I watched the new Hulk movie last night.

It was way better than I envisioned. It was pretty good. Not Iron Man or Dark Knight good, but Daredevil good. The story was fast and the action good. The fights weren't bad considering they were CG. Norton was decent as Banner, which is a compliment because all of his previous work is shit.

I still say they should have cast a muscle guy to be the Hulk, it worked well in the original series on a lower budget. In Iron Man they successfully intertwined CG and model/props/people, and it worked great. I could have done without Liv Tyler, I'm not really sure what she brings to any movie.

I'm pretty much in agreement. It wasn't the best. But, then again, it was miles better than the first one. I also like Tim Roth and William Hurt, as well...

Marvel confirms they will hire new 'Hulk' for 'The Avengers'.

Ouch:
  • "We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble,... We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."

the way they said it really implies that Norton was cut out because he's a prima donna.

As noted here Marvel and Norton apparently clashed over a lot of aspects of the Hulk's production. It sounds like, for whatever reason, they never smoothed over those differences.

I've heard that Norton really is a prima donna. But, like Bale, he gets his way most of the time because he's bankable and has talent.

Is Norton really that bankable?
Not being funny, but I dont know that many people who go to see a film just because he is in it.
Bale, yes, I agree with you on, and that Norton is a good actor. I just dont think he is a sellable name of the same calibre of Bale.

Actually, I'm not so sure. I just assumed he's bankable because of the cult following Fight Club has.

I think Edward Norton gets final cut, so I can see why Marvel wouldn't want him on Avengers.

It's possible that they're not even at war. Maybe Marvel said, "Okay, here's what we want to do." And Norton said, "Um, actually, I know I said I would do it, but some stuff came up and now I'd rather not." And then Marvel said, "Oh. Well, that's too bad, but we totally understand, Ed." And then they all sat down and shared a pot of tea and some biscuits, and everyone was friends.

Not everything has to be a huge deal.

Or, alternatively, maybe Norton took a sledgehammer to the producer's puppy, and they put a bounty on his head as he fled to Bogota. Who the hell can say at this point.

 Quote:
A rep for Norton responded to the statement to Hitfix on Sunday, calling it "purposefully misleading" and claiming that his client had been in discussions to return to the role.

"This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light," the rep told the site. "Here are the facts: two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in 'The Avengers.' He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at [Comic-Con] and make it the event of the convention. When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with [director] Joss Whedon to discuss the project. Edward and Joss had a very good meeting (confirmed by Feige to me) at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast."

However, the rep further claimed, the talks fell apart last week.

"Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith," he told Hitfix. "This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings... We know a lot of fans have voiced their public disappointment with this result, but this is no excuse for Feige's mean spirited, accusatory comments. Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his. Feige's statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory. Mr. Norton talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel's fans."

And fuck!

I knew they couldn't make it all the way to The Avengers with the original actors. It was a pipe dream as long as they didn't have it in ink.

Sounds to me it was like:

  • Marvel: "Here's some lowball offer."

Ed: "Yeah...I see you're paying RDJr a bit more. I'm a big star, too. Can I have that?"

    Marvel: "Oh. Right. Uhhh..."

Ed: "Oh, and my usual need for creative semi-control stands. Of course."

Marvel: "Of course. It's just that....well. We can't afford that, and there's no WAY you're involved in the final cut."

    Ed: "Oh. I see. Okay."

Marvel: "Right, sorry. See where Terrence Howard is over there? In the corner?"

    Ed: "Um, yeah?"

Marvel: "Right. Okay, could you just go over and stand there for a bit? Thanks. really."

Kevin Feige: "Hey comic nerds, looks like Ed Norton doesn't care enough about COMIC BOOKS to relinquish his normal professional standards. If Avengers lacks a little extra 'oomph!' because we hired Nic Cage to take over as Banner, it's because Ed Norton is making fun of your love of comic book continuity! Let's judge him now!"

    Ed: "....What?! Fuck you."

Since when was Norton one of the originals?
He was a replacement already.

As has already been said anyway, Downey hasnt committed to it either, so to merely assume its all about lowballing is a bit presumptuous.
Plus, its not like an actors agent has never made up a story before now is it.

Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it you better gain weight
You better hit bull's eye the kid don't play
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

CHORUS
Ice ice baby vanillla (x4)

Now that the party is jumping
With the bass kicked in and the vegas are pumpin'
Quick to the point to the point no faking
I'm cooking MC's like a pound of bacon
Burning them if you ain't quick and nimble
I go crazy when I hear a cymbal
And a hi-hat with a souped up tempo
I'm on a roll and it's time to go solo
Rollin' in my 5.0
With my rag-top down so my hair can blow
The girlies on standby waving just to say hi
Did you stop no I just drove by
Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
The block was dead
Yo so I continued to A1A Beachfront Avenue
Girls were hot wearing less than bikinis
Rockman lovers driving Lamborghinis
Jealous 'cause I'm out getting mine
Shay with a guage and Vanilla with a nine
Reading for the chumps on the wall
The chumps acting ill because they're so full of eight balls
Gunshots rang out like a bell
I grabbed my nine all I heard were shells
Falling on the concrete real fast
Jumped in my car slammed on the gas
Bumpet to bumper the avenue's packed
I'm trying to get away before the jackers jack
Police on the scene you know what I mean
They passed me up confronted all the dope fiends
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

REPEAT CHORUS

Take heed 'cause I'm a lyrical poet
Miami's on the scene just in case you didn't know it
My town that created all the bass sound
Enough to shake and kick holes in the ground
'Cause my style's like a chemical spill
Feasible rhymes that you can vision and feel
Conducted and formed
This is a hell of a concept
We make it hype and you want to step with this
Shay plays on the fade slice like a ninja
Cut like a razor blade so fast other DJs say damn
If my rhyme was a drug I'd sell it by the gram
Keep my composure when it's time to get loose
Magnetized by the mic while I kick my juice
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while Shay revolves it

Ice ice baby vanilla
Ice ice baby (oh-oh) vanilla
Ice ice baby vanilla
Ice ice baby vanilla ice
Yo man let's get out of here
Word to your mother
Ice ice baby too cold
Ice ice baby too cold too cold (x2)
Ice ice baby

Ohmygod pull the dildo from your ass. I was just joking around, you dumb fucker.

First of all, if you're trying to link Bana and Norton together, then you've already failed. Two different franchises, just like the Punisher remake. Second, the fact that RDJ hasn't signed merely enforces my take. They (Marvel) are saving their cash for Robert-Downey because he's The Big Money.

And if you didn't get I was playing both sides in that monologue, then you really need to lose your virginity and relax...

No they were not.
If you watch the second film its very much a continuation of the first, with the opening credits being him trying to rid himself of the powers.

The Punisher was a total reboot, the second Hulk film was a sequel.

What the fucking hell are you on?
Last time I looked people were allowed to make statements.
At no point did your post look anything other than one of your normal fanboy moans.
You have been hanging around with Ray too long, thinking that nobody else is allowed to express their opinions.

Actually, the Incredible Hulk pulled the same stunt Punisher: War Zone did by giving the main character a different origin but doing so in flashbacks and/or dialogue rather than fully exploring them.

Not that I'm defending Norton because I'm a fan (because I'm not. He reminds me of Sean Penn minus the charity cause and the leaking boat), but the statement really paints him in a bad light. The change of direction could have been announced without putting the blame on Norton, since there were no negative statements coming from their side. This just seems mean (especially if it's not true and the change was just the result of disagreement on the financial aspect).

First of all, if you're trying to link Bana and Norton together, then you've already failed. Two different franchises,

No they were not.
If you watch the second film its very much a continuation of the first, with the opening credits being him trying to rid himself of the powers.

The Punisher was a total reboot, the second Hulk film was a sequel.

Actually, the Incredible Hulk pulled the same stunt Punisher: War Zone did by giving the main character a different origin but doing so in flashbacks and/or dialogue rather than fully exploring them.

Nope, they didnt.
Nowhere in the film does it mention his origin.

As I said, the flashbacks (that resembled the old tv series origin) seemed to indicate the attempted removal of the powers rather than the recieving of them.

I think Ultimate Jaburg53 likely had the main reason, Norton is notorious for wanting final cut rights. This could be behind Marvels' "team player" or whatever it was statement.

Marvel needs to get it together though. This is the second actor they've dogged after they replaced him. If you go a different direction, just go. Stop complaining about the actors.
