Personally, I get a kick out of the fact that you can't call Nightwing Dick Grayson anymore, because "Dick" is censored.
Nor can you type "DCUMB" because the word "cum" is inadvertantly spelled out in that acronym.
However, you can say "ejaculate".

the autocensor is but one of many frustrations.
on the old/current dcmbs, i programmed the feature, so it was really a work in progress. its easy to understand why "dick" is a no-no word -- i even had that censored for the first few days on those boards. but, obviously, there are certain words that we CAN'T censor, for just sucha reason.
however...
now, these boards are moreso WB's babies. and they have control of the censor feature. ... the same feature that lords over their other boards, like looney toons and harry potter n'such, where "dick" can easily be censored out.
oy!
we're workin on it, tho.

Hi, Rob! I just discovered the new DCMB's, and I'm not impressed. Not only is the auto-censor truly anal, but it doesn't even tell you what you said wrong! I spent 5 minutes figuring out why it wouldn't take one of my posts (I called the boards CUMbersome). And how many people would realize that talking about a wristwatch was a no-no?

A few more (another poster @ the new boards grabbed my list and added more) OKay, I realise everyone else will be complaining about the same things, but, here's a few complaints to be going on with: - No quote-other-posts function
- no lists (and you can't HTMLise a list - or manually quote for that matter)
- A frelling NIGHTMARE to register
- Ad banners
- Slow to load
- That background may look nice, but have you got any IDEA how long it takes to load over a 56k modem? The designer obviously didn't
- Can't logout
- links - instead of linking as DC Comics, they link as dccomics.com << DC Comics. Irritating
- No reply function
- No access to other poster's profiles, and email addresses (what was the point of filling it in?)
- No drop down menu to move easily to other boards
- Having to scroll thru' page one to get to any subsequent pages
- No edit function
- Can't logout
- Can't search throught the posts
- A STUPID 2000-character (including sigs, spaces & symbols)
- The autocensor is awful - it looks for part-words (like "C u m" in "cu mbersome") too. And we can't talk about Mr. Grayson's (a.k.a. Robin I, Nightwing) first name.
- And the big one - ALL THIS CRAP AND WE STILL CAN'T EDIT!??!!?!??!?!?!!? WHAT THE FRELLING HELL IS GOING THROUGH THESE PEOPLE'S HEADS??????????????
I think the people who designed the new things need a lobotomy,,, do they have any idea what features most MB posters want/use?

man... i know some people aren't quite fond of the new boards, but... lobotomy? seems somewhat extreme.

regardless, its a good list, somebody. a frelling good list. most i cant speak on behalf of, because they're still being worked on. however, here are some replies to some issues:
ad banners are there to stay, tho. that wont change. and, really, though annoying as all hell, you cant fault dc or wb for that -- the boards (free to you) cost them thousands on a monthly basis, might as well try to make a wee bit back.
the board speed is mostly dependant on the specific computer/browser you're using. for example, the background gradient image some are complaining about is only an 8 kb file (very small -- same size as the "DCMB" header image atop the old boards). even using a dial-up, AOL browser, that pops in within 3 seconds, and only needs to load once to appear on every page.

i've heard preformance complaints from MAC users, netscape users, and webtv users. granted, even combined, thats a minority of the audience, however... even if just 20% of our member base, thats about 5,000 dcmb posters.

Add the glaring problems with identity theft due to the ability to use aliases and the lack of a database to check them against.
Add the impossibiity of registering a screen name that currently exists on the OLD DCU boards without, at BEST, going through incredible contortions.
The New Boards are going to be the ONLY place on the Net where I am NOT "Sk8maven" - because DC would not allow me to register and will not allow me to change my registration.

no worries, i promise! y'know, i have a feeling yer name was one of the few automatically registered a few weeks back (a couple of names were, to beta test it). tho that might explain why yer name is already in the system, it doesnt explain why yer current screen name and password dont work. y'sure yer tryin both screen name and password in all lower case letters? no spaces? no strange characters? The New DC Message Boards, A Plea Okay seriously Rob the new boards are a sure pain in the ass. As a representive of the Batboards I have a few things to say. I laugh at your poilicy that my screen name may contain letters and numbers only, no spaces. (I took away the space and the same message shows up over and over. Ok HTF do I fix this?) Other than that there are still many problems I need to address... - Ed Brubaker can't use Ed Brubaker as his own screen name! What kind of fucked up new world order is this?

Wow, you guys have been busy bees since I last posted to this topic on March 24th.
It all finally hit the fan on the DC Boards.
I'm getting a "server broken" message on the old Infopop DC boards, and I don't know if this is temporary, or if this is really the end for it. I hope it lasts a little bit longer.
And I saved about 60 topics from ODCUT, and 5 from DC Archives sections. I plan to start some of my favorites over on Rob's boards and keep them alive here, when time allows.
Thankyou so, so much Rob, for the advance warning, and for giving us an alternative here, that is obviously the way YOU would have elected to update the DC Message Boards format. And the rest of us would have as well.
But alas, what can you do? The glass is still half full, anyway :)

i have a few other ideas as to how to make it look like the posts are from here, but im still working on'em.
