I walked away from my renting of Minority Report (via Direct TV) after 45 minutes. This had to be the worst movie I have made my self stick with ,,, well hell,,,, Fight Club was the last!!!! Gawd this movie sucked. Minority Report is very sloppy when it comes to being a movie that preys on people, real people that buy tickets to watch, who think the future is really the way it is displayed in MR. Think about it. If you want to cover things up like the death of JFK you need to have as few people as you can. The more people the more a leak will take place. In MR there are so many people that travel in time the reality of a "paradox" is lost! This movie sucks!!!!!!! [ 02-02-2003, 07:58 PM: Message edited by: Mr. Lesbo ]

First off, Minority Report was the shiznit. Simply put, it was a great movie.

You hated Fight Club too? There's gotta be a cure.

So you know what the future's like? Do tell!

To my recollection, there was only one person "in" on the conspiracy, the old dude in charge of the Report itself. No one else knew what he was doing, not even the guy who catalogued the reports.

There was no time travel. They prevented the crimes by using (and abusing) three clairvoyents (sp?) who could see...
ah, never mind.

Are you sure you didn't get Timecop by mistake? I personally haven't seen MR. I read the short story by Phillip K. Dick and didn't want Speilberg to ruin it. The ending was way too dark and un-Hollywood for Steven to use. I have seen some clips of it and heard some things from friends who saw it. Like the part where all the ads used lasers to scan passerbys' eyes to personalize the ads. Cruise, who was totally the opposite of the character in the book, is walking down the strip where all these ads are pointing out that he's a fugitive; yet, they are still trying to sell him things. I saw that as a moment that really said something about the world today, but I heard that it was quickly overshadowed by crappieness. [ 02-03-2003, 09:27 AM: Message edited by: thedoctor ]

Minority Report was pretty good. As a movie it was "ok", but the special effects were fantastic, and the amount of detail they put into the technology was really cool.
Fight Club is one of the best movies ever.

You should find it with a bunch of other Phillip K. Dick stories. He's easily one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi writers. He's the guy whose stories spawned the movies Blade Runner (which was more of an interpritation of Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep), Total Recall (We Can Remember It for You Wholesale), and Imposter (can't remember this title). None of them are really true to the source material, but Blade Runner is definitely the best.

The effects were fantastic, the movie I hated. The paradox thing bugs me. This movie was fun but very loose on the time travel stuff. After I put my dogs crap in the trash can I finished it. Now I wish I had more dogs because this movie was a real waste for me. Fight Club, I refuse to waste my time on that bitch! Stupid movie. Kind of "gay" if you pay attention to it. I think it was a male dom kind of thing. Male on male. Yep. Yep, gay as a bowl of "fruit loops". Anyone for "hot-dogs"? For me that was it in a (hairy) nut shell. The movie sucked. hahahahahahaha I really hated it!

Minority Report: Zod liked, great future concepts going on in that film. Fight Club: Zod disliked, Zod couldn't get over the fact that people would follow a guy that initially started out beating up himself. Zod would have called the local mental health authority on the guy, but that's just Zod. ![[biiiig grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)

Like I said, I never saw the movie; but the book didn't have any time travel in it. Here's how it all goes down in the book:
Three Precogs (Precogniciants), who happen to be autistic and can't function in regular society, actually have the ability to see "possible" futures. Each sees a certain vision. If one vision sees someone commiting a crime like murder, it's vision is checked against the other two. If another also views said person killing, then those two are put together as the Majority Report that says this person will commit a future crime and must be stopped. The last precog could quite possibly see a future where the murder did not take place. It is called the Minority Report.
I don't want to give the plot of the story away for folks like Franta who may decide to read it, but the basics of the story was that each possible future relied on the main character finding out about his future. It takes into account your "paradoxes." Mighty damn fine read, and I suggest you grab a copy. And read Waterspider while you're at it.

There's no time travel in the movie, Mr. Lesbo is a bit confused.

Exact same premise/terminology in the movie.

Minority Report was fairly entertaining on the big screen. Much less so on the small screen. Some of it was just stupid.
Spoiler warning! Woo! . . . . . . . It bugs me that Cruise's character (the supposed "hero") was directly responsible for the death of Farrell's character.
Fight Club is one of my favourite movies of all time.

Minority Report was glorified eye candy. The story was mediocre(never read the Dick story), the plot twists cliched and the message was so garbled it astounds me that anybody could've walked out of the theater satisfied. The movie is currently #153 on the IMDB top 250, showing that not only do people prefer paying to see a Spielberg movie, they walk out happier than crowds seeing a Scorcese or Coen brothers film. I think that pretty much sums up why the American movie scene sucks so much right now.
Of course, I have to say that I don't take anybody who didn't like Fight Club seriously.

Minority Report, eh? Well, I must say that I rather enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of the dystopian future concept, especially those where there exists a global (or city/country-wide) system that is seemingly perfect. Some of may favorite books are 1984 and Brave New World, two of the finest examples of the genre to date. I loved the film A.I., unlike most of the American public (I was pissed beyond pissed at how few Oscar noms that one got).
That having been said, I thought Minority Report was very well done, capturing well the horror of a probable futuristic system. Max von Sydow was, as always, absolutely incredible. I do believe he is one of the best aging character actors around, along with Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee. Colin Farrell, another extremely talented character actor, also played his role superbly. Tom Cruise's performance was one of the best I've seen since Top Gun and the first Mission: Impossible. Very good acting.
But, like I said, I'm slightly biased. I love the genre and actors like von Sydow will assure that I have a seat. Very enjoyable film, I thought. No time travel, though (thank heaven...).

Fight Club is one of my favourite movies of all time.
How heroic is that?!
