Similar stuff happens here but not as bad. One time I bought on Amazon a huge Calvin and Hobbes box set that weighs about the same as 5 year old kid and I didn't get any custom charges, then I bought some CDs and they charged me like 80 fucking dollars.
Speaking of Amazon I don't know if it's the same in other countries but over here, they started charging a custom fee on their end. At first I thought it was bullshit but now I never get any shady custom charges on Amazon stuff, and Amazon even returns the fee to your card if it's not used. I guess they have some sort of deal with the customs people, because they don't want the usual customs bullshit scaring away potential buyers.
