking I'll go for Aretha Franklin's _Lady Soul_ next.

Tracks from the KEITH PROWSE MUSIC Library-- stock music recorded on the cheap for use by even cheaper film & TV producers to have SOMETHING to put on their soundtracks. Among the KPM artists: Bill Martin & Phil Coulter, David Lindup, Johnny Pearson, Alan Hawkshaw, Keith Mansfield and Syd Dale-- all masters of modern big band jazz! And in case anyone's wondering, all this stuff I'm playing was used on the 1968 Ralph Bakshi-Gray Morrow / Krantz Films version of SPIDER-MAN! ![[cool]](images/icons/cool.gif)

THE BIG BANDS OF THE THIRTIES, a 1970 album by Enoch Light & The Light Brigade. Enoch Light had been a big band leader from the 1930's-up, later a record label owner AND a pioneering recording engineer who specialized in S T E R E O before it became common. In 1970 he put together a new "big band" with members from the most famous bands of the 30s & 40s, re-recording all their best hits with 30 years + experience behind them and state-of-the-art recording technology. Some have looked at me funny when I say HIS version of "In The Mood" totally blows away Glenn Miller's-- but it just DOES!

Sinatra/Martin/Davis Jr.: The Rat Pack Live At The Sands .
Songs and jokes and banter. Some homophobia, some racism (from ALL sides), some sexism. But it's all funny as hell and the songs are damn good.

I love this thread.
Today it's been Johnny Cash at San Quentin.
Also a CD comp from MOJO magazine featuring garage rock: The Sonics, The Electric Prunes, Paul Revere & The Raiders, etc.

That MOJO CD is great. She (Track 12) is awesome. There's a massive Doors influence on that track - it sounds just like Ray Manzarek playing keyboards (even though it isn't).
I hope the rest of their album sounds like that.

Me too, since I've gotta find it now.
Best thing about the CD is that it's only Vol. 1. Hopefully the next will be just as good.

New Order is very good for getting totally wasted on bourbon.
Last weekend I listened to Ministry of Sound's Chill-Out 2002 compilation. Haven't listened to anything since.

Listening to Graves: Web of Dharma. A really good, short-lived band from former Misfits (Generation 2) singer Michale Graves. They existed barely a year, and luckily I got to see them at one of their few live performances. Great stuff.

Lessee....
Album-wise, Sabbath's "We Sold Our Soul For Rock And Roll" has gotten more than one spin from me lately.
Otherwise, it's been random songs, like Dan Seals & John Ford Coley's "Love Is The Answer", Seatrain's "Creeping Midnignh", Pink Floyd's "Time" and "Comfortably Numb", Seals and Crofts' "Summer Breeze", and Hank III's "Hang On.
