Another point that I'll clear up that I notice Euro got confused on is that Adem doesn't really communicate with machines and technolgy.
Yes, I got confused from that post in which he interfaced with the vanguard computer. I though he could do that with the T5 robot, but I understand that one thing is operating a computer to which you have total access, the other is to access the cybernetic parts of a 300 hundred meters alien robot.

Hi. Just dropped by to say a quick hello. I did indeed give permission for my character to be written out for a while, and I have every intention of returning at some point. You guys did a great job with the character in my absence. I've got some personal stuff to sort through, and when I've got my life back together, I'll definately be back to posting.

Yeah -- what 'e said. And whether or not you ever find a chance to get back into writing, it would be good just to drop by this forum to let us know you're still alive once in a while. You may not be an active writer at the moment, but you will always be considered a friend.

By the way, whoever is posting in the Christmas story, Phil isn't there. He's buggered off somewhere, just like old times. If you want, you can have someone ask about him, but please don't move this thing too far ahead - I wanna do a few things if possible. This is, after all, a 'hangin' out story', and I plan on doing some character work.

Opps. I'll fix it in the morning when I am awake. Now if you excuse me, I've got a rabbit with a sugar high chewing on some furniture. Goodnight all.

Some good news for the HHQ!!!
1) Those stupid 'star'-ratings are gone (I think -- they don't currently show up, anyway).
2) Special topics can now be kept at the top ('sticky'), and I've just put the Christmas Special, JLR War, the HHQ FAQ, and A Pro-posal at the top of the forum.
3) We've got our other mods back! Grimm, Eurostar, Britannica, and Wednesday. Along with me and Cowgirl Jack, I think this lineup should work. One tip, though: "Make thread sticky" is right next to "Delete thread," so be VERY careful!
Everyone make sure to thank Rob for his work on the boards.

Excellent conclusion, Mxy. With Larry and Mick now (apparently) gone from the group, it's good to know we can still see their kinds of hijinks with Ozzy and Adem.

Mxy, cool post, as usual.
I need to know a thing, before I reintroduce Euro when the story gets to the 25th morning: is KVelo still with the team, or he will leave (has left) during the Wedding special?

Mxy: Damn good ending! Loved your use of Adem and Ozzy (I'm going to miss Mick and Larry....hope I gave them at least a memorable dialogued last-hurrah in fourteen). Also, loved the Grimm/Shirley scenes. Nice pick-up from my Grimm/Turkish dialogue. I look forward to seeing what happens from here on out.
So, I've got to ask everyone: About The Order.
I've noticed that, whenever I post something about The Order, there's not a peep, for or against. And, even when Grimm posts something in Haven, which I believe is truly witty, and generally enjoyable for everyone....not a word.
Is there a dislike of the concept/team that I'm not aware of? Or, is it like anything else anyone creates, and people just accept what they see as not having anything to do with them, and move on to their own stuff?
I'm just curious, really. I'm not fishing for compliments or criticisms. Sincerely. I'm just curious as to the attitude to this group that is connected to the HR universe. My ultimate plan was to build up that section of the universe, set some standards for their stories, and then allow anyone who wishes to create an agent for The Order, to use as they please. I guess what I'm hoping for, in that, is that everyone will see Haven as their personal "holodeck"; a place in the writings where anything...ANYthing....can happen. Thus, giving everyone the ability to play with their characters however they wish, and it having no lasting impact on the main continuity.
I realize that, at the moment, Grimm is the only person besides myself that has access to that section of our universe. But, I was hoping, one day, to open the doors wide. But, if there is no interest in it, as a concept, or writing platform, I will simply pull the connections away, and just remove them solely to my own stories. Then, there will be no mention of The Order in the main HR universe continuity.
So, opinions? Comments? Ideas? Venom-filled diatribes and rants?

I dunno, Pro. Because it is closed-off for the rest of us, it's not really a group story and thus won't interest me as much as something I can actually participate in. I have the same problem with the B-Team and the EPS (even though, for a brief time my Cal Nachtman character was a "member").
Also, what's the difference between taking up a lot of time in the story with characters from The Order and taking up a lot of time in the story with supporting staff from Vanguard? You soundly criticized me for doing the latter in the last story, yet when something similar is done with the Order it's no biggie. I don't get that at all. Can you try and see it from my perspective?

I'm sorry. I was under the understanding, as everyone was, that this story was the last time we would do this type of stuff within a main story. I mean, isn't this the purpose of the X-Mas story itself?
And, at no time did I ever claim, in any form, that I was innocent of the type of things I am proposing to eliminate. Once again, if you re-read the proposal, I use my own characters and ideas as most of my examples. So, this type of accusation is baseless. If I were to do it in future stories, then, I would be just as guilty as anyone else.
This proposal has really gotten under your skin, hasn't it? Why, I wonder?

Mxy created the C-Men, actually, but we came up with an idea to bring it back together, yeah. I mean, we need an outlet for semen and transvestite jokes somewhere, right? Am I right?

Ahh... okay. I wish you'd said that earlier, because I've already taken Axel Magus out of the story to comply with the proposed "guidelines", though apparently I didn't have to. No biggie, though -- I'll put him back in.

That question(s) is akin to asking someone, "Which newspaper do you wish to purchase today, sir -- the Sun or the Times?" or even "Why do you want to kill the President?" Anything the other person says, no matter what, just confirms the opinion of the person asking the question.
Honestly, though, I calls 'em as I sees 'em. If I don't ask the hard questions, more misunderstandings will arise in the long run, right? Don't take it as an "accusation," though -- my questioning is for clarification's sake only.

Pro, about the order:
I had great expectations after you put that post(s) about Turkish, Friday and Z in issue 0 and that short solo at the starting of the HR Universe. At that time, the Universe was shaping up like something very sci fi, hidden agends, secret societies and invading alien. A cross of X files and Twin Peaks, so to speak, mostly thaks to the stuff Chewy, Gooz and myself were putting out. I though the Order was something along those lines.
Then, when you put Turkish in the group, I began toi loose my expectation. He was an omnipotent guy, able to ask nature anything (I know you disagree on this, but, let's face it, you know his weakness, me not). And when Legends came, I found that there was a lot of Turkish types. Each of them very cool, each of them, though, very powerful. The kind of powerful that has me saying, why they live in their secluded paradise instead of coming on Earth and solve the problems of humankind?
I know the answer, they let humankind solve their problems by their own, and whatch their back only from cosmic menaces.
But that means that any story with them has to be cosmic, and cosmic storyes, FOR ME, are good just once in awhile, like issue 14. Noiw we need a lot of down to Earth stories.
My vision, is that powerful allies like the Orders, in a sense, detract the role of Vanguard. The EPS, the Pantheon, the Strikeforce, are mixed bag, they can be ally and opponents, the Order, as it is now, would be always "good guys".
Probably the only story I would be interested to tell with the Order is when they step out of their track, and vanguard has to stop them.

Okay. I can understand that. And, I see alot of your points. However, and perhaps it was poor execution on my part, but, I kind of wrote agents like Lady Greystoke and Friday as somewhat "middle-weight" fighters; tough enough to hang on their own, but, beatable given the amount of firepower (i.e. Greystoke having to escape from the Vanguardians near the beginning of H&L, Friday incapacitating Tobias right off, knowing that he was too powerful to let free, etc.) I did this with you in mind when I created them, as I knew that you found Turkish too powerful.
As for avatars (and again, I stress, there is a difference between "Agents" and "Avatars"), I tried writing Rowena and Graham with more passive abilities (Graham's limitation while in Haven, Rowena always being protected by 'Death', etc., etc.). Cross is clinically insane, and easily beatable. Z? Z is just transport, really. Yeah, I've shown her using her abilities offensively at times. But, I've also tried to show the fatigue that follows.
And, well, the Avatar of Death (whether Wun or Grimm) is exactly that: Death. They, in my mind, are the most powerful of all the avatars.
As for Turkish, I guess it kind of saddens me that no one has ever actually "gotten him" yet (save Grimm and Doc, but, I've spent countless hours boring their socks off with details, so there). But, I also understand that it is probably my own fault. I've always felt that Turkish is only as powerful as Lei-Mu Bai (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) or, a Jedi Knight. And, I thought that the limits are understood. I mean, Smith beat his ass....twice. But, I guess I simply don't have the ability to communicate that in the writings.

You know, I had never had any intention of "detracting" from the Vanguard universe. Seriously. I really thought I was just adding something unique to it. I guess when I first started thinking about working them into this universe, I saw a lack of power on certain levels. Save the character of Mxy, there was just no logical way Vanguard (the MBL at the time) could have given any protection whatsoever from "cosmic threats". Still can't. I couldn't conceive of how they could protect the Earth with so many "hand-to-hand-ers" (my term for all the 'gunsmiths' and down-to-earth types, as in Dirk Bell, Phil Smith, Raptor, Kristogar Velo, Kristofer Chance, Danny Hearn, etc., etc.) Thus, I thought The Order would actually help broaden this new universe. I mean, is it any different than "Continuity" in the TOMBLverse?
Maybe it is. Either way, my bad.
However, I disagree with using the Pantheon as an example. Those guys are just as powerful, if not more powerful than The Order. The Order serve gods. The Pantheon are gods.
And, I mean, Mxy has always been a member/ally of the good guys. Is this any different?
Maybe it is. If so, my bad.
Quote:

Heh. I'll try not to take that personally....
But, in all logic, the only way Vanguard could ever even hope to take The Order down, is to stock up on a whole lot of Grimm, Mxy, Tobias, Ameristar, and Sam. Otherwise, the obvious reasons for creating The Order come into play, and Vanguard wouldn't have a shot.
No. I take that back. With sufficient planning, and, logically-crafted imagination from the writers, Vanguard could take them down.
But, really, it's all a moot point. Comforming to this new guideline means that The Order will be in solo threads from now on, and those who do not wish to read them won't have to. And, in the end, I'll probably just move them out of the universe. That way, I won't be detracting from Vanguard.
As always, I appreciate your input Euro. I can always count on you speaking your mind. And, I thank you for it.

I think the "Hero Revolution Universe" is big enough for several groups, though I don't think they each have to interact with each other very much, whether they be Vanguard, EPS, Order, Pantheon, etc.
Chewy's "Fringe Comics" thing is working on something that doesn't have anything to do with Vanguard at all, yet takes place in the same world. I think that's a great idea -- I'm thinking of doing some stories like that myself.

OK, time for my take on the team I will create in my future's past. The Order. Personally, until Grimm's current post in the X-Mas thread, I had a big question mark over my head on how to write them. They have always been God-like, but not. They seem larger than life, but looking at what they do in their spare time and how they interact with each other is where the money is, at least for me. We could have a hundred huge cosmic battles and I would be in awe with the writing, but in the end I wouldn't get much out of them. But right when you step back and write them as they are I have been greatly enjoying them. Even when Turk first joined the team, his intractions with the actual team members (singing with mick and larry, with grimm busting rocks) interested me a lot more than when he was parting the sea for moses. Don't pull them out of the universe, that would totally suck. In fact, I would love if you began a threat for "Friends" and sit-com like stories with the characters (where they go off and save the world "off screen").

Gooz, for references sake: (Personality comparisons) -Turkish = J'onn J'onnz (everything from the JLI to Morrison's stuff...he can be used funny or serious) and Billy Zane -Z = A cross between Jubilee from X-MEN, Ace from DOCTOR WHO, and that chick from THE SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS -Friday = Hugh Jackman playing Jack Hawksmoore from the AUTHORITY -Graham Wells = Think Roddy McDowell as H.G. Wells -Greystoke = Cross between Jakita Wagner from PLANETARY and Emma Frost from Morrison's X-MEN -Cross = Joker1 without the body paint, or cackling laughter -Rowena = Every really cool hippy-chick you've ever met, with a dash of Malvana thrown in for good measure -Grimm = Grimm -Scion = Anthoney Hopkins meets Ben Kingsley -Amelie' Pendragon = Hippolytia (the only true WONDER WOMAN) These characters, given the right mix of wit and slapstick, can be had fun with. As Grimm so expertly pointed out. And, whether they stay linked to the HR universe, or not, I'll still be writing solo stuff with them. TTT: Yeah, I actually thought about moving them over to the FRINGE Comics arena (with Chewy's permission, of course). Still might. Never know. Again, I appreciate everyone's input ************ Doc: I took your lead with Adem and Ozzy, and moved them apart, as I assumed you wished given your last post between them.

However, I disagree with using the Pantheon as an example. Those guys are just as powerful, if not more powerful than The Order. The Order serve gods. The Pantheon are gods.
Technically the Pantheon would be considered demigods, as the majority of their members are actually humans, or were originally. Medea's a human sorceress, Echo's a human, although with a powerful ability. Pandora, Castor, Pollux, all human as well. Aelous I believe, is the only one that was actually a deity of some sort. They're as beatable as any other group. All you have to do is look at the mix of characters and abilities and find a logical way to defeat them. Same for the Order. Same for the EPS. Same for Vanguard. A logical, thought out, well written battle with any of these characters could go either way. It's all up to who's writing the battle and the demands of the story.
Oh, and I think Pro meant Malcolm Mcdowell as H. G. Wells.

No, I meant Roddy. As in Time and Again[i/] (?) (old movie....late-seventies, early eighties...he played a time traveling H.G. Wells...fought Jack the Ripper).
I don't know. Maybe it was Malcolm. But, I'm pretty sure that it was Roddy...

Honestly, you've spent countless hours just boring us.
I don't remember you spending too much time talking Turkish with us. At least not before I understood his weaknesses. I think I got those right off, but maybe that was because we were face to face. I also greatly understood the Jedi Knight/Chow Yun Fat concept straight away. Maybe it was also just me thinking about it as Turkish being the Doctor Doolittle of nature with nature having its own personality and not needing to answer Turk's demands.

Actually, I intended the exact opposite. I like what Mxy did in his epilogue and wanted to keep that dynamic. I just had to think of a logical way to do it as that I've shown Adem to be very quick to figure out simple things but have problems with culture and so forth. The joke wouldn't have had much life like that. I also wanted to show that Adem does have a sense of humor and can be somewhat playful.

I didn't realize the possibilities for limitations inherent in the characters until I had you define for me what an avatar was in the "H&L Talk Thread". After that, the possibilities were not only endless, but really neat to think up.

I remember asking you about this when you first introduced the character. Having a character whose power/ability was "faith" was an intruiguing concept to me, and still is. I thought I was beginning to get a handle on the character just as you wrote him out, leaving me no way to find out for sure or not whether I was on the right track. All the same, I would've greatly looked forward to seeing how Turkish fared against foes like Tripps and the Jabberwock (from the EPS P.I.T.). I think either of those fights would've been pretty cool...

And, in the end, I'll probably just move them out of the universe. That way, I won't be detracting from Vanguard.
To be honest, I've never seen the Order as detracting from Vanguard at all. I've seen them as fun side characters to be used whenever necessary. At first I was reluctant to have such close ties with them (i.e. - Grimm being a member of both the Order and Vanguard), but having seen how it's played out so far, I really see no problem. I think Grimm the character realizes that Vanguard is capable to handle things on their own without outside assistance all the time. He's more than willing to prove that his team can get it done without having to call in 'the big brother' or whatever you wanna call it.
Comparing the two teams is like comparing the Outsiders with the Linear Men. Two completely different areas of expertise. That's my take anyway...

I'd be honored to have the Order, the Krononauts, or anything else you guys can think up over at FRINGE. I'll need to change some of the settings to allow for other posters besides myself, but, seeing how slowly things are liable to go for a while, I might as well open it up to others who want to take advantage of it...

Close.
Echo is actually a mountain nymph, making her the daughter (I think) of one of the gods, though I'm not sure which one.
Aeolus was a demigod, son of Poseidon, who was in control of the Four Winds. He meet Ulysses during the Odyssey and lent him a bag of wind to help him get home. Unfortunately, some of his crewmates got jealous and cut the bag open, reeling the ship off course. After that, Aeolus was pretty much unwilling to help again.
Morpheus is the god of dreams, son of Hypno, god of sleep. He's the only real deity on the team in their current incarnation.
Both the Cyclopes and the Gorgons were monsters. The Cyclopes served as Hephaestus' workers and helped him in the smithy, which is why Arges is the Pantheon's chief weapons maker/supplier.
Medea, Pandora, Castor, and Pollux, though, are all humans, though beefed up a bit to make 'em interesting (i.e. - Castor and Pollux being immortal and Medea being a sorceress... only Pandora is 100% human).
Still, they're logically beatable. Grimm, Grissom, and Mxy were able to beat Morpheus, Arges, Castor, and Pollux on the Malta mission. Like Pro and Grimm said, it takes forward, creative, 'outside-the-box' thinking...

I have to better explain my words.
About the Order "detracting" Vanguard, I wasn't intending they are a bad concept. They are very cool and I love them. What I intend is that if a cosmic menace arise, Grimm could always look in the mirror and call them. Without them, Vanguard should roll up their sleeves and find a way to get out by themselves. It's exactly the motivation for which you are asking to change thename of the series from HR to Vanguard, IMO. There is no need to remove them, because I hope cosmic battles will be not so common, and if we want to do one, we could write the Order out, or use them, as the mood dictates. But MY FEELING is that they lessen the broad purpose of Vanguard. You compare them to Continuity, but in fact Continuity, after it was created, basically went missing very soon. In any case, as issue 14 has shown, it's just how we write the characters that, in the ends, matter. The game has been won by Vanguard, and the Order gave just an hand to help.
About Turkish, you always compare him to the character from Hidden Tiger..., but as I remeber him, he was able to defy Nature, by walking over thin branches, running over vertical walls and such, and I would feel comfortable with such. It's when he "asks" nature to not allow something for others, or similar things, that I begin to find him "too powerful". Mxy is very powerful, but he is a very nice and ingenue guy, that usually creates cows. That's the strenght of the character. he is nearby omnipotent, but often is pretty useless.

Uh... scratch that last part out.
No. What do you mean?
I'm speculating that you're talking about the B-Team/C-Men post. I just felt like answering somethings in there that I think were misunderstood and that I just didn't feel like going through and explaining. Part of the problem was more than likely the fact that I didn't clearly state certain reasons for the B-Team in the talk thread, so I used the power of the narrative.
They were never meant to be shut off from other writers, just from new members. It's the simplicity of the dynamic that lets it work. More members would ruin that simplicity and make writing the B-Team as more of a task than fun, which is what they are supposed to be, FUN.
Otto would probably have worked well with the group, but not as well as the rest of the B-Team works together. Johnny and Luchadore are the heart of the group. Blackwulf and Huerta are characters easily moved out of the way or brought in when we need them, but Johnny and Luchadore are the ones that present the most fun and mayhem. Everyone else really just serve as a utility to them.
I wanted that post to show not just how the B-Team works, but also how the C-Men work in much the same way. There is a different chemistry between the characters there. I wanted to show both groups being funny in the same place at the same time yet not mixing together with each other. I, honestly, couldn't write a post with all of them interacting with everyone else. But I can write posts with each team interacting with their fellow teammates. The simplicity of both teams is what makes them both work, in my opinion.
