AP — The Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner has stepped down from her role at the agency over Department of Government Efficiency requests to access Social Security recipient information, according to two people familiar with the official’s departure who were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
Acting Commissioner Michelle King’s departure from the agency over the weekend – after more than 30 years of service – was initiated after King refused to provide DOGE staffers at the SSA with access to sensitive information, the people said Monday.
The White House has replaced her as acting commissioner with Leland Dudek, who currently works at the SSA, the people said.
CNN has reached out to the Social Security Administration for comment.
White House spokesperson Harrison Fields released a statement Monday night saying: “President Trump has nominated the highly qualified and talented Frank Bisignano to lead the Social Security Administration, and we expect him to be swiftly confirmed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the agency will be led by a career Social Security anti-fraud expert as the acting commissioner.”

The future of Social Security has become a top political issue and was a major point of contention in the 2024 election. About 72.5 million people, including retirees, disabled people and children, receive Social Security benefits.

The acting head of the Social Security Administration (SSA) quit her job over the weekend after butting heads with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), over efforts to access certain sensitive government records, according to reports.
The Washington Post reported that three people familiar with Michelle King’s departure said on Monday that she stepped down from her position after the disagreement.
In response to King’s departure, President Donald Trump reportedly appointed Leland Dudek to lead the agency as the president’s nominee to serve as commissioner of the SSA, Frank Bisignano, is vetted by federal lawmakers.

The three individuals who spoke to the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, reportedly told the publication that Dudek posted positive remarks about DOGE’s efforts to seek out fraud and cut costs across federal agencies.
The SSA did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter.
Musk is leading DOGE to aggressively slash government waste when it comes to federal spending under President Trump. The department was created via executive order and is a temporary organization within the White House that will spend 18 months carrying out its mission.
One of the department’s most recent targets is the SSA, which was created by the Social Security Act under President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935 and tasked with establishing a federal benefits system for older Americans.
As DOGE continues to find fraud and wasteful spending at SSA, Musk turned to X on Monday to say millions of people listed in a Social Security database are recorded as centenarians "with the death field set to FALSE!"

While Russia obviously invaded Ukraine, it could be argued that Ukraine could have done more to de-escalate the grievances of Putin, especially Ukraine seeking NATO membership, that as I posted at the time, Putin made for 25 years crystal clear was a red line he would never accept, and was very clear he would go to war over, before he would allow Ukraine to do so. . It is also no coincidence that Biden at a press conference was asked about NATO membership for Ukraine, and Biden stupidly said "Oh yeah, I think we should fast-track that.." And a week later, that is precisely when Putin launched his invasion.
It's not just by coincidence that Putin invaded Crimea in 2014 when Obama was president, then made no further advances when Trump was president, and then resumed and expanded his invasion of Ukraine in March 2022 when Biden had become president, after Biden had already shown incompetence and weakness in Afghanistan in August 2021. She interviews a filmmaker named Ami Horowitz about 7:55 into this video who was a critic of President Trump, and despite that he initially didn't like Trump's specific comments and style, he says he can't argue with Trump's consistent results and remarkable stack of accomplishments. Trump, (and Musk and his DOGE team) have already unearthed hundreds of billions of blatant Democrat corrupt spending, waste, and political slush funds set up by he Democrat/Deep State that have piled up over the last several decades. And DOGE has only reviewed less than 1% of the annual budget to federal agencies.
Trump is already ramping up oil production (as he did in his first term) that will re-establish the U.S. energy independence Trump built in his first term (and Biden destroyed) that will drop oil and gas prices in half, and with it drop the price of transporting all goods nationwide, which will drop inflation and prices in the next few months.
Trump is negotiating peace in Ukraine and in the Middle East, in brilliant innovative ways that no one else ever tried or even imagined, and by doing so calming the wars and chaos that Biden and the piece-of-shit Bolshevik Democrats created worldwide in just 4 years.
Biden caused the Ukraine war by crossing a red line Putin drew way back in 1999. That Ukraine joining NATO was a red line Russia absolutely would not accept, that Russia would definitely go to war over. And moron Joe Biden as president when asked about Ukraine joining NATO by a reporter, answered "Oh yeah, we should fast-track that." And a week later Russia launched its Ukraine invasion. Hundreds of thousands of lives, slaughtered for three years, in a pointless unnecessary war.
And almost instantly in the 48 hours after Trump was elected, the Russians, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah, all began calling Trump and expressing interest in ending wars they would have gone on fighting if Kamala Harris had won. Because Harris would have continued the Democrat policies that emboldened Russia and Iran to start and continue fighting both these wars in he firs place.
IN THE ENTIRE TIME BIDEN WAS PRESIDENT, HE NEVER ONCE EVEN ANSWERED THE PHONE when Russia called his White House, Russia calling pretty much daily, to negotiate peace. During three years of bloody war in Ukraine. Just letting an average 2,000 people continue to be slaughtered every day in Ukraine, for nothing.
Whereas Trump immediately began negotiating peace, on all fronts. For which Trump should earn a least one, maybe two, Nobel Peace Prizes.
Conversely, if Biden were still president, we could well be escalating toward World War III and all-out nuclear war. Biden caused the war in Ukraine, and then would not even negotiate with Russia. Then was providing planes to Ukraine, but not F-16 and F-22 fighters, because he said that would be escalatory with Russia. Then without explanation, Biden began supplying F-16's and F-22's to Ukraine.
Biden initially didn't supply long range missiles to Ukraine, because THAT he said would be escalatory to Russia. Then in recent months Biden began giving long-range missiles to Ukraine.
And even further since the election, gave permission for Ukraine to fire them into Russia itself, outside the war zone. With the Democrats in charge, we were headed toward all-out war with Russia. Trump has defused that.
Not just stopping the escalation, but aggressively moving forward toward an enduring and lasting peace agreement, and even offered a planned reconstruction and enduring post-war Ukrainian economy, that would eliminate the initial reasons for both the Ukraine and Middle East wars !
And that's not even everything Trump has accomplished, in barely 30 days since inauguration.
Trump has brought in literally trillions in new investment into the U.S. economy. One Japanese tech investor, who initially offered 100 billion in U.S. AI investment, raised that commitment to $500 billion. And just 2 days ago, Apple as well announced it. would invest another $500 billion. Among many other investors.
Trump is deporting the illegals, and illegal criminals, back to their countries of origin in record time. Again, IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS Trump has decreased illegal immigration on our borders by 95%.
And is rapidly deporting the tens of millions already here as well. DHS secretary Kristi Noem announced that if they leave on their own, they can still apply to come back legally, whereas if they don't leave, and stay until they are arrested and deported, they won't be able to ever return to the U.S.. So millions are self-deporting, and saving Kristie Noem and Tom Homan the trouble of rounding them up. It's like a dream.
All Trump's campaign promises fulfilled, and so much accomplished, so quickly, beyond even what he promised.
And THIS is the guy you demonize as "unfit". He is the best president of our lifetime, and is far more accomplished than even Ronald Reagan. I cited the facts proving this, sourced and linked, from Trump's first term. And Trump has made incredible strides beyond even that first term, in just the first 30 days of his second term.
And all the Democrats can do against this mountain of accomplishments is rant angry slanders, and hope that some uninformed rubes out there will believe them. Well, they don't.
The people didn't believe those slanders in Nov 2024, and they believe them even less now. But slander is all the Democrats have left, so Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Elizabeth Warren, and the rest of the Democrat-Bolsheviks just continue their slanders, because that's all they have left.
