No, what the Seagle is doing is having these captions next to the powers. So if Superman is flying we get a little caption that says "Flight." If he's lifting a tank we get a caption that says "Super-strength." And it's the same for every power, every time it's used. I thought it was a gimmick for his first issue, but it's been almost a year now.

And the thing is that while today the idea that Superman could have those powers on demand is ridicolous, back when those movies came out (except for four) that was the rule.
Superman could have WHATEVER power he needed to survive the situation and never use it again, so in that context, the people that wrote Superman and Superman II (keep in mind that all the scenes in Superman II with Hackman were directed by Donner and writen at the same time as the original) were following the rules set forth by the comics.

I just said that it's an idea that respected an era of comics that I hate...
I pointed out the Donner stuff because the scene where Superman used the split power, the hand beam power and the celophan (celofan?) shield had Luthor in it, which means they were shot by Donner.
I wasn't even thinking about the kiss...

No, no. A lot of people think Superman II is flawed because of the kiss. What I meant (that was probably wrong) is that as soon as something "silly" is mentioned from a movie as "realistic" as that, you ran to explain the reason for that "silly" thing to be there.

Well, those people are right... but while the movie is flawed by the kiss, it's still an accurate adaptation of how the comics were back then, so the writers understood what they were doing.
They saw comics with powers that came and went without explanation so they used that because that's what the source material was like.
Just look at Burton's Batman. That's based on the source material of the time, while Batman & Robin is based on source material from 20 years earlier, which is why it sucked.

Learn simple math. Schumacher made his films in the 90's. 90-20=70. Therefore, numbnuts, the comics of 20 years prior was in the 70's during the period that the darkness of the Batman charcter began to creep back into the comics.
Secondly, the TV was twice as campy as any of the comics of that time simply due to the fact that it went out of it's way to be campy.

Then change 20 to 30, as simple as that...
And trust me, there's nothing more campy than giant typewriters, Bat-Mite and a Batwoman with a purse, something the comics did and the TV show never touched (except for the purse since Batgirl had one)...
Compared to the comics, the TV show was not as campy or ridicolous.

If Schumacher really wanted to pay homage to the old show, he would have had Bat-shark repelant.
In Batman Forever, when Robin said "Holey rusted metal Batman." And Batman said: "Huh?" And then Robin explained, that was funny.
Batman and Robin was a disaster. And Robin didn't say "Holy" anything.
And where was the Bat-shark repelant?
He should have just remade the 60's movie. That would have been better then the crap WB released.

Moty, I wish I could be simple minded. That way, things would be black or white. I could "read" comics and pretend to understand them. I could judge stories by their covers and their length, or by wether they include a talking animal or not. I could let a fictional cosmic event tell me which stories are good and which ones aren't, I could tell wether a writer is good or not by his ability to fit into a meaningless forced continuity. I could like Rob Lefield.
But, unfortunately, I'm not, so instead I'm stuck with more complex ways to judge a story, ways which actually require using my brain. I wish I could let my brain rest, but I just can't. In that sense, I envy you.
