Hey, we got off topic back on that other thread. Thought I'd start up a new one.

Basically, I wanted an answer on my question -- are you willing to chalk up all the screwy and disturbingly convenient elements of 911 as total coincidence?

All right, Britney -- or, if we aren't on a first-name basis, I could call you "Mister Shorts" -- let's try a little experiment here. 'Cause I don't think you're doing your own side much good.

Can you describe the argument so far? What I mean is, can you explain what I think, and what Dave thinks, or even what you think?

Or are you basically just good for quick posts that demonstrate the reading level of your side of the argument?

Yes, I'm making fun of you ... but hitting me back is easy. Prove me wrong. Demonstrate that you actually understand what we're talking about, without using quotes. Explain, in your own words, at least two sides of the argument.

If you can't do that, and if we get (as I suspect we will) just another Britney-style post, I think it goes a long way toward demonstrating exactly how the sort of conspiracy I'm talking about could happen. How hard can it be to trick someone when they don't understand both sides of the argument?

(Actually, this is win-win for me -- either I get to prove my point, or it turns out that we Americans aren't quite as dumb as I sometimes fear we are. I'll take either one as a victory.)

Zod is curious! What makes you believe your sources aren't corupt and don't have their own agenda? Why these conspiracies could easily be made up to serve their causes and you are nothing but a pawn to them serving them to complete their own cause of anti-capitalism, anti-government, anti-truth, and misinformation. They know there are people who don't want to accept the truth and want to retreat and feel safer with their conspiracies of a greedy government willing to kill their own to make a few business deals, why that does sound so much safer and secure than to know that a group of global terrorist wanting to kill you and ruin your way of life and security, who could be your neighbor, your coworker, and even your little dog or cat. Your conspiracies are much safer to believe because the government's brain is in one place, as it has been for over 200 years and that is why you believe, not because it's true, because it's your only grasp at sanity in this world.

As for Zod, you raise a good point. Yes, there are plenty of completely whacky and fucked up left-wing sources out there. If, however, you read the thread I'm referring to, you'll note that I never use those sources.

Britney mentioned something about the Onion once, but the fact is I don't read the Onion. I mostly just watch CNN. And just from what you can find on CNN, if you really pay attention and have an attention span of longer than one month, you can pretty much figure it out.

The House of Representatives, for example. And Haliburton's own website. These are the sources I cite.

It's because of the concern you mention about the left-wing agenda, and our own brand of intellectual dishonesty, that I've been really careful about it. I share that concern. I police myself for it quite vigorously. And in truth, much of the reason I value talking to people live Dave is because they can help me with that policing in ways I might not be able to do myself. I might have a prejudice right in the middle of my back where I can't scratch. I will cop to inflexibility.

I am confident, however, that an objective perusal of the facts in this case will make it quite clear that the Shrubs bites hard monster donkey knobs.

What you've won is a moment or two longer with a herd that doesn't exist. You've reinforced -- but only in your own mind -- a reality that isn't there. You think you can trust the Shrub to lead you blindfolded along the gangplank, but the truth is that he's getting paid by the people that made the blindfold and put the sharks in the water. You're nuts.

"I win!" Dude, all you're doing is proving my point for me. The same knee-jerk (love that term) reaction to fall into the goose-stepping line is what a lot of people are feeling, it's what they've been conditioned to feel, and it's why history is full of assholes like the Shrub getting away with the shit they pull.

I guess your responding argument would be that its cheaper for the oil companies to send the US armed forces to the region, than expend their own money - let the taxpayer fork out the cash. In which case I argue that what if it had gone ugly (which is what most commentators - includeing me - were predicting - a quagmire, as it was for the Soviets. The bake 'n' shake solution to Afghanistan surprised the crap out of everyone). Bushie would have lost a war, been discredited, and those damn Dems would have got back into power. Hardly worth the cost of a pipeline.
