NYDaily Milk Street Cafe, the restaurant whose business dried up in the face of the Occupy Wall Street barricades, is shutting down.
Thursday will be the last day for the 23,000 square-foot eatery that opened at 40 Wall St. in June, the Daily News has learned.
“It’s terribly sad,” Milk Street Cafe owner Marc Epstein told the News.
Epstein blamed the barricades that remained in front of his restaurant even after the Occupy Wall Street protestors were removed from Zuccotti Park.
“This is now the 12th straight week of the barricades,” he said.
The restaurant owner, who operates an eatery and catering business in Boston, said he pressed the city daily for their removal, but got nowhere.
Milk Street Cafe’s closure will result in the layoff of 70 workers. That’s on top of the 21 let go in October. In recent days, Epstein tried to find resources to remain open, but in the end he couldn’t come up with the cash to keep the vast restaurant running.
“Everyone has to understand the consequences of their actions,” he said. “I have 90 plus people who put their faith in me. I feel horrible.”
When asked whether he would ever open a restaurant in New York again, Epstein responded, “Never.” Beautiful.

Doesn't "evolve or die" also apply to individuals who are bankrupt because of college loans for a degree that isn't really that in demand in the marketplace (like studies on feminine armpit hair or something)? I mean, learn how to weld or flip a burger instead of asking wall street to give you free jobs and money?

that's my patented SoM-spin. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but my boyish good looks and positive outlook on life help distract people from the fact.

Times are tough. Millions out of work. Millions more homeless. The system needs overhauling. Evolve or die. So... when people don't have a job, they can blame Wall Street, protest for months, and live on someone else's private property; and it's a-okay. When someone loses their job because people blaming Wall Street blocked up the streets and drove customers from area businesses, causing said businesses not to make money and go bankrupt, those businesses need to 'evolve or die'.

According to the article, the "barricades" put up by the Law Enforcement remained long after Zucarotti Park was cleared. He asked the city officials to remove them, and they didn't. Business never returned. RIGHTSPIN = "Occupy Wall Street put restaurant out of business" So, the reason the barricades are there was because the Corrupt Political Elite demands their slaves not be allowed to free speech and right to protest. But, when it comes time to RIGHTSPIN, you jump a few middle steps and "blame the homeowners for their foreclosure". Just like Corporate Merica has taught you.

The barricades were up due to OWS protestors protesting in the streets of New York, which they continued to do after being cleared from Zuccotti Park. Also, he was losing business well beforehand as he let people go as early as October. Just as when the Occupy movement protested and blocked out ports on the West Coast, all they really did was keep blue collar workers from earning a day's pay. There are consequences to their actions. Their prolonged protests hurt businesses while they themselves did nothing to help the local small business owners by buying anything from them. Instead, they dirtied up their restrooms because they thought they were entitled to do whatever they pleased wherever they pleased.

Eh, I think the blame here goes both ways. Yes, the OWS crowd hurt his business by causing the barricades to go up. However, to blame the continued suffering of the store on the OWS protesters because THE CITY refused to remove the barricades after evicting them from Zucotti Park is blatantly disregarding the city's blame in this. Both sides are to blame for the loss of these jobs. I don't want to sound like Jimmy Valmer but, c'mon,

But, when it comes time to RIGHTSPIN, you jump a few middle steps and "blame the homeowners for their foreclosure". Just like Corporate Merica has taught you. In some cases, it was the fault of people overextending themselves to live beyond their means. In some it was the federal government pushing banks to make loans to people who would otherwise be rejected because they wouldn't have been able to pass income criteria for the loan amount. Others are the fault of predatory loan companies that set out to use the government loopholes to make a shitload of money quickly and then dump the debts elsewhere. So... is there anything else you'd like to discuss, or are there more empty accusations that you'd like to throw around?

The protests didn't stop when the cleaned the park, they just stopped living there. As a matter of fact, protestors are there in the park this very day. Most have cleared out and the movement is a shell of its former self. They are lucky at this point to have a few hundred show up on a weekend. There is absolutely no need to keep a lot of the setup they had for thousands in place.

I guess you can only string together one or two original thoughts a day. Which seems to be about four more than you are capable of offering. When you have the ability to add or discuss beyond your reactionary baby-drivel, I'll pay attention. Thanks.

Wait.
I thought it was a vibrant and growing movement that would transform our nation and take it back from the korporate republinazis?
You're saying its a dwindling group of malcontents? Yeah, I was hopeful that it would be vibrant and grow. However, as was my suspicion from the beginning, they let themselves--for the most part--be co-opted by the far left. I think that was clearly the Soros funded crowds mission: co-opt or destroy. They did a little bit of the former and a whole lot of the latter, IMO. I hold the banks in the same kind of contempt I hold the federal government. I'm hopeful that some actual prosecution against such fraudsters and thieves can begin with the taking down of Corzine. I still think we need to terribly rethink our, supposedly, Capitalist system on all levels. OWS, IMO, is no longer a viable vehicle to do that. As for the remnants, I won't paint them all with the broad brush of being malcontents. I'm sure there are still a few that would like to return the movement to an early set of principles. But, I think most of those that really did believe in it have moved on to other projects such as Occupy Our Homes. Those left are either malcontents, like you said, or in danger of leaving disillusioned or joining in the "malcontent-ery." Just my two cents on the matter.

“Everyone has to understand the consequences of their actions,” he said. “I have 90 plus people who put their faith in me. I feel horrible.”
When asked whether he would ever open a restaurant in New York again, Epstein responded, “Never.” Beautiful. Pissing off a majority of people and costing 70 people their jobs really wins people over to the OWS cause. Even the most OWS-sympathetic and most liberal mayors in America are busting up these offensive shit-hole camps and sending them on their way. And rightly so.

See, you have no argument against a well thought out post. I'm sorry you couldn't find anything you could repost to respond with. First of all, there were multiple posts. Where to start? Second, you call that "well thought out"? You just repost the "company line". I at least have the ability to think for myself. You seem to be equating "think for your self" with "uninformed/unsourced opinion". You simply enter a thread, state your opinion based on a cursory glance, and that's it. I haven't been reactionary. I just have formed my opinion after considering the various sources of information I have available. No, you react to whatever is the latest clip or media posted that falls into your prerogative of opinion. You have not brought anything here that you have not read somewhere else, and have reposted ad nauseum. Incorrect. There's an entire thread with at least the first half full of what "I have brought". Don't walk in late to the game and act like the conversation only started when you got your panties in a wad. There's pages of it in the other thread. Congratulations on the epiphany. I am sure that is to imply I am not an individual? Yep. You and Rex. "Individuals". I have been here weighing both sides before I established my opinion. If by "weighing" you mean not posting anything at all, then yeah I agree. "reactionary baby-drivel" does however describe the OWS movement well. That's an opinion, Jake. It's useful to you and whoever agrees with you/you agree with. Everyone has them. I haven't even entered my political opinion into these OWS discussions. If your "political opinion" is the same as your...what, "social opinion" (?), I am sure it's obvious to everyone. I only critique these children's temper tantrum. You call us "children" in a need to elevate yourself in your own mind, and in the eyes of others. Meanwhile, you're just another drone, lacking in any real perspective on the world other than your own comfort and convenience. Get off your ass and do something instead of bitching and crying behind a keyboard, Jake. These idiots abandoned their message to argue whether they can or cannot sleep like vagrants in the park. Some did, and the media would love you to believe they're all exactly the same. Instead of, you know, varying degrees of versatility, as The Movement has pointed out since Day One. Meanwhile, Occupy continues all over the world. One person or a million, The Movement remains...

You really don't equate your movement to those in Egypt and Libya?
You know, people who actually put their lives on the line to make a difference.
Instead of bitching until your government is giving you money other people actually did the work for.
