Beauiful !

It appeals to the working class, Trump working in a McDonalds for a day, that I'm confident will get a lot of new voters to tturn out for him.
And it again shows Trump's willingness to go anywhere to reach out to voters.

And simultaneously, it's a great dig at Kamala Harris, mocking her fake resume "middle class family" narrative that she once worked at McDonalds preparing fries.

There is no record of Kamala Harris ever working at a McDonalds, no employee who ever came forward to say she worked with Kamala Harris there.
No McDonalds location that ever came forward to confirm Kamala Harris ever worked at their location.
And multiple inquiries have been made by Fox News, Newsmax and other news organizations, requesting the McDonalds corporate headquarters, who have records to the beginning of time of every employee who ever worked for McDonalds.
And absolutely no response, NOTHING.
Probably because there are people in the McDonalds organization leadership who know verifying Kamala Harris never worked there will [further] hurt her campaign, and since they are Democrats who want to help her, if only by their silence, say nothing.

Can you imagine Kamala Harris similarly going in to work at McDonalds for a day, completely unscripted?

Maybe the Kamala Harris campaign will make a pre-scripted video of Kamala Harris working for a day a McDonalds, with SNL actress Molly Shannon nervously helping her in the background.

From about a week ago, the annual Al Smith dinner:

Al Smith dinner, 2024

I didn't know till this year that Al Smith, who the dinner is tribute to, was the first Catholic elected to political office in the United States, in 1928.
So while largely an annual event filled with humor, the dinner is inherently a Catholic political event.

And Kamala Harris snubbed them, the first invited candidate not to attend in 40 years (the last, Walter Mondale, humiliatingly lost to Reagan in 1984, in 49 of the 50 states.) Which I hope is an omen of Kamala Harris' fate as well.
Harris snubbed them.
And further insulled Catholics with her pre-recorded video she did with Molly Shannon.

00- 2:00 Introduction by Mary Gaerdos
2:00-25:10 Opening speech by SNL actor Jim Gaffigan
25:10-28:40 Pre-recorded video with Kamala Harris and Molly Shannon
28:40-32:17 Intro by Jim Gaffigan, for Donald Trump
32:17- 1:03:27 Donald Trump

It was a PR stunt and the location wasn't even open to the public for the day.

Still pales in comparison to doing a photo op at Arlington National Cemetery, of course.

You are aware Trump is running for president... right?

I was fun !
No one actually thinks Trump works every day a McDonalds. Bu he still was trained how to do all aspects of the job that regular McDonalds employees do.
And the people going through the take-out line were thrilled.
And I think that reaches out to employees in restaurants and fast food places all over the country. And to many people who frequent them as customers, or work in other blue-collar jobs.

My favorite was the Brazilian lady in the drive through lane, who said:
"I'm from Brazil, and I want you to be president again, so you can prevent this country from becoming Brazil."

He likes salt, apparently. He otherwise looked pretty lost. but then, I'd probably scald myself on a chip fryer so whatever. (What do Americans call "chip fryers"? "Fries fryers"?)

It was a good dig at Harris and the idea of the property mogul pulling a shift in a McDonalds was funny enough to garner media attention. McDonalds has come out disavowing the stunt. I did read somewhere that the franchise was owned by a GOP supporter.

On the other hand... https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/othe...estaurant-that-failed-health-inspection/

"The average fast foodworker earns $13 to $15 per hour nationwide, federal data shows. While Harris has earned endorsements from several influential unions, including Service Employees International Union, which supported the nationwide Fight for $15 campaign, Trump dodged a question on Sunday about whether he supported increasing the minimum wage.

“Well, I think this. These people work hard,” Trump replied instead. “They’re great. And I just saw something - a process that’s beautiful.”"

**

I didn't actually know it was that low. I assume that's before tax. My oldest daughter who works part-time while going through university gets base wage of USD$21 an hour. No wonder customers have to tip - it is a customer subsidy for wages to make up for what employers won't pay.

Over the years many ttimes here on these boards, after multtiple multiple successful pushes for rises in minimum wage raises, G-Man has repeatedly linked to articles showing how these policies if implemented ALWAYS lead to massive layoffs, or replacement of employees by automation.
A most recent example being a statewide mandated raise in minimum wage in California. In reaction, companies just laid off employees they couldn't afford a he new wage, or replaced them with automation. So that benefits these employees... how?
Particularly raises pushed in restaurants or fast food places, where the profit margin is very small.
These policies end up screwing the very people they were implemented to help.

Flipping burgers is an entry level job, it is not a career position.
I would more readily support companies rewarding good employees with partial tuition funding for higher education, as a reward to specific employees who have proven themselves good employees in these entry level positions, after a year or two in these positions. Rather than giving across-the-board pay raises to new employees who haven't proven themselves and earned it.

Yet our minimum wage is much higher than the US minimum wage, with no lay-offs. And we have a low unemployment rate.

Same goes for other countries.

What is it about the American capitalist experiment which means that when you increase minimum wage, employers decide to lay people off?
