how big of a priority is this to you? when image first debuted, they put all their comics on magazine-like pages. shortly after, marvel and dc followed suit, and suddenly, comics seemed to be enjoyed on a whole new artistic level, as colors displayed themselves more beautifully on this paper. then, for whatever reason (cost-cutting?) all comics seemed to devolve back to the newspaper print. perhaps a better newspaper print than before the magazine pages, but newspaper none the less. so... where's my good paper, man?

Well, one good thing 'bout the newsprint paper is that it doesn't smudge as bad as the magazine paper. There have been a couple of times when I've turned a page and the corner of the image/page smudged. Not good. However, the big draw back of newsprint paper is that it doesn't, how can I say this, hold the ink as well. I've got back issues of the current run on Wonder Woman and the ink has rubbed off on the opposite page or bled out so the lettering isn't easy to read. But I'm screwed on that because there haven't been any reprints or TPB's offered for the beginning of this run. Which is sad because Perez had some awesome stories and panels that deserve to be redone for more people to see. SO...if they could come up with a kind of hybrid between the two, I'd be all for it.

sure, this from the guy emailing editors all night about bringing back america's favorite ring wielding alien dog boy. ... anywho, i still think id prefer the nicer magazine paper to the newsprint. gradients look nicer, you can use more computer-color-aided effects (like halo's, sparkles, explosions, sense of burning, or glowing, etc). cant get that from print.

I liked the shiny paper too.I think they also offered newsprint paper too at a lower price for those who couldn't afford the increase in price from shiny paper being used. But,as was pointed out,the shiny stuff did smudge a bit.

i know that, during the "shiny years," you could still buy the newsprint versions. im not sure if they were any less expensive or not, but i do know that you could find the print versions in, like, 7-11s, and, more than likely, circle k's. ... where much is, usually, afoot.

Direct market editions are printed on better stock and at higher quality than newsstand editions, accounting for the cheap-o 7/11 comics.
I likes me the shiny paper. The complete Maus is done on glossy, and it's so much more vibrant (even in black and white) than my individual editions.
Thing is- I can’t spell or type. I spell so badly my spell check doesn’t even know what I was trying to spell. And I have five Eisners HAHAHAHHA!!

I don't like glossy paper. I do like the thick matte stock Image used in the early days. It was better than newsprint, and it was everything the shiny paper claims to be, but better. The shiny paper... I just hate it. You have to hold books at odd angles to not reflect light all over the goddamn thing, glaring annoying goddamn shiny paper....

Baxter Paper, y'all. Baxter Paper rules all. Props to anyone who remembers the first book they picked up with the mighty BP and how they felt when they flipped through it.

Pro-shiny paper. I love it. Of course the main drawback of shiny paper is that it made comics jump from a buck 25 to like 3 goddamn dollars over night. When they went back to newsprint, the prices stayed the same and some have risen since then!

I kind of miss the old crappy newsprint.
Let's face it: 90% of all comics are no less disposible than the average newspaper. why do we need glossy paper?
And anything that keeps the price down is a good thing.
I say keep the montly issues on relatively cheap paper and save the good paper for the TPBs
