I guess it's about time to get rid of the [Hero]-type talk thread titles, since we've been using the Vanguard name for almost a year and seem willing to stick with it.
My last post with Mason Templar in the Christmas Special is about the only thing I can think of doing with him at this point. I probably won't use him again until we begin Vanguard #15, as he's not really the type to celebrate Christmas with a team who've all fought alongside each other even if they don't know everyone all that well. He's really a stranger, and I don't think I can show him interacting with the team in any genuine way until he's actually fought alongside them as a team member. That'll have to wait until next issue.
Otherwise, I'm personally looking forward to the story moving on to the New Year's Eve part. I might do something with Templar then.
Hey, I just had a thought -- what if Vanguard holds their New Year's Party at the old Fish Factory like they did last year, just for old times' sake? I kinda miss that smelly old factory temp-HQ.
Oh, and one more thing: If anyone wants to have their character(s) interact with Mason Templar, please feel free to do so, and if you do, make sure to give me an opening so I can follow it up. Right now I don't have any ideas on how he would begin interacting with the Vanguardians, even though he's met Drax, Tayden, and Priest (and made a bad impression on all of them), but I'd be interested in seeing how his irascible personality grates on... er... interacts with the other Vanguardians.

Yeah, I was just Drake to make fun of Packers fans. The Bears may suck, but at least no one cares.

Sammitch, Merlin just gave your Rosemblum the "Mindgame" codename. He doesn't seem to have a lot of creativity.

Jaysis. I thought I'd leave the dialogue posts that I'm sure will come to you guys. I'm just itching to get back into writing a huge fight scene.

I don't want to be the one to write how my character is accepted by others' characters - I want you guys to make your own judgments. Same probably goes for Danny. I want to get this characterization out of the way of my character so I can get my character out of the way of the story!

Well, personally, I want Danny as leader, Grimm as field/combat leader, and Phil as recon-operative. Other than that, I don't have much opinion on who's in charge on the team.
As for my character's acceptance of Phil.....Ozzy hasn't been with the team long enough to know, or, care who Phil is, and what he's done in the past. The connections between Baxter and Smith is defined by how I, or others, write them together. Other than that, what do you want us to do? Vote Phil off the team? This is a business, and, I'm pretty sure the only person Smith would have to be confessing to is Madame X....being she writes the checks, and all. I don't know. Am I missing the point?
As for my last post, it obviously takes place before Danny's, and, during the period of the entire day.
Oh, and to everyone, I apologize if I've been more of an ass than usual, lately...

I liked that post. My character was in it! Uh, seiously, it was nice seeing someone mention Drake's past before he got linked to Drax. I'm going to get back to that origin story, I swear.

Good stuff, Pro.
Phil is Dirk Bell now? Seriously, you're a fantastic character writer, but I generally didn't see Phil clashing too much with a lot of the other characters. You can of course reconcile that with the supposition that Phil was just giving Ozzy a hard time, which sounds very plausible. (Dirk Bell:Phil Smith: :Phil Smith:Ozzy Baxter) The way I usually see it, this team is all Phil has. To me, he's not likely to pick too many fights with his teammates. But I think you've introduced an interesting angle to all this characterization.
About the confession: Phil's doing this for his conscience. La Perdita has no extradition laws, and quite frankly I don't think too many people will care about what happened in New York as long as he's doing his job. I was just hoping to see how the other characters might feel about him now - whether in response to his past or in response to his keeping it hidden.

Adem is too new ( not just to the team, but the whole planet and culture) to really be able to offer an opinions on either Phil or Danny. So, don't wait for me to write his reply.

Well, the only thing I was doing was using Ozzy to be the general "consensus" view on such concepts as telepathy (i.e. simple, "psychic" tricks, and the like), as opposed to the real idea behind telepathy (i.e. being able to dredge up memories and emotions very personal to the being that experienced them).
And, I mean, honestly, did I convey this as some sort of "Dirk Bell"-type confrontation? I thought it was more of a "Ozzy is annoying Phil" kind of situation.
*Sigh*. Oh well. I enjoyed writing it, nonetheless.

I'd like to have Mason Templar interact with the characters some more, but so far it seems no one's been comfortable enough to write him in any of their posts. That's fine, as I can understand that since it's a new character, though I think I've spelled out his personality fairly clearly by now, and even given him some emotions I never even knew he had in my last post.
But I would like to do some kind of interactions with the team members -- after all, this is what the current story is about, right? Seeing how the new team dynamic works before going off into the next story. So if anyone wants to see how their character might interact with Mason Templar, let me know. As I said at the beginning of this thread, I don't see him "palling around" with the other Vanguardians since he's the newest member and very much untried in that capacity (unlike the other new members who fought in the Naecken War), and he's also older than any of them, but I do want some interaction.
This is important. So... any takers?
(And thanks, Chewy, for suggesting Grissom -- I finally took you up on it.)
(And Pro: sorry about your cat. Thanks for your comment about Iota. I'm hoping you find Mason Templar interesting enough to write soon also... )

BTW, if anyone wants to use him in their post, Mason Templar has been forced out of Jake's Bar and is currently returning to the Complex.
But watch out! He's currently in a foul mood... (...at least right now -- he has very mercurial emotions that can change in a few moments from fierce anger to laughter -- and vice-versa...)

Well, guys, I was just talking to Sonhaven the other night. Seems as though not too long after he made that last post, he lost his internet connection. He doesn't know when he'll get it back and doesn't have time to use a friend's or the public library computers to check the boards. So we'll just have to be satisfied with Tayden being a more background character for now. Jackie, good post. But Adem did have a present for Brianna. I guess I'll just have to work it in down the road a bit. TTT, I think a lot of people have stayed away from Mason because we're kinda confused how to write him. He's acting a bit differently than when you first introduced him, but that's all about characters taking up a life of their own. Also, pulling him out from the rest of the group made it harder for us to allow for interaction. I'll give it a whirl when the mood hits me. I don't know how the new guys will react to Mason, but I'm sure the old guard won't have any problems with him. After all, they did put up with Dirk.

A Spanish Hawkman. Nice, Euro. Very good work in both stories, everyone. About the Strikeforce, I have something to say to you all. You guys have created some fascinating and interesting characters. You may be growing attached to them and making plans for them. So, in the interest of preventing another PSI-Unit type debacle, I would just like to remind you all of a few things already stated in the stories and talk threads regarding this: 1) Jack Merlin has stated one of his big goals is the capture of the evil MBL. 2) The Strikeforce characters were required to be mostly expendable from the start. They were asked to be created with this in mind. 3) There is a very distinct possibility they may not ever face Vanguard. There is also a chance they will. It all depends on when various things happen in the stories. There's no set timetable on this. Please don't ask me about the plot, as an answer would require spoiling it. So, if anyone does not want their Strikeforce character killed off later, please say so now, in order to prevent future difficulties. Thank you.

Grimm, I specifically created Ubermensch to be expendable, so do with him as you will. The only thing I wanna do with the character is an origin story, which might be a FRINGE one-shot. That is all.

Cap: Your use of Templar was fine. BTW, when I write Mason Templar, I kind of think of his personality as a cross between Professor Arturo (Sliders) and Gimli (LotR) -- both played by John Rhys-Davies, and with a healthy dose of Brian Blessed in almost ANY role he's been in (especially the original Black Adder series).
Doc: I have been writing Mason Templar's personality fairly consistently from the beginning, but the scene with him at Jake's was intended to show that he's not a two-dimensional character who never reflects on life and death. Living as long a life as he has, he's seen most of his friends die over the years. That's got to have some impact on him at Christmas.

It would be nice if Lykopis didn't die, but there's no reason we can creatively dispose of her after the Strikeforce bit. Just a thought.

Phil: You got Ozzy just fine. And, really, it's hard to get him wrong. He is everything you've read about him so far. He can be interpreted in many different situations, and styles. Fun. Serious. Comedic. As long as you leave him some redeeming values on some level, he can be any person you need him to be. And this is the kind of stuff I want to see from the writers here. This is a new ensemble of characters. I want to see them grow into working together, not just automatically be chummy, and know exactly how to cooperate. I mentioned to Grimm and Doc last week about, at some point, wanting to write a 'Field Exercise' post. I think, with this many new fighters, they would want to learn how to work together as a unit before going out into a real battle. Sure, some of the old guys will automatically know how to work off each other. But, even for them, getting used to what the new guys offer in a tactical situation will take practice. Just some thoughts. Euro: I am working on that Firestorm character. Soon. Danny: Your last post..... The wit, gentlemen.....the wit. Loved it. Doc: Am I getting closer with Adem? Or, is it still too off? CJ: Loving your stuff. Sorry I made Bri "drunk". Mxy: Missing you in this story. Waiting impatiently on the next part of the Wedding Special.... TTT: Fucking LOVE the avatar! Brian Blessed is a wonder to behold (and especially, to be heard). " WING-BOMBERS.....DIVE!!!" You ever catch him on Doctor Who? He was a warrior-king named Yrcanos. It was priceless, and pure Blessed. And, he bagged the female companion in the end. Although I'm still iffy on the whole non-technological-sword thing, I do think I will enjoy writing Mason. Gives me my Bell/Foreman-fix. How old is Mason, anyway? By the way, please don't read anything into what I want to do between Ozzy and Templar. I kind of see these two butting heads a bit. And, why not bring back the old 'Prometheus/Time Tryst' rivalry, eh? Chewy: You damn lurker! Write! Nothing says that you can't make a 'Grissom Montag'-appearance during these special seasons.... NotWedge: Glad you liked the Drax/Ozzy stuff. Thought it would be fun to reference your old 'vigilante' status. BTW, forgive me for my ignorance, but, what was Drake Marshall's code-name as a costumed vigilante? Or, did he go by 'Drake Marshall'? I guess I should just read your Origin solo, and stop asking so many damn questions.... Ozzy: What's with your fixation on Nuriko? Grimm: You have a face?! Dude, nice, nice use of Rowena. Flawless. Gooz: Where are you....? So, people, when's New Years?

He could be physically anywhere from 35 to 50, but he's not. Read the hints carefully.
As far as the non-technological thing, just remember that it's a VERY localized effect and generally affects techno-things out of his immediate vicinity only if they might harm him.

True. However, I just started auditions tonight on the play I'm directing this semester, so I'm gonna be getting a lot more sparse in the coming days. I'd started to write a post with Griss, but stopped when I realized that I had no idea what he was gonna get everyone for Christmas...

For most of the time it was "Nightwatch" (By the way, everyone needs to read Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. One of the best books ever. But I'm WAY offsubject now) Officially, nightwatch was the name of the team, but Drake was the only one the public ever saw so everyone just assumed it was his name.

So your saying Drake's chair is safe? I may come up with some excuse for it to get messed with though. i've already come up with a line I'm itching to use when Drake gets ticked off by it.

Third installment in the hero revolution team pictures, this time it's Vanguard International at its most large membership, around issue 12 (the Virus mission). This time I have chosen a more European style, to suit the international flavor. From left to right, upper row: Ameristar, Grissom, Vengance, Phil smith, Mxy, Drake, Grimm, Kristogar. Lower row: Dirk, Priest, TC, Danny, Euro, Chance, Banshee, Tayden. Next, the last picture, with the current incarnation. I will start it only when we'll have discovered Mxy's new character.

Sure, but those issue will see the light, probably, two years from now, at the usual rate of writing!
Issue 15 is taken by Gooz, but after it, nobody as claimed any issue, yet, as far as I know.

Eurostar said: Third installment in the hero revolution team pictures, this time it's Vanguard International at its most large membership, around issue 12 (the Virus mission).
That's fantastic, man. The best one yet!
Just, ah, one little thing: Grimm's not bald.

Just for one day.

Dude, nice, nice use of Rowena. Flawless.
So it came off right, then? That was the big thing I wanted to do this ish, and I wasn't sure how it came out.
I liked the thing with Ozzy and his hangover. Funny. Can't wait to see what comes out of this.
Sammitch: That's the kind of post we've been wanting to see out of you. Phil interacting with his teammates and not just being "UberPhil." Good job.
Chewy: Re: Ubermensch. Excellent. Re: Meredith Brooks. You're starting to worry me.
Jackie: Re: Lykopsis (sp?) Huh? Were you drunk when you posted that reply? Also: Re: #21. Ask Pro.
Notwedge: Good stuff. You've blended in very well considering the time you've been out.
Guys, are we still doing the leadership election on new year's, or is that a moot point now? I was going to write Grimm back for that, but if we're not doing it, I'm pretty much done this issue unless something else occurs to me. I'll be around, keeping up, but mainly I'm going to be working on my solo story and trying to finish it up. It's coming along slowly but nicely.
