Here's a list of 14 amusing yet cringe-worthy "Bidenisms" made during the vice president's more recent political career.
  • -- On March 13, 2009, Biden addressed a former Senate colleague by saying, "An hour late, oh give me a f**king break," after he arrived on Amtrak at Union Station in Washington, D.C. The vice president's expletive was caught on a live microphone.

-- During a Feb. 25, 2009, interview on CBS' "Early Show," Biden encouraged viewers to visit a government-run Web site that tracks stimulus spending. When asked for the site's web address, Biden could not remember the site's "number."

"You know, I'm embarrassed. Do you know the Web site number?" he asked an aide standing out of view. "I should have it in front of me and I don't. I'm actually embarrassed."

-- At a Jan. 30, 2009, swearing-in ceremony of senior White House staff, Biden mocked Chief Justice John Roberts for his presidential oath blunder on Inauguration Day.

"Am I doing this again?" Biden said, after Obama asked him to administer the oath. When Biden was told the swearing-in was for senior staff -- and not cabinet members -- the vice president quipped, "My memory is not as good as Justice Roberts," prompting a stern nudge from Obama.

-- On Inauguration Day, Jan. 20 2009, Biden misspoke when he told a cheering crowd of supporters, "Jill and I had the great honor of standing on that stage, looking across at one of the great justices, Justice Stewart." Justice John Paul Stevens -- not Stewart -- swore Biden in as vice president.

-- When criticizing former GOP nominee John McCain in Athens, Ohio, on Oct. 15, 2008, Biden said, "Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs."

-- In a Sept. 22, 2008, CBS interview, Biden misspoke when he said Franklin D. Roosevelt was president when the stock market crashed in 1929.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened," he said. Herbert Hoover -- not Roosevelt -- was president in 1929, and television had not yet been invented in 1929.

-- During a Sept. 12, 2008, speech in Columbia, Mo., Biden called for Missouri State Sen. Chuck Graham, who is wheelchair-bound, to "stand up."

"Oh, God love ya," Biden said, after realizing his mistake. "What am I talking about?"

-- At a Sept. 10, 2008, town hall meeting in Nashua, N.H., Biden said, "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me."

-- Biden mistakenly referred to Alaska governor Sarah Palin as the "lieutenant governor" of her state during a town hall meeting on Sept. 4, 2008 at George Mason University in Manassas, Va.

"I heard a very, by the way I mean this sincerely, a very strong and a very good political speech from a lieutenant governor of Alaska who I think is going to be very formidable, very formidable not only in the campaign but in the debate," Biden said.

-- Biden said he was running for president -- not vice president -- during a Sept. 1, 2008, roundtable discussion in Scranton, Pa.

"Today is the moment for me as a United States senator running for president to put aside the national politics and focus on what's happening down there," Biden said.

-- Biden referred to John McCain as "George" during his vice presidential acceptance speech on Aug. 27, 2008, at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Co. "Freudian slip, folks, Freudian slip," he explained.

-- Biden confused army brigades with battalions when speaking about Obama's plan for sending troops to Afghanistan.

"Or should we trust Barack Obama, who more than a year ago called for sending two additional combat brigades to Afghanistan?"

-- During his first campaign rally with Obama as his vice presidential running mate on Aug. 23, 2008, Biden introduced Obama by saying, "A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States -- Barack America!"

-- On Jan. 31, 2007 -- the day Biden announced his presidential bid -- the Delaware Senator was roundly criticized for calling Obama "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."

Questioning Joe Biden’s ‘Corny’ Patriotism
  • Yesterday, Independence Day, Vice President Joe Biden attended a naturalization ceremony at Camp Victory in Baghdad, Iraq. During the ceremony 237 U.S. servicemen from 59 countries, including Iraq, were sworn in as citizens of the United States of America. At the conclusion of this solemn, undoubtedly moving and inspirational occasion, and in the presence of his own son Beau (currently serving in the 261st Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, Delaware Army National Guard), this is what the Vice President of the United States had to say:

“As corny as it sounds,” he told the troops, “Damn, I’m proud to be an American!”

if there’s one person, in one scenario, who should never, ever feel that it’s corny to be proud to be an American, it would be:
    • - The Vice President of the United States.
      - Surrounded by hundreds of U.S. servicemen and women.
      - Who have just become U.S. citizens.
      - In a war zone.
      - On Independence Day.
      - You stupid moron, you.

Joe Biden Visits the Ukraine: "I cannot believe that a Frenchman visiting Kiev went back home and told his colleagues he discovered something and didn't say he discovered the most beautiful women in the world. That's my observation... It's certain you have so many beautiful women."

Having been a Senator for over thirty years (and, basically, his own boss), Biden can't handle trying to parrot--and keep straight in his head--all the various Obama lies talking points.

The Real Straight Talk Express? Biden's Candor a Persistent Challenge for Obama:
  • Vice President Biden often gets labeled as a gaffe machine. But he's more like the Democrats' version of the Straight Talk Express.

Love him or leave him, the man speaks his mind.

The Obama administration this week was compelled, once again, to explain and defend the vice president after he made some tough comments about Russia.

Biden had suggested in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that Russia would have no choice but to cooperate with the United States because it is on the brink of sharp decline.

After a rebuke from the Kremlin, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton walked back the remarks. On Monday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs still defended Biden as an "enormous asset" to the administration.

As the vice president lives up to his campaign trail persona by adding more foreign policy tasks to his portfolio, the administration can reasonably expect more "straight talk" on the world stage, which could continue to lead to a clash of styles with Clinton and President Obama.

The problem with Biden's commentary on the Russians, in which he called their economy "withering" and their banking sector collapsing, was not necessarily that it was off the mark. The problem was it was too true, analysts said.

"He is more right than not in terms of his geopolitical analysis," Peter Feaver, a Duke University professor and former National Security Council adviser, wrote on the Foreign Policy magazine Web site, calling Biden's interviews "among the most interesting ones out there."

Feaver backed up Biden's Russia assessment in an article titled, "Biden Commits a Truth About Russia."

But blunt Biden, in committing a truth about Russia, ran afoul of his own advice, which he gave in the very same interview with the Journal.

"It is never smart to embarrass an individual or a country when they're dealing with significant loss of face," Biden said. "My dad used to put it another way: Never put another man in a corner where the only way out is over you."

After the article was published -- "withering" quote and all -- Russia seemed to be the man in the corner.

Sergei Prikhodko, an aide to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, was quoted in the Interfax news agency calling Biden's remarks perplexing.

"The U.S. vice president's intention to tie this serious work (on cutting nuclear weapons stockpiles) to economic reasons rather than to the responsibility that Russia and the U.S. bear to the international community are absolutely incomprehensible," Prikhodko said.

Democratic consultant Tara Dowdell said the issue with Biden is not his experience or know-how, which she described as vast, but his candor -- it's akin to the "straight talk" that Sen. John McCain used to define his campaigns but its delivery often get Biden into trouble.

"You know what you get when you get Joe Biden," she told FOX News. "I think he's pretty candid. I think a lot of the stuff he says is actually what he's thinking. In politics, unfortunately you can't always say what you're thinking."

In the last several months alone, Biden has caused problems for the administration by doing just that.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/11/joe-biden-dick-cheney-obama.html

 Quote:
In a cover profile with posed photos and everything (highly coveted in places called Washington), the New York Times Magazine reports that, after only 321 days in office, Joe Biden, who was a senator when Barack Obama was only a sixth-grader, has already possibly become the second-most-powerful vice president in the nation's entire 85,469-day history.

You might be wondering who was the most powerful vice president in U.S. history.

No, not Hannibal Hamlin.

We hesitate to publish the name of the most powerful vice president in American history because Biden called him the most dangerous VP in American history and commenters here get so excited about him, one way or another, even though he's related to Obama.

Also, as is well-known by conspiracy theorists (you know who you are), since our corporate parent is a charter member of the MSM, we are (secretly) prohibited from saying anything positive about Hamlin's Grand Old Party or anything even slightly mocking about the current Democratic administration that has so successfully turned the U.S. economy around so quickly. And all, amazingly, without incurring new deficits or lobbyists. And only a few hundred billion in new taxes and cuts.

So we'll just say that Biden is the most powerful vice president in the last 321 days. You figure it out.

The New York Times Magazine, not widely known for understated satire, is only the latest of....

...several major media outlets to publish its jolting Joe-Biden-is-really-more-powerful-than-it-seems-behind-the-scenes-helping-this-inexperienced-president discovery, all with the less-than-reluctant assistance of Biden's staff. (And one can only guess what the reaction is among the loyalists surrounding Obama.)

The article lists a number of areas where Biden has become supremo in the no-longer-fledgling Obama administration.
Democrat Vice president Joe Biden either getting on or off of Air Force Two

For example, foreign affairs. Forget Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, an also-ran who also ran against Obama. Biden's the go-to guy for Obama on foreign policy and is charged with finally fixing Iraq.

Everyone remembers Biden opposing the 2007 troop surge and his bang-off pronouncement that Gen. David Petraeus' counterinsurgency strategy was "dead flat wrong."

Alas, that Biden pronouncement itself turned out to be dead flat wrong. (Though you didn't read that here.)

But no less an authority than Biden himself has proclaimed that Biden knows more about foreign policy than anyone else in last year's field of Democratic contenders. (See the N.Y. newspaper article here.) The article states: "Biden has a deep knowledge of, and an intuitive feel for, people and places still new to the president."

As one result, Biden has been dispatched to such international flash points as Herzegovina to swear his boss knows where they are and to talk about U.S. interests, thus surely maintaining civil calm.

According to the article, while Obama was otherwise occupied in his summer-long hustle for healthcare, Biden was dispatched to Iraq for a July 4 photo op with the troops that produced a particularly good picture that much pleased the White House. It had Biden within an ethnically and racially balanced gathering of troops beneath a big U.S. flag. Well worth the long trip.

According to the article, according to an unidentified VP aide, Biden and Obama were not all that close on the Foreign Relations Committee, in part because Biden resented all the attention the upstart Illinois freshman got after his few months in that exclusive Legislature. Remember during the Democratic primary campaign Biden portraying his young competitor as a neophyte?

Did we mention Obama was only 11 when Biden was already a senator? In fact, Biden still works out in the gym over there, where he's Obama's main Senate envoy on such things as healthcare and convincing alleged Republican Arlen Specter to turn. And, btw, Biden thinks his Senate office was much nicer than the VP's suite.

According to the article, the two has-been senators now running the chief executive's house still aren't all that close, even socially, where Biden favors his Wilmington weekends over hanging around D.C. with other elites. Although, besides Iraq and recently Afghanistan, Obama has turned to Biden to mediate political disputes within the seemingly seamless Obama administration.

We all recall how Obama put Biden in charge of revitalizing the American economy with the Revitalization Act given them by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who, don't forget, is right behind Biden in presidential succession.

That revitalization has worked out so well that, thanks to $787 billion in stimulus money (much of it not yet spent), unemployment has only exploded from about 8% to more than 10%. Without Biden, it probably might be -- what? -- 28%-29% by now.

Additionally, Pennsylvania native Biden has learned the Chicago way well enough to drive reported stimulus spending and job creation in dozens of congressional districts that don't even exist.

According to the article, Biden is also successfully reining in his gaffe-prone garrulity.

All of which, frankly, doesn't leave much for Obama to do, except the Oval Office photo ops, a speech here and there, bows around Asia, pardoning turkeys and lots of ceremonial proclamations. Fundraising, of course. And changing the angry tone of the nation's capital. The president's next speech is Tuesday. On Afghanistan. His latest new strategy for the conflict he calls "a war of necessity."

As everyone recalls, the influential Biden was an early, ardent advocate of long-term nation-building in Afghanistan, where the war is now into its ninth year with American fatalities rising to one every 14 hours or so and poll support waning.

So, less than a year away from congressional midterm elections, forget about any cut-and-run exit talk from the Democratic president, who's listening so closely to Biden apparently. Look for cross-country, poppyroots-level reconstruction to be a major part of Obama's new stick-it-out Afghan strategic package.

Or not.

That was as playful and funny as it was informative. And from the liberal media, of all places!

Sounds like the "most powerful Vice President in 321 days", for all his power, is clueless enough to walk in front of a bus.

Or get thrown under one.

Boy, how would you like to be Beau Biden this morning?
  • G. Terry Madonna, director of the Floyd Institute's Center for Politics and Public Affairs at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., said the Brown victory could give Biden serious pause.

"That would cause Biden to have real, real second thoughts about jumping into a race like this,'' said Madonna, who earned his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Delaware. While Delaware Democrats have a 17-percentage-point registration edge over Republicans, the state is not nearly as Democratic as Massachusetts and Castle is a popular politician who has fashioned a reputation as a moderate.

Biden Predicts Large-Scale Terror Attack on U.S. 'Unlikely': Top intelligence officials told congressional lawmakers early this month that the terror network can be expected to try another attack in the next three to six months. But Biden, interviewed on CNN, downplayed the risk.

Why shouldn't we trust Joe? Look at his track record. He said Iran was not a threat and that swine flu would kill us all. The man's a regular seer.

Biden: 'It's Easy Being Vice President'
  • Biden was heard at Thursday's health care summit telling one lawmaker, "It's easy being vice president. You don't have to do anything."

The comment was made shortly before the summit resumed for the afternoon. Biden was off-camera but the comment was caught on one of the network microphones in the room.

The lawmaker played along with Biden's remark saying, "It's like being the grandpa and not the parent," to which the VP responded, "Yeah, that's it!"

Really though, I don't fault Biden for this.

We need more of that in this country. We've (well, not me) have become a country of pansy-asses.

If the manager was acting like a douche, Biden has the right to call him out on it.

How is making a joke (paraphrase) "hey the ice cream's free, but how about a tax cut" acting like a douche?

Who doesn't want a tax cut?

If Biden wasn't the one being a douche he would have said "Obama's going to give the middle class a tax cut."

Sure it's a lie but at least it's not jumping down a working guy's throat for saying something harmless

I thought your #1 rule G-man was that when in a mens room you tap your foot. You'll have to give a full listing some day.
