That's what happens when you decide that Star Fleet isn't a military force.

I like how, for once, a Star Trek series depicts a sentient race--that isn't the Borg--that's totally irredeemable.

Odo having to admit that Kira was right about the Jem Hadar child that he tried to raise was a golden moment.

You know, I'm really not enjoying Worf all that much.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he got work after TNG ended, but his character's always been rather boring, and if it weren't for the Klingons' big arrival in season four, his presence would serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

Wow. Serendipity...Or something. I just got the episode For The Cause.

I was just thinking to myself yesterday that the Federation is no less a collective than the Borg. But the difference between the two is that the Federation is far more passive aggressive in its habits of assimilation.

And now Eddington is giving a similar speech.

Noice.

The writers took a pretty unfair route with Dukat. Setting up his character with the whole "inferior/superior race" diatribe comes out of left field for a guy who went through so much trouble to preserve the lives of his Bajoran lover and their half-breed child. He could have been easily characterized as vengefully genocidal without being made out to be a 24th century Hitler.

Taking a brief pause from the marathon to watch Insidious 2.

The first one was a home run. And since James Wan directed this one as well, I expect the same of the sequel.

I see 2 as way better than one. Has more things happening in it, and the ghosts look more scary than the muppet devil that was on the first one.

There's also parts in it that has the "fake footage" feel in them, which is going to be a boon for people who like that.

It was pretty good. It's as happy an ending as you're gonna get from Wan.

This was the first time in over 20 years that I watched this movie from beginning to end. Having done, so I was surprised at how much this actually is-in the traditional narrative sense-a Christmas movie.

The entire movie takes place during the Christmas season. It opens with the Christmas song and ends with a Christmas song.

The protagonist is a man who is haunted by his past and contemplating suicide at the holiday season.

He has to save people from an evil businessman. He encounters a white haired fellow with special powers. He is reminded of the importance of friends and family.

And then, at the end, he realizes that his life has meaning and he sits down for a Christmas dinner with his new "family."

It is basically "it's a wonderful life" with drug dealing, Kung fu and machine guns.

I've watched Lethal Weapon again several times over the years and enjoyed the Christmas-festive elements.
I love Lethal Weapon 1, 2 and 3.

It's a Wonderful Life is a great movie, especially over Christmas.
But another often overlooked Frank Capra classic I love at least as much is Meet John Doe, starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck.
For those who don't know, it begins with a newspaper being taken over by a rich politician and firing a bunch of staff. One of the fired columnists
(Barbara Stanwyck) fires off a fake letter to the editor before she picks up her last paycheck, the letter signed an anonymous "John Doe",
protesting politics and the state of civilization. It sets off a firestorm of controversy so great that the columnist is re-hired.
And they hire an unemployed vagrant (Gary Cooper) to pretend to be the John Doe figurehead for a regular series of columns protesting social injustices,
that grows quickly into a Tea Party-like national movement for the "average American".

And it all culminates into a beautiful moment at the end on Christmas eve.

Marathon over.

Yeah. Voyager sucks.

The last season of DS9 was a tad disappointing. Bashir got almost unbearably self-righteous. Ezry was no less annoying than Jadzia. Garak was....off. And the Pa Wraiths were puffed up throughout the season before making only one appearance, at which point they just disappear.

I would rather they had taken a different direction with this 'prophets-wraiths' crap. Sisko could have adopted the point of view that the controlling nature of the prophets made them just as undesirable as the wraiths. A kind of 'make your own destiny' aspect that challenged the 'prophets can do no wrong' narrative that stayed 'til the end.

As it is, the Pa Wraiths only seem to exist to give Sisko a big baddie to kill off at the end--not to mention a reason to leave.

Hangover 3 .. what a pile of cack.
I never got the hype around the first one, it was ok, but no more than that. The 2nd one I barely remember. But this one, at which point was it actually a comedy?
Too much of it was obvious as hell, and I pretty much knew everything before it happened.
And the characters, Alan has to be the fucking most annoying character ever, and through all three films I found myself wishing someone would kill him. That said, none of the characters were likeable to be fair, but he was the worst of the lot.

Had hoped this would be a return to the okishness of the first one, rather than being as forgettable as the second one, but it was just shit.

I only watched Hangover 2 for the tranny...

Is Alan the one with the beard? No matter what film he's in, he has no redeeming features whatsoever. And apparently he's a whiny, obstinate, cunt in real life.

The first "Hangover" was one of the most overrated comedies I'd ever seen. I never bothered with the others. And, yes, Galifinakis or whatever his name is, is a no talent ass. Talk about a flash in the pan.
