AT LAST-- A thread devoted to everyone's favorite disease-inducing damsel!
***Question for Drura fans: MUCOUS or MATERIAL?
Apparently, in Dave Cockrum's original design for Infectious Lass (which I have always loved), the hangy-stuff from her arms wasn't intended to be fabric but actual mucous-- which I DON'T love!
Now, I'm a Cockrum-lover from way back-- this is the guy who gave us Infectious Lass, Porcupine Pete & Wildfire, after all-- but MY first exposure to Infectious Lass was in Superboy/LSH 218-- drawn by Grell, and that alleged mucous looked like material from her costume. Giffen ALSO drew it to look like material, not mucous.
So what say you, Drura fans? Mucous or material?
***DRURA quote of the day:
"I'm positive I heard a POP!" -- DC COMICS PRESENTS # 59
***Infectious Lass Fun Fact:
Drura was never an actual LEGIONNAIRE on-panel, but she did join during the 5-Year Gap per the TMK Legion Sourcebook, and was featured semi-prominently during the 5-Years Later stories!
***For you Drura completists:
Infectious Lass faded from Legion continuity in VALOR # 22, End of an Era PART 2, along with other stalwarts such as Invisible Kid 2, Fire Lad and Stone Boy.
***Infectious Lass Fun Fact:
Drura's very first appearance is in Superboy/LSH # 201-- she gives Star Boy the green-apple splatters at her LEGION tryout-- so hit those back-issue bins, fanboy!!
***REBOOT DRURA!!!
Infectious Lass has YET to appear in post-boot LEGION continuity, but someone who DOES look VERY MUCH like her has a crowd-scene cameo on the LEGIONNAIRES # 43 cover and Drura's image is used as a visual gag (along with the rest of the SUBS') during the SECRETS OF THE LEGION miniseries. A group of children looking suspiciously like the SUBS is featured in all 4 issues.

Mucous or material? Only her athramite knows...
Maybe it's a super-scientific hi-tech poly/mucous/banyo bark blend.
Shame it never caught on...
If the sleeve... ah... ornamentation was mucous, was the mask thingie on her face as well?
FUN INFECTIOUS LASS OPINION: I think her relationship with Jacques in the 5YL era was one of the Legion's best ever. I would've loved to see more of her as the Legion's 'First Lady' when IK2 was leader.
Of all the romances, this is the one I'd like to see rebooted and played out from their first meeting.
TN
Hey, Lashie-- I'm just using this avatar for this thread. Drura's pic *had* to be on here. I'm surprised you didn't use it...
I'm switching back to Lyle, now. (fickle, aren't I?)

I ABSOLUTELY agree re: the Infectious Lass/Invisible Kid 2 pairing!
Not only were they a visually stunning couple, but I loved their sense of playfulness. My gal Drura has a sense of humour, for sure!
SUCH a breath of fresh air from "Ma & Pa Ranzz" and the tragedy of the Jo/Tinya & Mon-El/Shady stuff.
And re: Drura's avatar-- I used it for a few days but settled with Tenzil, 'cuz, well, Sprouse's Tenzil is the cutest EVER!!!

If only because it would make a cuddle from Drura a bit of a messy idea.

Is there anyone but me who thinks Drura may well be one of the most powerful characters ever? Seriously, any character who is susceptible to any disease could be taken down by her.

I'm sorry, but snot on your sleeve is a serious fashion don't in any century. I'm fairly certain that a super-trendy girl like Drura would have known that.
I go with fabric :)

It has long-been my belief that Somahturians (Drura's people) could be considered like unto gods.
My idea to keep her from becoming TOO powerful was to make her area of expertise HUMANOIDS only. She'd have trouble taking down, say, GATES for example, or someone from SENSOR's world...

***Question for Drura fans: Makeup or Markings?
So what WAS that blue stuff on Drura's face? A tempoary tattoo? Makeup of some sort? Tribal markings?
Infectious Lass quote of the day:
"What does it take to satisfy that bunch? I found a way to make my disease-inducing power even stronger than before-- now I can cause epidemics-- but they STILL don't want me!" ---S/LSH # 218

My vote: it's the side effect of a virus that she controls.
The Somahturian version of makeup!

THE LEGION GROUPIE Infectious Lass Edition
Real Name: Drura Sehpt
Home Planet: Somahtur
***Infectious Lass Fun Fact:
Infectious Lass joined the Legion alongside Porcupine Pete, Chlorphyll Kid and Visi-Lad!
Fire Lad was the member that joined before her and Color Kid and Stone Boy were the first members to join AFTER her.
***Infectious Lass quote of the day:
"The government here has been less-than-accomodating and the population seems almost encouraged to openly express its xenopobia. That's not a great thing when you're an alien from a planet of disease-spreaders." -- 2995 LSH SOURCEBOOK
***REBOOT DRURA!!!
In an old thread at the old Legion MB, Andy Lanning STRONGLY suggested to me that Inectious Lass was returning, as he had an idea for using her...

QUESTION: Why has the popularity of Infectious Lass not rubbed off on Quake Kid, who she certainly seemed to be getting quite friendly with before accidently embuing him with stomach cramps?

Quake Kid was a loser!
Im convinced that Drura INTENTIONALLY gave him those cramps to get his filthy paws OFF of her... not matter HOW innocent she acted!

I heard a news item on the radio while driving to work today about an experiment involving the use of cells to improve hearing for aging ears.
How is this relevant to the lovely Drura?
The cells were 'delivered' to the ear in a 'Trojan virus'. The virus lacked any disease-causing capability, but was the 'introduciton' medium for the specialized cells.
Add a thousand years and extrapolate.
With Brainy's aid, Drura'd be capable of just about anything.
Those virus/disease powers could work well with the abilities of Sun Boy, Chlorophyll Kid, Gas Girl, Kid Quantum, Chameleon, Umbra...
Drura could and perhaps should be at the top of the 'powers' heap.
Bring her back!

That looks veeeery mucousy to me. The only time I've seen her though is in the DCCP issue and I assumed it was material. If it is mucous though I wonder if she has to clean up behind herself all the time.

WOW, Dave gave Drura 100% in that pic! She looks great, DESPITE the mucous-y look of her arm fabric!! Let's just say it is SIMULATED mucous material...
NOW... can someone post Dean Lee's pics from the LMBP or Pics group? I know he has done 2.... and as TD said, they are stunning...

I have seen the costume one, and it'd be great if you could copy it here. Gorgeous!
I also remember another Drura pic similar to the one above - Drura in another green dress. (I really like the color choice.)

See, Dean gave the arm ornamentation a bitchen look-- it kinda looks like draping fabric with a soft, squishier feel... kinda like Stretch Armstrong... THAT I like! Stunning Drura pic from Dean-- HE MUST DO MORE! (and THANKS again, Povvy!)
