I have literally like 12 Batman comics, and half of those are from the Englehart/Rogers run from the 70s where Strange shows up. Great stuff. I think the trade that collects the whole thing is called Strange Apparitions.


i just... went to a 24 hour comic shop and legally purchased detective comics 469-479, which contains the run you mentioned and hugo strange stories. it did not change my opinion (and, frankly, made me more impressed by BTAS' retelling of many of these events). at least in the comic world, hugo strange is only successful if batman first admits himself to a doctor. then, hugo's only ace is knowing batman's identity, and not, for example, telling everyone in the world or... i dunno... killing batman while he's lying there.

then the goal is to... pretend to be bruce wayne, spurn his girlfriend, and ruin his stock portfolio? boo.

granted, nolan is awesome, so i'm more than happy waiting to see what his take on the character would be. he's been goddamn spot-on re-inventing every other character to fit his world, so i'm sure (if included) he'd have similar projections for hugo "hurley" strange. at least i hope so.
