Wow, you are just stupid, aren't you? Take a look around, Brian. The entire world (1000+ cities) are all protesting and joining the Occupy Movement. You are a dinosaur that will get left behind with all the rest of the dumb old white men...
I loved watched the protests in Times Square last night. Over 20,000+ people there. Shows that this message cannot be ignored, and no matter how many tantrums they throw or how many different spins they try and squirm, the ignorant sheep of Corporate and Political America are just going to have to go pout in a corner. Legitimate American citizens have spoken. The corporate system must be removed from government, or government must be removed.Period. Get ready, pussies. The Revolution is here.

Yeah, true. I was looking for a word that describes someone who is so illiterate and uneducated as to be angry at "smart people" (i.e. everyone else). That's all I could come up with...

I think it may be a start but with colder temps coming I don't see it going on as it is. At this point though it should be clear to our elected leaders that the usual status quo isn't going to work anymore.
Oh those dirty Americans! How dare they try and close their accounts and pull their own money! The Corporations NEED that money for their private jets! They deserved to be arrested for nothing at all! Most of them don't even look white!

Hmmm, yeah the cold weather is going to have an effect, no doubt. But, I think you'll find that this movement is so real, and dedicated, that it won't really slow them down very much.
And, personally, whether the politicians get the message or not, it's not going to matter. Corporate America won't cave, and this will lead to violent revolution. I can already predict that. Those billionaires living out in the islands would happily see this country burn to the ground before they give up their chokehold...
But among the crowd, you can see signs that are contradictory and polar opposite in message, standing right next to each other. Interpreting the meaning of these protests is something of a Rorschach test, that each pulls in the direction of their own agenda. While all-encompassing in a multitude of contradictory political directions, the thrust is marxist-socialist, wealth redistribution, social justice, fundamental transformation, anti-capitalist, and often blatantly America hating (see the guy with the desecrated flag).
And the usual lefties who are part of the problem such as Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Charles Rangel, Keith Olbermann, etc., are all there to pour their own special brand of kerosine on the fire.
Liberals who bemoan discrimination, intolerance, restraint of Constitutional freedoms, and promotion of hatred toward various abberant minorities, have absolutely no problem with discriminating against, being intolerant of, restricting Constitutional freedoms of, and directing hate-filled scapegoat rhetoric against conservatives.
EXACTLY what they accuse Republicans/conservatives of doing, is EXACTLY what liberals/Democrats do themselves, to those who oppose their beliefs.

Agreed. That's what I kind of find worrying-yet-beautiful. I mean, how was the great Melting Pot of Old America created without that uncertain era of finding all voices heard in unison? I'm genuinely curious...if they can resist being corrupted...to see where it evolves. This is the kind of actual social change I can get behind. By the People, For the People.

When you see spontaneous social protests erupting from Tunisia to Tel Aviv to Wall Street, it’s clear that something is happening globally that needs defining. There are two unified theories out there that intrigue me. One says this is the start of “The Great Disruption.” The other says that this is all part of “The Big Shift.” You decide.
Paul Gilding, the Australian environmentalist and author of the book “The Great Disruption,” argues that these demonstrations are a sign that the current growth-obsessed capitalist system is reaching its financial and ecological limits. “I look at the world as an integrated system, so I don’t see these protests, or the debt crisis, or inequality, or the economy, or the climate going weird, in isolation — I see our system in the painful process of breaking down,” which is what he means by the Great Disruption, said Gilding. “Our system of economic growth, of ineffective democracy, of overloading planet earth — our system — is eating itself alive. Occupy Wall Street is like the kid in the fairy story saying what everyone knows but is afraid to say: the emperor has no clothes. The system is broken. Think about the promise of global market capitalism. If we let the system work, if we let the rich get richer, if we let corporations focus on profit, if we let pollution go unpriced and unchecked, then we will all be better off. It may not be equally distributed, but the poor will get less poor, those who work hard will get jobs, those who study hard will get better jobs and we’ll have enough wealth to fix the environment.
“What we now have — most extremely in the U.S. but pretty much everywhere — is the mother of all broken promises,” Gilding adds. “Yes, the rich are getting richer and the corporations are making profits — with their executives richly rewarded. But, meanwhile, the people are getting worse off — drowning in housing debt and/or tuition debt — many who worked hard are unemployed; many who studied hard are unable to get good work; the environment is getting more and more damaged; and people are realizing their kids will be even worse off than they are. This particular round of protests may build or may not, but what will not go away is the broad coalition of those to whom the system lied and who have now woken up. It’s not just the environmentalists, or the poor, or the unemployed. It’s most people, including the highly educated middle class, who are feeling the results of a system that saw all the growth of the last three decades go to the top 1 percent.”
Not so fast, says John Hagel III, who is the co-chairman of the Center for the Edge at Deloitte, along with John Seely Brown. In their recent book, “The Power of Pull,” they suggest that we’re in the early stages of a “Big Shift,” precipitated by the merging of globalization and the Information Technology Revolution. In the early stages, we experience this Big Shift as mounting pressure, deteriorating performance and growing stress because we continue to operate with institutions and practices that are increasingly dysfunctional — so the eruption of protest movements is no surprise.
Yet, the Big Shift also unleashes a huge global flow of ideas, innovations, new collaborative possibilities and new market opportunities. This flow is constantly getting richer and faster. Today, they argue, tapping the global flow becomes the key to productivity, growth and prosperity. But to tap this flow effectively, every country, company and individual needs to be constantly growing their talents.
“We are living in a world where flow will prevail and topple any obstacles in its way,” says Hagel. “As flow gains momentum, it undermines the precious knowledge stocks that in the past gave us security and wealth. It calls on us to learn faster by working together and to pull out of ourselves more of our true potential, both individually and collectively. It excites us with the possibilities that can only be realized by participating in a broader range of flows. That is the essence of the Big Shift.”
Yes, corporations now have access to more cheap software, robots, automation, labor and genius than ever. So holding a job takes more talent. But the flip side is that individuals — individuals — anywhere can now access the flow to take online courses at Stanford from a village in Africa, to start a new company with customers everywhere or to collaborate with people anywhere. We have more big problems than ever and more problem-solvers than ever.
So there you have it: Two master narratives — one threat-based, one opportunity-based, but both involving seismic changes. Gilding is actually an optimist at heart. He believes that while the Great Disruption is inevitable, humanity is best in a crisis, and, once it all hits, we will rise to the occasion and produce transformational economic and social change (using tools of the Big Shift). Hagel is also an optimist. He knows the Great Disruption may be barreling down on us, but he believes that the Big Shift has also created a world where more people than ever have the tools, talents and potential to head it off. My heart is with Hagel, but my head says that you ignore Gilding at your peril.
The government does need to change. Protesting will not bring about that change. The powers that be do not care if poor people are disrupting the lives of other poor people. They can wave their signs and block traffic and shit on the sidewalk all they can get away with. This will not disrupt the lives of The multi billionaires who run this country.

Even these "Raeliens", spaced-out as their California protest movement is, express a more lucid idea of what they are there for than the Wall Street protestors stumble their way into saying.

Yeah, how dare they express their unhappiness with the Federal Corporate America! They should be singing such great songs like, "Freedom isn't free....it costs your home and any hope you had for the future....unless you're a billionaire" I love that song.
the thrust is marxist-socialist, wealth redistribution, social justice, fundamental transformation, anti-capitalist, and often blatantly America hating (see the guy with the desecrated flag).
Yeah, fuck the Federal Corporate America. I support what you outline here 100%. I look forward to a better world than this one. Hope you do too.
Listen, if you're following a protest against The Establishment, you better be ready to hear complaints, animosity, and insults hurled at said Establishment. If your blood is so "red, white, & blue" you can't believe the world doesn't kiss your ass, you have no involvement in this movement. Sit down and they can explain it to you when it's all over. Just keep humming "God Bless 'Merica"...
"Fuck the U.S.A." is not what I call a patriotic allegiance to our democracy, that seeks to reform a few injustices. And no amount of reforms will win their loyalty to our democracy.

Sex offender registers Occupy Portland camp as address
PORTLAND, Ore. – A sex offender who registered his address with police as the Occupy Portland camp downtown is concerning some protesters who are camping there.
Raymond Allen Curtis registered the campsite at Lownsdale Square as his address with police last week. Curtis is from California.
“I think he should be outta here because there’s a lot of kids around here,” said protester Ravin James.
Protester Jeanne Whitman is doing her own research.
“If he’s living in the state of Oregon, he has to register with the state of Oregon and he’s not,” said Whitman. “How easy would it be for someone to frankly, make something like that up? Extremely easy.”
KATU News searched for Curtis in sex offender databases in Oregon, Washington and California. His name did not appear.
The Occupy Portland public safety team says they still take this seriously.
“I personally will engage with police if that’s necessary and we’ll take care of the problem,” said public safety team member Nat Holder. “It’s zero tolerance for violence.”
26 people patrol the camps at night, according to public safety team members.
Despite one report of a possible sexual assault police could never confirm, most protesters told KATU News they are not concerned about their safety in the camps.

I suspect this is just some bullshit someone made up to make the protesters look bad. Because shitting on the sidewalk doesn't make you look bad enough.

Pretty much. The movement is global now. No amount of whining will stop it. So, naturally those who are threatened by it will do whatever they can to either discredit or co-opt the movement. You can bet on it. Hell, look at how some have knee-jerked in this very forum, rushing to attack something they don't understand.
