Thanks, Euro. Just doing a little fleshing out of Dirk. But don't get you're hopes up. These are just little glimpses into his past and why he joined up with the MBL. The rest will come later on, as the character evolves.

Okay, Mxy. Tis' done.
Sure, it was a bit short and sweet, but, Smith (in my eyes) is "evil" incarnate.
Turkish is a tough bastard. But, against that? Heh....

Thanks Euro. :)
Mxy wanted a Stringfellow vs. Smith bout.
So, I gave him one that was logical.
Stringfellow is powerful in his own way.
But, he's not unbeatable.
Besides, I had more fun getting to "know" the Smith character.
I mean, what is "evil"?

Yeah. By the way, I have written the Auriochs "dream" sequence especially for you, Pro. That's how Aurochs is: a true wimp, alsways shaking like a leaf. But pretty powerful, when he can't hide or run away.

Kind of reminds me of that turbin-wearing wizard in the HARRY POTTER movie (which I'm sorry I bothered to watch).

It was not so bad, after all. Surely a better movie adaptation that the Lord of the Rings.

I dunno. I thought the Fellowship of the Ring was adapted rather nicely, although the passing of time being barely referenced was a bit jarring. In the novel (and in the film, only not shown), Bilbo had his farewell feast and left the Shire a full SEVENTEEN YEARS before Frodo set out on his journey. In the film it looks like it happened just a couple of months later or so.
The adaptation of the film definitely works better if you KNOW the books farely well than if you've never read them at all. My friends and I who've read the books happened to enjoy the film quite a bit more than those who hadn't. Those who hadn't read the books were confused by the ending, which was not really an ending considering the fact that there's still 2/3rds of the story left. They never thought that it would be so open-ended.
Having only quickly read the first Harry Potter book on the same day that I saw the film adaptation for it, it's hard for me to say whether or not they adapted it better than the first Lord of the Rings novel was adapted. In any case, the Lord of the Rings film was far superior to the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone film, in my opinion.

Euro, all i have to say it, "You cannot pass!"
The movie rocked. I thought it held the essence of the book while doing all the things that is necessary to the story to make it fit the film medium. You gotta remember that books and film use different devices to obtain the same reaction or meaning.
Pro, loved the post. Now how did you ever come up with that Alice reference? You need to PM me or Grimm about having drinks at a CERTAIN resturant on Wed. for shits and giggles.
Now, I must find where Dirk fits into all this. [ 08-01-2002, 10:59 PM: Message edited by: thedoctor ]

Pro: Thanks! It was awesome!
I was planning to post about Smit today (making him reveal his origin, among other things), but I don't have time... So I just posted the Mxy/Ktl part of my post, and I'll try to finish the rest tomorrow. So, please don't move Smith... I got him just where I need him.

Harry Potter joined the JLA in "Rock of Ages"?!
At any rate, I just saw Harry Potter last week (and saw Fellowship twice in theaters) and must say that, as a film, Fellowship was much better. Of course, I haven't read either book, but, as I understand from my good friend at school, the LotR adaptation was almost perfect, save the exclusion of Tom Bombadill, giving Aragon a full sword (as opposed to the broken sword of Isolder), and the inclusion of Arwin for the sake of having a love interest.
Of course, I've not run into anyone who's read Harry Potter and the SORCEROR'S Stone, but if I do, I'll be sure to ask them about the print-to-screen adaptation... ![[wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)

Yeah, the LOTR movie was better than HP, that is a movie for children, after all.
But as a movie adaptation, I think it worked better.
LOTR, for me (FOR ME), although it only failed in the little thing mentioned by Chewy, that I agree in an adaptation could be gone without harming the story, it laked in atmosphere.
I mean, it looked plasticky.
The County looked like Teletubbies land, instead of moorland they travel always among luscious forests, and Lorien is a straight copy of the Ewoks planet.
I know that is not important for many of you, but for me that stealed what intrigued me most reading the book(s).

Uhh... heh... sorry to pull the rug out from you while you're in mockery-mode, Chewy, but the title of the novel and the film adaptation is indeed "Harry Potter and the PHILOSOPHER'S Stone."
Only in America did they feel they had to "dum it down" a bit for those who had never heard of the Philosopher's Stone (for that is what is was) by calling it the "Sorceror's Stone"...
