Now, I've nothing against being gay. In fact, some of my best cyberfriends are gay. [um.... uh huh! ... ]

But I just want to go on record as saying that not ALL Legion fans are gay. Some of us are downright hetero.

Of course, being a hetero Legion fan does put one in an awkward position at times, considering the ages of our fictional heroes. In other words, it seems acceptable for gay fans to talk about how Lyle is a cutie and how Rokk rocks [yuh huh] . But if some of us male heteros make lustful comments about the female Legionnaires, we run the risk of coming off as dirty old men. [gulp!] The same might apply to older female posters who express a preference for certain male Legionnaires -- or it might not. There don't seem to be a lot of openly straight female Legion readers in these parts.

Of course, sex isn't the only topic of Legiondom worth considering. (No, some of you, it's not. [yuh huh] ) But it does seem to be taking a degree of prominence on this forum. Perhaps its because DnA have given us so few stories that inspire lengthy discussions. Perhaps its because many of us are revelling in the newfound freedoms on Rob's board (and revelling in a few other things, it seems. [yuh huh] ). Or perhaps spring fever has something to do with it.

In any case, I just want to state for the record that I am a Legion fan and hetero, and proud of it. I also want to state that I DO NOT read the Legion to look at scantily drawn, teenaged girls (though I have nothing against looking at them, either).

Any other "straights" out there? Perhaps we should have a "coming out" party. [woooOOOOoooo!] [woooOOOOoooo!]

You bring up an interesting point, but I don't think of it as a homo or hetero thing. (And you'll notice that a lot of the "gay" threads weren't started by L-board regulars.)

There was a thread a bit ago: vote for the hottest Legionnaires. I remember saying that (the current) Brainy was cute in a "Awww, your little brother's so cute!" way.

Seems like a lot (but not all, I know) of people here are in their 30s, so the ages of the current Legionnaires would put them as our little siblings, or even old enough to be our children.

I can only speak for myself here, but I don't find teenagers (even the oldest ones) attractive. They might be beautiful, but..well, they're kids and they act like it. Who wants to deal with all that college freshman shit again?

ON THE OTHER HAND...a lot of us have been reading Legion since before we hit double-digit birthdays. Remember when you were eight or so, and you thought 19 was really grown-up? When you started reading comics is your golden age, they say.

And keep in mind that for some, the Legionnaires aged along with us. Back in the early 90s, they were early-to-mid-30s-ish.

Granted, they are teenagers now. But we're all Hypertime witnesses: we remember them when they were older too.

I don't think it's so much someone in their 30s thinking yeah, I wanna go out with a 16-year-old as much as if I was a Legionnaire I'd ask Lyle to the Space-Prom! Most of us are well beyond Legionnaire age, but we weren't always.

What do you folks think? How do you feel about the Legionnaires aging at a somewhat-normal pace for approximately 15 years - and then back to teenage years while we...didn't?

[Edited 'cause I didn't mean to quote HWW's big post]

You're right, TD, that many of us are in our 30's and beyond. I once did a thread on the DCMB polling ages of the regular posters. Of those who responded, the average age was 32. Quite a few were around my age (39), and only two were under 20.

I don't see it as a hetero or homosexual thing, either, but, nevertheless, that is a prevailing theme in current topics. Regardless of who started these topics, many LMB regulars have had plenty to say on them.

I grew up with the old Legion and watched them age, too. But I've accepted that this Legion is very different in many ways. Yet, it is still conceptually the same, and I guess that's why I'm still drawn to it.

Oh Danny, you know everyone is hitting on you. That's the way life is.

And I'm only 26. But the whole age of the Legion and finding them sexy thing is a bit of an awkward point really. I think if they were all definately around 16 or so then it could be creepy (like grown men or women lusting after Tim Drake or Impulse.) but certainly at the moment they seem to be at least in their late teens (some a little younger, some a little older). Tinya and Jo one must assume are at least 18 (since I can't see DC letting anyone under 18 have a child even if it is just fiction) and Mon-el and Timderwolf certainly seem a lot older than most of the other Legionnaires. I think at the start of the re-boot Lyle was said to be the youngest (15 I think, with Ayla and Garth being 16). Assuming at least three years have gone by now since then most of the Legionnaires who joined early on should at least be 18 or so. Some of the later joiners could be younger but I would think the age of most of them is going to be around 19 or 20 at least. I guess the problem is different artists draw them to look different ages. Coipel tended to make them look early twenties, as does the current team, but when you look at Moy's depictions they look much younger.

Well, I'm straight AND a dirty old man! Seriously, I agree with TD. Though I might ogle attractive teen-aged girls, their immaturity would soon turn me off. When I started buying LSH on a semi-regular basis (as regular as I could afford), I was 15, a good age for a Legionnaire. I took a 10 year gap from comics and returned in the middle of the Legion's 5 year gap and was pleasantly surprised to find that they were as old as I was. Their de-aging is one of the many things I didn't like about the reboot.

Dude, that's just wrong. I'll have to remember - I have just 12 years to take my daughter to Canada. After that, forget it!

Being a high school teacher in my early 30's, it is easy to see how NOT to confuse these legionnaires with real teens. I don't know why the legion has to distinguish themselves as teenagers anyway. Isn't it enough to know they're young and leave the exact age vague?

I was one of those legion fans who came aboard at about 14 and grew up with them right along until the reboot "devolved" them. I think DC missed a great opportunity to continue a legacy into their adult years. After all, the X-Men didn't have to revert to youngsters after all the years they've been around.

Still, I'm a legion fan to the end. Who knows, maybe I'll see a more grown up legion by the time I hit my retirement years.

No, instead of doing anything wholesale, Marvel just Ultimizes. In the case of de-aging the X-Men, look no further than CN's X-Men: Evolution --What the FUCK?! Teens? In high school?! And Scott's younger than Storm and Jean, and a student while they're instructors?! Oy... [yuh huh]

And Labbie-- You're proud you can bang a fourteen year old?? What are you, between 11 and 18? Any older than that, and I've gotta wonder about you, dude... I'm all for legalizing for medical reasons, but that's all we need is stoner/cradle-robbers for our Northern neighbors! There goes the neighborhood... [wink]

I like Evolution quite a bit. True, it doesn't quite match up with the books, but I think it works well. And it holds true to the original X-men concepts: learning to use the gifts you're given, and figuring out where you fit into the world.

I like that the Brotherhood are their rivals, but aren't exactly their enemies.

And by the by, Scott and Jean are the same age (17?). It's Storm and Wolvie that are older.

Yeah, I knew I might be off on Jean's age. I don't DISlike Evolution... I'm just a little miffed that Scott's a lowly student, while Wolvie and Storm are his instructors....

first off, how old are you? cause i dont know if youve been to your local bar but in many bars across the world there are underage girls from the age of 14 to 17. I am not saying its ok to go screw a 14 yr old, but obviously you havent seen some of the 14 yr olds walking around. Again its the law here, that doesnt mean i go out looking for 14 yr olds to bang cause frankly they wouldnt be interested. 16 is the drinking age in france, dont know the age of consent but i bet its 14. As for There goes the neighborhood, i was hoping you would say something like that. Well i'm afraid that 5 states have decriminalized marijuana, one them being Alaska and we just decriminalized it 2 weeks ago, yours have been there for YEARS! so put that in your pipe and smoke it. Not that i condone pot use. [wink]
Now you should probably go look up the definition of DECRIMINALIZED, cause it aint what ya think it is, DUDE!! :)

I completely agree, TD. Evolution is the only cartoon I watch on Saturday mornings. I think it's very well written, and I love the animation. While not your "typical" X-Men, I think it brings the concept back to basics with a nice twist.

I was bummed to hear that next season there's only going to be a handful of episodes [sad]

I'm bummed because I haven't seen it in a year! But I think at least one season is out on DVD (which probably means that others will be too) and is also on Cartoon Net (?) so I'll be able to get to them eventually.

Oh, I don't have a problem with just talkin' the X-Men show, I was just commenting on one of Gob's problems with giving us our own place; mainly, that we'd become insular in our cozy little nest here, and not play nicely with the other freaks... [wink] [biiiig grin] I'm not saying we should drop a topic that moves into non-Legion territory and relaunch it elsewhere, but maybe a link? (Though I think Gob would prefer posting on the related boards vs. linking-- but I digress.)

I'm slightly bummed at the de-aging, and it seems VERY strange that Logan, on at least one occasion, gave orders to Scott, but I DO like the show. At least they didn't turn Ororo into a snake. [wink]

I don't think His Gobness would have any problems with the occasional non-Legion thread on this board, as long as we also shoot off our virtual mouths in the regular boards too (preferably with non-Legion topics just so the locals won't want to strangle us).

Maybe our moderators could organize a bus-tour to the other boards. We could all go there together, buy their tacky souvenirs, eat at their over-priced restaurants and take lots of pictures. And on the way home, we could sing all those great bus trip songs, like Hundred Bottles of Beer.

Well, road trips to other boards used to be a mainstay of the LMBP. We picked up some of our most infamous members that way *cough*Bevis*cough* [wink]
