I'd die for my country. I would also die to protect my nephews.
I also think its depressing to think too much about this kind of thing.

Nope.
Saying you would die for your country is an unconditional statement.
I would fight in a war if I was fighting for ideals or a cause I believed in. Theoretically that would also mean I would fight against my own country in an act of treason if I believed that was the right thing to do. However I don't ever see that happening.

i'd hope that i would be willing to die to save a great number of lives. i'm not so sure i'd be willing to give my life to save the life of ONE perfect stranger, though.
as far as friends, i only have one real friend i'd even consider giving my life for, and of that i'm not even so sure.
