thinking back... what is the FIRST thing you can remember? your EARLIEST memory?

then, what do you think is the significance of that memory -- why is it you remember that, over (and before) everything else?

Oddly enough, I remember when I was about a year old, my cousin moving in with us at my parents house. My aunt had died several years before I was born, and she and her sister had lived with my uncle, but with five girls living in a 3 bedroom house, something had to give, so she moved in with us. I remember being in my parent's kitchen (two remodelings ago) and seeing her walk in the house. I don't know what signifigance that is, but it's still my earliest recollection. I hardly remember anything of the next four years that she lived with us (and practically raised me while my mom worked) but I still recall that vividly. How strange...

I was about 3 - 4 years pld. Sitting in the hallway cleaning out my toy "closet" , and reading a Spider-Man Comic.

Yeah, I read early, and the whole thing cemented my love of comics. Spider-Man was the best...cause he was on The Electric Co.

"you're four"

"no, I'm this old" (shows four fingers)

"yeah, you're four"

"no! I'm this old!" (shows four fingers)

"four"

"NO! THIS OLD!" (shows four fingers)

"yeah."

"yeah!"

"four."

"NO! MOOOOOOOOOOOOM! HE'S SAYING I'M FOUR!"

"You are four, honey"

When I was three, I remember lying in the bed, half out of it, on my back, feet hanging off the side, with my mother on one side and my grandmother on the other literally dressing me to go to Head Start. I was so damn spoiled, they would let me sleep and when the bus came and they shook me awake--I was dressed. Hell, they even combed my hair this way!
